View Full Version : Steam mobile app

So Valve have released a mobile app for Android/IOS. Downloading now, anyone using it yet?

Upon installing it it immediately asks you for username/password, for obvious reasons. However, I am not sure the ability to chat/browse the store is worth the slightly elevated security risk.

That's cool I guess, but it just doesn't serve much of a purpose to me, as I spend nearly half the day in front of a computer so I never miss a Steam sale. I also don't talk to my Steam friends unless I want to play something, which would mean I would already be at my computer. I can see the merit in it though.

About time - I downloaded it, but for some reason it won't let me in.

Same here.

Maybe you have to opt in like with the recent Skyrim beta.

Looks like a beta with invitations for sure... the link GraveyardJimmy (great name, btw) posted redirects to the main store page now.

Is in a Closed Beta period. We must wait. :D

And now, for the first time since the advent of smartphones, I want one. F**k you Valve, f**k you.

Bah. Save yourself some time and bother and just buy a cheap android tablet. It'll let you fuss with all those android apps on the go without costing you a giant phone bill or ringing at you every time one of your friends wants help moving a dead body.

The idea of making it even easier for me to spend money on Steam sounds awesome and terrifying at the same time.

I got 'Steam mobile app' in my inventory today, and I can now log in on my phone :D, it says I can gift it? Will look into this.

27-01-2012, 04:48 PM
I wonder if you can gift it and still access the app.

Also, I checked my inventory, but no dice.

Hmm, can Steam branching into selling Android/iPhone games be far behind?

27-01-2012, 05:24 PM
Sadly, opening a competing store on iOS is against Apple's Terms of Service. Though Steam surely is better at managing downloads in my experience (Apple only implemented the list of items you've purchased but not downloaded less than 6 months ago).

huh, so this is also working with the steam inventory. I wonder when steam will officially become a game in itself and award you stuffs into your inventory once you get to a certain place with your phone...

App is installed, and I'm eagerly awaiting some kind of invite wave that valve send out.

"Hello All-

Here is an update on the beta rollout. We have now granted access to the first 2000 people who have attempted to login through the app and we plan on increasing that number steadily tomorrow and next week.

We want to make sure that the mobile experience is good for everyone who participates and the safest way to do that is to only let in a few users at a time. We appreciate the patience of those of you who have not yet received an beta invitation.

For those of you who are participating in the beta please don't forget to gift your beta key to a friend and help to grow the beta.

Just got an invite, its pretty stable and looks nice. Pretty much what you'd expect.

PM me if you are my friend... and would actually be able to make use of this key.

27-01-2012, 10:49 PM
Just got my invite and an extra one to send to a friend. If anybody wants it just shoot me a pm.

27-01-2012, 11:19 PM
I have no steam friends. 'Tis of no use anyway :( *forever alone.jpeg*

27-01-2012, 11:48 PM
Woo! I'm in, PM me if you want an invite.

28-01-2012, 09:24 AM
I also have a invitation. PM for it with your Steam name (I will use http://steamidfinder.com to find you, so make sure you are reachable that way).

29-01-2012, 02:44 PM
Yeah, same here. Just PM me with your id.

30-01-2012, 08:26 PM
I've got an invite as well; PM me if you want it.

Just scared the shit out of my flatmate by steam messaging him whilst standing behind him, whilst he played TF2, not realising mobile steam existed.

Worth it for that alone.
