Civ 6: It's A Marathon, Not A Sprint

I'm started a game of Civ 6 on the largest map size, on Marathon game length. That means it'll take about forty turns to train people to carry large sticks, and at least thirty turns to codify the laws of my civilization. That's forty turns during which we'll effectively be a barbarian tribe, without the Discipline civic that gives an advantage against actual barbarians. It's a harsh race, the Marathon.
