First screenshot of Ghostbusters. Press release beneath the cut, because we're so EXCITED we'll print a press release for once, as it contains a quote by Dan Akroyd. We're sluts for Dan Akryod.
The rumours are true. In an official announcement sure to set the entertainment world alight - it has today been confirmed that Ghostbusters: The Video Game is in development for a 2008 release.
The resounding cry of 'Who You Gonna Call?' has been answered today, as Sierra Entertainment announce the return of the world's favourite Ghostbusting trio. In a stunning coup, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Bill Murray will reunite for the first time in twenty years to voice Ghostbusters: The Video Game - the first joint project for the trio since Ghostbusters 2.
Since the Ghostbusters slimed the Statue of Liberty to life to defeat Vigo the Carpathian, legions of fans across the decades have waited with bated breath for the next installment of the immensely popular franchise. While there are no plans for a third film, Ghostbusters: The Video Game represents the “spiritual” successor of the series, offering players the opportunity to fulfil what will surely be a life-long dream for generations of fans - the chance to become a Ghostbuster themselves. With the ever-iconic streets of Manhattan providing the backdrop for all the action, the instantly recognisable theme tune - plus a range of familiar spooks and ghouls – all help to keep Ghostbusters: The Video Game true to everything that made the 1980's films so popular. However, stunning visuals and technology - that can only come from the incredible advances in gaming that we see today – alongside a variety of new fiends, brings the action right up to date.
Ghostbusters: The Video Game is truly the best example of the evolution of 'hybrid' development, combining video gaming with the film industry. As such, the incorporation of the original scriptwriters, the original actors and the development of a filmic storyline all help to provide the most complete Ghostbusters experience since the last film.
"[The game] is better than the third movie because it lasts longer and there’s more development of the characters." comments Dan Aykroyd, writer, director and star of the original films and writer of the game."I tell people this, 'If you have an appetite for the third movie, then the video game is it.'"
"Sierra Entertainment is extremely excited to not only deliver fans, old and new, this next chapter in the Ghostbusters universe, but to allow them inside the universe for the first time," said Martin Tremblay , president, Worldwide Studios for Sierra Entertainment, the division of Vivendi Games set to deliver Ghostbusters: The Video Game.

RPS says: This better be on the PC, because if it's not, we're going to look pretty stupid. Again.
