Best XM4 loadout and class setup in Warzone

The best XM4 loadout for Warzone.

The XM4 is a bit of a classic in Warzone. A fully-automatic assault rifle much like the M4A1, this Cold War weapon will serve you reliably. It’s become a lot more popular recently because of its ease of use. Time-to-kill is decent, and you can deck it out in a variety of ways. With that said, here’s the best XM4 loadouts in Warzone.

How to unlock the XM4 in Warzone

The XM4 was added in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and is one of the earliest guns you unlock as you level up. The XM4 is unlocked at level 4. Honestly, it’ll only take a game or two.

Best XM4 loadout in Warzone

The XM4 has a middling time-to-kill in Warzone, slightly above the M4A1, and even faster than the M16 and AUG. At close ranges, you’ll struggle to beat out most SMGs and faster-killing ARs like the FFAR and the FARA 83, but it’s worth using with the right attachments.

Best mid/long-range XM4 loadout in Warzone

This is my favourite XM4 loadout in Warzone. It’s got great recoil properties and deals good damage at longer ranges, so you’d do well to give it a try for your next loadout. Get used to the mostly-vertical recoil and you’ll have a brilliant time picking off targets at longer ranges.

  • Muzzle: Agency Silencer (Level 46)
  • Barrel: 13.7” Extended (Level 30)
  • Optic: Royal & Kross 4x (Level 42)
  • Underbarrel: Field Agent Grip (Level 41)
  • Ammunition: STANAG 60 Rnd (Level 34)

You need the Agency Silencer on pretty much all of your guns. You can stay off the radar and increase your range values all in one fell swoop. Of course, there’s a slight mobility penalty but that’s nothing compared to how you’ll avoid lighting up on every enemy’s radar as you shoot.

Bullet velocity is extremely important, so the 13.7” Extended barrel does a great job here. Being able to hit enemies a long way off without having to lead your shots as much as you otherwise might is a delight, and this barrel works a treat.

I like the Royal & Kross 4x, so go with this as it looks lovely at range. Of course, feel free to grab your Axial Arms 3x if that’s a bit too zoomed-in for your liking, but you’ll want an optic if this is your long range weapon.

The Field Agent Grip is a great underbarrel choice, as it noticeably reduces recoil magnitude and makes it a whole lot easier to stay accurate at long ranges.

In a squad mode, use a 60 Round Mag to ensure you can fight entire teams without having to reload.

Best closer-range XM4 loadout in Warzone

This is a closer-up XM4 loadout with some switched attachments to make you do better without having this rifle as your main long-ranged threat. It’s best used with a sniper or other kind of ranged gun like an LMG, and then you can take fights that suit you better with the XM4. Here’s the attachments for this gun:

  • Muzzle: Agency Silencer (Level 46)
  • Barrel: 15.5” Reinforced Heavy (Level 21)
  • Rear Grip: Speed Tape (Level 9)
  • Underbarrel: Patrol Grip (Level 28)
  • Ammunition: STANAG 60 Rnd (Level 34)

Some of this loadout remains the same, namely the silencer and ammunition because they’re pretty much essential.

The 15.5” Reinforced Heavy barrel is a good option to help with your bullet velocity a decent bit, and while your mobility takes a slight hit, your range drop-off is extended meaning you’re going to have an easier time taking out foes at around 30 metres.

The Patrol Grip is a really good way to increase your movement speed, since when you’re trying to push or retreat you’ll want to have as much of a boost on this as possible. Of course, feel free to stick with the Field Agent Grip if the recoil control is more important to you.

Finally, get the Speed Tape out. It helps your recoil control (even though it doesn’t say so in-game), and allows you to stay on-target with the iron sights.

Remember, you can’t be out here rushing against MAC-10 wielding enemies at close range, regardless of how you kit out the XM4. You’ll get destroyed no matter what if you do that. Play smart though, and you’ll do very nicely with this gun.

Secondary weapon

With the longer-range build and Overkill, an SMG like the LC10 can be a decent addition, or even an FFAR if you enjoy using that at closer ranges. When you’re using the second loadout on this page, bring out a sniper like the HDR or SP-R 208, so you can still compete at longer ranges.

Of course, Ghost is the go-to loadout if you already have a secondary weapon. If you really need, use a Diamatti or launcher, but you’ll probably switch weapon anyway.

Best XM4 loadout with Perks and Equipment

The XM4’s Perks and Equipment can make a big difference when it comes to your success in Warzone. Here’s what to pick:

  • Perk 1: Double Time
  • Perk 2: Overkill/Ghost
  • Perk 3: Amped
  • Lethal: C4
  • Tactical: Heartbeat Sensor

Double Time allows you to sprint for longer and move faster while crouching, making it really strong when repositioning with your XM4 to take up advantageous spots. Overkill and Ghost are a no-brainer, bring out whichever one makes sense in the stage of the game you’re currently at. Finally, Amped lets you change weapons quickly and gives you a chance to take down enemies who surprise you with a flank.

Your equipment is another classic. C4 is fantastic for taking out vehicles, and the Heartbeat Sensor can come in extremely clutch and let you get the drop on an opponent if your XM4 might otherwise not do the job (such as at close range). If your teammate already has one though, Stun Grenades are always helpful as they stop foes from running away for long enough to take them down.
