Dead Space walkthrough Chapter 2: Intensive Care

As you enter the Medical Cargo Depot, immediately turn left and grab the Kinesis Module. You can then use this to drag the nearby boxes out of your way. Move them so that you can pass through, and head up the slope towards the Medical Tram Station.

As you enter the Tram Station, an officer will die, dropping a Pulse Rifle. Pick up the new weapon and equip it, and then use the nearby blue terminal to unlock the Medical Tram Station as a fast travel point. After, head through the door that leads to the Security Station, using Kinesis to move any crates in your path.

How to find the Hydrazine Canister

Upon arriving, Hammond will call and briefly chat with Isaac. When they're done talking, use the nearby save station and then go through the door that leads to Imaging Diagnostics. In the following corridor, the lights will cut out, and you'll see someone bash their head into a wall before collapsing.

As you enter Imaging Diagnostics, move the large tube out of your way and kill the Necromorph on the other side. Then, look for a power core that you can move using Kinesis. Insert the core into the empty wall socket, and then use the circuit breaker to send power to the elevators.

Next to where you found the power core, you'll find the Diagnostic Technician room. Inside, you'll hear a man coughing briefly, before a Necromorph bursts through the wall. Kill the Necromorph, and then sweep the room to find a Power Node inside a container.

When using the circuit breaker, you can also divert power to the doors. Do this, and then follow the nearby blue cable back to the Consultation Room. You'll find an Audio Log inside.

After grabbing any items nearby, take the cargo lift near the circuit breaker up to the next floor. When you reach the top, some Necromorphs will attack. Kill them, and you'll find yourself on a walkway that has collapsed in the middle. Fortunately, you can cross this gap by using Kinesis to move a platform along to form a bridge. As you cross, kill the Necromorph in the nearby corridor.

After killing the Necromorph, head into the nearby Observation Room. Inside, you'll find a Text Log and some ammo.

Continue until you reach the therapy room, at which point you will enter a vacuum. When in a vacuum, you must keep track of your Oxygen meter. Your default Oxygen tank lasts around 70 seconds, but you can increase this by spending Power Nodes on your suit.

After the save point, you'll find a door that requires Security Level 2 in the next corridor. This is tied to story progress, so you'll need to backtrack for this much later, but note it's location.

Upon entering the vacuum, follow the corridors until you reach a door which will close behind you, sealing the vacuum. The next room is a large chamber of empty space with a door on the opposite side, which you can reach using your suit thrusters. As you head through the door, go over to the desk to pick up the Hydrazine Canister and complete your objective.

How to find the Shock Pad, and starting the Scientific Method side quest

Your next objective in the Dead Space remake is to find a Shock Pad, which involves a bit of backtracking. Turn around and head back into the large chamber, which is now populated with Necromorphs. Fly across, killing any that get in your way, and proceed back into the vacuum. An explosion has caused some of this passage to collapse, so you'll need to use your thrusters to fly up instead.

Head up and follow the passage along until you reach a door. Good news! This is where the vacuum ends! Bad news! There's a Necromorph ahead! Kill it and continue towards the elevator shaft, which you can descend using your thrusters to enter the Coolant Pipeline corridor.

As you enter the Coolant Pipeline, immediately turn left to find a Pulse Rounds Schematic. Take this to a store to unlock Pulse Rounds for purchase. Grab it, and then continue through the pipeline to quickly arrive back at the Security Station. Save there, and then head into the Research Wing, where you'll find your next objective.

As you enter, the lights will dim and Necromorphs will burst out of the walls. Clear the room, and then head over to the other side to find a cargo lift that leads down. Before activating the lift, check the nearby desks for some credits and a small med-pack.

When the cargo lift stops, you'll need to clear the lower level of Necromorphs. Once that's done, the quarantine will lift, unlocking a bunch of doors on the lower level. To reach the main objective, you must turn right and head through the Main Lab Changing Room.

However, before proceeding through the Changing Room, look for a door marked Dr N. Brennan. Inside, you'll find an Audio Log from the doctor that Isaac is looking for on the ship. Listen to the Audio Log, and shortly after a side quest named Scientific Methods will get added to your journal. The Dead Space remake has a few side quests that you'll pick up throughout, so make sure to check the journal frequently.

This side quest follows Nicole's trail through the Ishimura, but the first step requires you to go to the Emergency Room, which you cannot currently reach.

If you approach Dr Kyne's office on the same level, you can turn right and follow a corridor that loops behind. Look in the toilets in this corridor to find another Audio Log. After listening to this Audio Log, enter Kyne's office and immediately turn left to find a Text Log. You can also play a video recording in here to get some more backstory on what's happening inside the USG Ishimura.

