Phew! What a work out that was for the old clicker fingers. We’re going to go and sit down for a bit.

Just before we do that, though, some acknowledgements. The words in this article were compiled by John Walker, Katharine Castle, Graham Smith, Alice Bell, Matt Cox, Nate Crowley and Matthew Castle.

In this 2020 update, we also gave this list its biggest revamp so far. In fact, we kicked out so many games that it would be easier to tell you what didn’t get chopped, and that was Hotline Miami and TowerFall: Ascension. Well done, old games.

The rest are all brand-new entries. There were still a couple of straight swaps – GTA IV was replaced by GTA V, Batman Arkham Asylum got booted out in favour of Arkham City, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey replaced Black Flag, and Resident Evil IV got reincarnated as Resident Evil 2 (funny how time works, isn’t it?). As for the rest, we felt that age had finally caught up with them, or at least that there were newer games we’d recommend first.

Here’s the complete list as it currently stands:

  • 1. Dead Cells
  • 2. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
  • 3. Bayonetta
  • 4. Batman: Arkham City
  • 5. Hotline Miami
  • 6. Devil May Cry 5
  • 7. Monster Hunter World
  • 8. Vanquish
  • 9. Resident Evil 2
  • 10. TowerFall: Ascension
  • 11. Hyper Light Drifter
  • 12. Nier Automata
  • 13. GTA V
  • 14. Hades
  • 15. Katana Zero
  • 16. Control
  • 17. Nuclear Throne
  • 18. Castlevania Lords of Shadow
  • 19. Rise of the Tomb Raider
  • 20. Red Dead Redemption 2
  • 21. Binary Domain
  • 22. Yakuza 0
  • 23. Ape Out
  • 24. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
  • 25. Max Payne 2

Hopping to the comments to start complaining about the list? As always, consider writing an impassioned celebration of the game you love that isn’t here – you might convince others to give it a go.
