View Full Version : Solium Infernum: "This Way A Good Soul Never Passes..."

15-11-2011, 08:06 PM
Howdy folks,

First off, credit to the other SI game threads. Being a newb, I'm basically just ripping them off for this. So thanks, guys.

Looking to get a game together. Recent purchaser during the ShowMe sale and the multiplayer seems grand. Newbs and vets are all welcome, of course.

So far we have:
1. HooblaDGN (me) - Hosting GMT-8
2. Dolphan
3. Jarvis
4. Baboonanza
5. Easy
6. Realeh

We'll be playing on version 1.07e beta, which you can grab here (http://www.crypticcomet.com/blog/)
Note that the patch is not an auto-run application, you just drag and drop the files into your game folder.

Please make sure you have dropbox installed as we'll be using that to transfer turns and the like.

We're going to be moving at a slower pace to give everybody time to ruminate and torture themselves over their decisions, so plan on playing a turn once every 2-3 days. In addition, I'm GMT-8 here, so files may arrive at odd times. But at this pace, that should not be a problem.

If you're interested in joining this game, please PM me your email and reply with your votes for game settings by bolding your preferred option:

Options (defaults in bold):
Map Size: Choose between 12/14/16 hex width. Height is always 12.
Map Type: Picks between major map features. Great Rivers tends to be more open. Acheron's Locks has many small areas. Dante's peak has a large mountain and chasms to channel conflict. The Lake of Fire is also open, but adds a special place of power, The Palace on the Lake of Fire, which grants +1 order slot, in addition to prestige.
Place of Power: None, Rare, Uncommon or Common. Determines the number of places of power that will be generated. Public objectives and the Lake of Fire can override the None value.
Game Length: Determines number of tokens to be drawn to end the game (10/15/20/25). You can estimate a turn length of 4x the number of tokens.

I'll be sending dropbox links out to players who have signed up and getting the game started tomorrow. Today is rather busy.

Any advice for hosting from veterans would be greatly appreciated!

Let's get this going, eh?

Count me in. Same settings votes as in the OP.

15-11-2011, 09:00 PM
Count me in, though I'll be able to start playing only on the 22nd because of a vacation.

15-11-2011, 09:15 PM
I'm in and if everyone else who expressed interest in the main thread replys here that should make 6 of us.

I'll vote Archeon's locks with everything else default.

15-11-2011, 09:32 PM
I'm in. PM sent with my email.

15-11-2011, 09:42 PM
I'm in too :) will send email via pm

15-11-2011, 10:11 PM
Howdy guys.

As a reminder I won't be sending dropbox links out today as it's rather busy. Those will be tomorrow.

However, I'll still be updating our player roster.

We can either wait until the 22nd to start so that MasterBoo can join in...

Or we could invite that new realeh fellow from the main thread and get him in?

Let me know!

16-11-2011, 10:36 PM
Howdy guys,

2 things:

1. Still waiting for a confirmed fifth member. I'm going to message MasterBoo and see if he wants in for sure. In that case we'd be waiting until the 22nd to start, but that's no biggie. I'm also going to message realeh to see if he wants in. Whoever gets back first will be joining. We can always have the other join in the next terrifying game, or just in another concurrent game.

2. I'm currently setting up dropbox to host the game. Do people usually just run one big shared folder, one folder for each person, or just link to individual files in emails? I could definitely use some advice there.

Thanks, and I'll keep y'all posted.

17-11-2011, 08:56 AM
Alright guys, current update is that we're still waiting for a confirmed sixth.

17-11-2011, 09:36 AM
I personally prefer one folder with all the files in because it means I can set up a NTFS Junction that links to the SI multiplayer folder and means that I don't have to copy the files around. Just keep a copy of the .anc file somewhere else for backup.

But really it doesn't matter, copying the files only takes a second so just do what you fancy. Dropbox should keep backups automatically so I'm not sure that's even necessary (though I do keep my own backup on the games I host just because I don't yet trust the Dropbox backup).

17-11-2011, 07:27 PM
And I think we should get the game created so we can start submitting our avatars. Even if we can't start until the 22nd it will mean we're ready to go when MasterBoo joins in.

17-11-2011, 08:37 PM
I'm definitely up for that, but I'm still waiting on a sixth e-mail for a confirmed player and to my understanding you cannot add them once you've gotten it going. Should we just go with 5?

17-11-2011, 08:44 PM
Even though it asks for an email when creating the game it seems you can just enter any unique name, so you should be able to enter "MasterBoo" or even just "player6" if you're not sure he will be joining. You'll need the email sooner or later for dropbox though.

17-11-2011, 10:04 PM
Invites are in dropbox, guys.

If anybody wants to join in as the sixth player, pm me your e-mail

18-11-2011, 02:15 AM
And... we have a sixth, with Realeh joining us.

Shoot your files back in dropbox as time permits, no hurries.

18-11-2011, 06:31 PM
I'm in as Sundrance.

19-11-2011, 08:49 AM
Hello everyone,
I've gone through the arcane instructions and put the turn in. Yay!..I mean..you shall all burn!