After grabbing the items above, make your way back to the Changing Room. Upon entering, turn right and look on a low table to find a Stasis Pack Schematic. Then, take the door that leads to the Prosthetics Center. As you head through, you'll see a man get killed by baby Necromorphs, which lash at his head using tendrils.

You'll need to enter that chamber and kill the baby Necromorphs by shooting those tendrils when they appear. After clearing the room, look around on the edge of the lower level to find a Text Log on a desk. Then, use the cargo lift to reach the upper level.

Kill any baby Necromorphs that appear at the top, and then head through the Sanitary Showers and into the Limb Stimulation Therapy room. Inside, you'll find the Shock Pad that you need. Interact with the nearby circuit breaker to divert power to the doors, allowing you to grab the Shock Pad. Once you have it, head into the Main Lab room ahead and make your way back to the Security Station. You might need to kill a few Necromorphs on the way.

How to get into the Morgue

As you head back, keep an eye out for a wall container holding a Power Node in the Main Lab.

When you arrive at the Security Station, use the Shock Pad and Hydrazine Canister as a makeshift bomb to destroy the barricade, granting access to a new area of Ishimura's Medical Bay. Kill the Necromorph that appears after the explosion and proceed into the Ishimura Clinic.

As you enter, turn left and look on a nearby chair to find a Plasma Cutter upgrade. You can take this to a Bench, where it will unlock new nodes to purchase. There's nothing else of note here, so you can pass through the Clinic to find the Emergency Room.

The Emergency Room is the location of the first objective in the Scientific Methods side quest. Shortly after entering and looking around, a hologram of Nicole will appear in the room. Simply watch the Hologram to complete your current objective, and then use the nearby circuit breaker to divert power to the showers.

To the left of the circuit breaker, a shower will open to reveal a secret door that you can shift using your Kinesis Module. The secret nook contains an Audio Log from Nicole. Listen to the Audio Log, and then your next objective will pop up, tasking you to find the Autopsy location in Engineering. This cannot be completed until later, so continue following the main quest for now.

To exit the Emergency Room, you must use your Kinesis Module to pull the power core out of the wall, transferring it from one circuit breaker to another. However, Necromorphs will attack as you do this, and it will also turn off the lights. After your brief fight in the dark, grab the power core and slot it into the other circuit breaker, found on the opposite side of the room, to send power to the ER Hallway A door.

In ER Hallway A, you'll find yet another door that is locked, requiring Security Clearance level 2. It's still a while until you get that Clearance level, so note down its location and continue on for now.

As you proceed through ER Hallway A, a Necromorph crawler will burst into the room and attack. Kill it, and then continue into ER Hallway B. Straight ahead, you'll see the door that leads into the Intensive Care Unit. That's where you need to head next, but we'd recommend exploring the rest of Hallway B to grab some extra loot first.

At the end of the hallway, look in a container on the wall to find a Power Node. You'll also find an Audio Log on the floor, near the Oxygen Recharge station. There's also another Audio Log on the wall next to the ICU door.

Where to find the Captain's RIG and get Security Clearance Level 1

Head into the ICU and save at the save station nearby, before heading through the door that leads into the Morgue. As you pass through, a large explosion will go off nearby, causing the corridor to briefly become a vacuum. This doesn't last long, though, as shutters quickly come down to seal the room. Kill any baby Necromorphs inside, and then use the elevator at the end of the room to enter the Morgue.

After the cutscene, kill any attacking Necromorphs. There are some Stasis barrels scattered around that should come in handy if you get overwhelmed. Once the room is clear, head back to the Autopsy Room and grab the Captain's RIG.

Hammond will come on the radio and talk about the Captain, before upgrading your Security Clearance to level 1. That unlocks a nearby door that leads back to the Emergency Room, and will unlock any other Security Clearance 1 doors that you previously skipped. Head through the now-unlocked door and back to the Security Station.

As you pass through the Ishimura Clinic (the room between the Emergency Room and Security Station), stop and look for a container on the wall. This was previously locked, but you now have the Clearance level to get inside. Open the container to find another Power Node.

From the Security Station, you need to backtrack to the Flight Lounge. We went on foot, going back through the Medical Cargo Depot to unlock a Security Clearance door, but you can obviously skip this if you'd prefer and use the Tram to fast travel. Upon entering the Flight Lounge, you'll see a brief recording of Chen's death, after which you should head into the Hangar Bay.

After entering the Hangar Bay, you will complete Chapter 2: Intensive Care.
