Free hat game! Fez is free on Epic’s Store right now, with Celeste and Inside coming next week

You could put together a decent indie games showcase for nothing just by loading the Epic Games Store and clicking a button. The current freebie on there is Polytron's excellent, world bending puzzle-platformer, Fez. It's definitely worth the zero doubloons they’re asking for it. In fact, it’s worth at least 100,000,000 times that. Fez is great.

Epic Games Store exclusive Hades will hop on the Steam train this December

Supergiant Games launched Hades exclusively on the Epic Games Store at the end of 2018, becoming one of the OG combatants in the Great Store War that followed in 2019. Though we’ll never truly know why they set-up in a store that's paying games to be there, they’ve decided that a year is enough time to be away from Steam. Hades is coming to Early…

The buzz about town is that Minecraft just added bees

We no longer have bees in the real-world, the last one having left to fly to its home planet of HV-1 last Tuesday, so Minecraft has memorialised our buzzy buds by adding them as a new mob. The fuzzy little dancers are a neutral mob who’ll happily fill your game with honey for you to enjoy, and have just set up a hive in the…

If you have a spare hour, here’s a lot of Halo: Reach’s Firefight

It's good to feel excited about Halo again, isn't it? After all those years of Microsoft teasing us, saying stuff like: "The PC is an important platform for us and we are committed to a long and loving relationship with it," and then leaving us at the altar time and time again... well, it started to get a little bit old. But now we know…

Spend 30 minutes in the company of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2

Last night I met a guy, who knew a guy, who told me about a girl, who said she was penpals with some sort of rat thing, who wrote a URL down for her, all so I could get this footage of Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 to you. I was up all night, and it turned out all I needed to do was…

Steam China will be a curated, separate store for the Chinese market

Steam is in an odd position in China. It’s like a pirate radio station, sitting offshore and letting the gamers access all that unfiltered content. With no official servers and awkward payment methods, the experience that the huge numbers of users have isn’t optimal. So Valve and local partners Perfect World are setting up a version of Steam for China, named Steam Platform. The first…

What you do when you’re not chasing your destiny in Shenmue 3

A lot of Shenmue happens in the spaces between the game. I remember my time in Yu Suziki's sprawling RPGs not as some grand unveiling of my destiny, but as a dude collecting capsule toys, getting a job as a forklift driver, and hanging out at the arcade. I lived a rich little life playing it, though because of it I horribly failed my forklift…

SnowRunner squeals out of the Spintires garage next year

Spintires: MudRunner is a cludgy delight of a thing, somehow turning the nightmare of getting a vehicle snared in sodden dirt into a puzzle game. It did so well that we're here once again, this time with snow chains wrapped around the tires and a flask of warm tea on the passenger seat. SnowRunner is a bigger, wetter, and colder addition to the surprisingly successful…

Fallout 76’s first raid unlocks, welcoming you to a greenhouse of terror

The heavy doors of post-apocalyptic West Virginia are finally chu-chunking open, like rusty flowers waking up to the nuclear spring. Vault 94 has joined Fallout 76’s titular vault, opening itself to the oddball Appalachians and asking them to investigate what went wrong down there in the plant-choked bunker.

The Empire Of Sin trailer makes quite a racket

The mob, for all their terrible, terrible crimes, are the perfect set-up for a tactical game. They have a structure, guns, and are in continual conflict with just about everyone, including themselves. Off the top of my head, I can’t think of a game that’s done the organisation justice (that’s for the police to do, aha!) from a top-down level, but with Empire Of Sin…

Chill with Wasteland 3’s new, snow-caked trailer

It didn’t seem all that long ago that a new Wasteland game was nothing but a distant dream, but now we’re here at the third game in the series. InXile’s newest tactical RPG is set away from the dusty deserts of Arizona, and takes in you into the mountains, beckoned there by the Patriarch of Colorado. Here he is, being all portentous and grey, begging…

Synced: Off-Planet is Tencent’s new horde hoarding shooter

Synced: Off-Planet is the rather descriptive title of Tencent's new competitive shooter. You'll cower behind cover taking potshots at other players, but you'll also fight to control the destination of hordes of AI and bosses. It’s like being those schoolteachers you see in the streets, wearing high-vis jackets and fearfully trying to direct their pupils through traffic. There's some super shiny RTX footage hither.

See San Francisco fall as Marvel’s Avengers assembles some footage

Marvel’s Avengers is a rare-earth neodymium snark magnet. It’s based on the most recognisable heroes on Earth, but starring what looks like their stunt-doubles. Though it meant Nate got to do this, it’s also made everyone a bit wary of what’s coming down our game tubes. I imagine that Crystal Dynamics felt the best way to get ahead of that is let everyone take an…

Frog Detective 2: The Case of the Invisible Wizard is being funded by Superhot

Yes, that Superhot. The slow-mo bullet ballet has clearly done very well in the old sales department, and the developers have set-up a ‘SUPERHOT PRESENTS’ initiative that offers both mentoring and money to games they want to see being made. Frog Detective 2: The Case of the Invisible Wizard developer Grace Bruxner is being supported in what they’re calling the “crossover no one asked for”.

No Man’s Sky Beyond is a bit broken, but patching has already begun

I was hoping to try No Man’s Sky in VR, but my current holodeck isn’t quite ready. My entire house is crammed in there while we continue to unpack after a recent move, though it turns out this is a good thing because reading up on people’s PC experiences has made it clear I should wait a week or two before I climb into the…

Tactical spaceship sim Shortest Trip To Earth is out today

Brendy seems to have taken over my mantle as the RPS deep space explorer, which is fine. I’m definitely okay with that and not at all outside the bushes of his house right now, slowly planning to turn his abode into a vacuum. And while I’m definitely not there, I found out about Shortest Trip To Earth, a game that’s been around Early Access for…

Celtic FC have signed a Call Of Duty esports team

I’m going to open this story with the strangest disclaimer you’ll ever read on RPS: as a young man who grew up in the Glasgowy part of the country, I was a supporter of Glasgow Rangers. Generally, this wouldn’t be a problem, but when you’re dealing with the Old Firm, well, they like to know. In my own defence, I started back when Davie Cooper…