19-11-2011, 08:18 PM
I'm in as "Mr. Srs Bsnss, Bro." Couldn't bring myself to a serious name that didn't sound corny.

The main game file is in under 'current turn'.

Get to plotting doom!

Oh man. Something that I love and hate about this game is that you're always in the center and surrounded on all sides. Eff.

Also, realeh and I are newbs and could use some evil tips... or are they tips?

20-11-2011, 10:47 PM
Turn 2 main file is up.

21-11-2011, 10:45 AM
Shit. I miscalculated and completely screwed my character build. This is going to be a painful game...

21-11-2011, 10:34 PM
Well I'm a newb so no worries there, my build is probably also crap.

Also... totally did not know that cities had their own neutral guard before being captured at all. Totally just massively screwed up. Oh well.

21-11-2011, 10:47 PM
Yeah, I read a newbie guide in preparation for playing it again and the first line was something like 'Don't move into a PoP unless you're ready for the fight!' Don't worry, starting legion will re-form in a few turns and you can always buy another one/focus on other things (levelling avatar, getting into relics/manuscripts/praetor combat etc).

23-11-2011, 07:17 AM
Turn 4 is up.

27-11-2011, 09:11 AM
We are still waiting on one person to drop their turn in. Holidays and all.

29-11-2011, 11:13 PM
It's Jarvis we're waiting on, right? Somebody get the poking stick ...

29-11-2011, 11:55 PM
Extremely sorry, i've been waiting as well - I'd done my turn and was certain i'd submitted it.

01-12-2011, 07:00 AM
Sorry for the delay on processing (I'm in California so the hours will always be odd). I'll have the next turn up and ready to go tomorrow... errr... late evening, for you guys(technically later today for you guys, actually), and I'll drop a post here when it's up.

02-12-2011, 12:13 AM
It's up! Some of you guys are doing rather well already...

05-12-2011, 01:53 AM
Turn 6 is up. Curse your scheming.

09-12-2011, 08:15 AM
Turn 7 is up. On a technical note, does anybody know how long it takes for your starting Legion to respawn? The game keeps telling me 'soon' but it's told me that for the last 4 turns.

09-12-2011, 10:10 AM
A while is the best info I have. I would expect it in the next turn or 2 though.

09-12-2011, 10:48 AM
Yeah, I think there's a random element but it should be soon. It'll be weaker than it was though.

13-12-2011, 06:35 PM
I'm not the culprit for delays this time.

13-12-2011, 07:07 PM
It's realeh I think.

15-12-2011, 06:06 AM
Ooh, I totally am, sorry! Have finals and thought there was another turn missing so I could not bother :D I'll upload it in...10 minutes.

15-12-2011, 06:10 AM
Uploaded it.

18-12-2011, 10:34 AM
Turn 8 is up.

Ugh. Looking like I'm toast.

Miscalculated what I thought I understood of game rules at every step.

Forgot that place of power had inherent defensive forces. Lost my starting legion to it.

Thought that I had correctly roped off the bridges into my land to claim that one last place of power that I had a chance at, but apparently not as now it belongs to Sundrance.

Oh, and of course everybody's having at me.

So far, I'm looking entirely screwed. Not so fun. Hopefully as the game goes on it gets better.

24-12-2011, 05:12 PM
Hey folks sorry I'm away from my pc until jan 1st. Sorry for blocking the game. Will process my turn as soon as I get back. And merry Christmas!

02-01-2012, 08:31 PM
Turn is in, sorry for the delay.

06-01-2012, 11:21 PM
Hoobla hasn't been on the forum since 18th December - should one of us drop him an email?

14-01-2012, 05:34 AM
Hey guys,

I was keeping up between Christmas and the New Year waiting for the last fellow's turn to come in, but since then life has been a bit bonkers and this passed by in the face of more important things.

Serious apologies about the delay.

I'll have the turn in within 15 minutes here!

EDIT: Turn is in, and curse ye all! It seems I'm going down with a fight.

22-01-2012, 09:35 PM
Turn is up. In case you managed to miss it, RPS was hacked or some such and your passwords here may be compromised, so I'd recommend changing them.

07-02-2012, 06:24 PM
There's a new folder but no turn file in it ...

14-02-2012, 09:42 AM
Howdy guys,

Been a while. I tend to check the dropbox for the first few days after I post the turn's save, see that we don't have everybody yet, and then proceed to forget about the game for a variable but lengthy amount of time. This sucks. Sorry about it.

I have a proven track record of it. I don't know if it's possible to switch hosts, but if anybody would like to take up that mantle and it's possible then they're welcome to.

Otherwise, it would help if everybody could have their turns in within 4 days of my posting the save, as otherwise I DO tend to forget about it in the face of everything else going on! Or, if you're fine with this incredibly slow pace, no worries!

The turn should be up, though!

14-02-2012, 10:17 AM
I thought this was dead to be honest. I would suggest that the last person to put in their turn gives you a PM.

04-03-2012, 12:02 PM
We're still missing caprica6 for this, I'm looking at deleting this from my dropbox soon.

04-03-2012, 09:52 PM
Folks, AFK for a week starting tomorrow :/
