Check in here, say hello. Who are you?

I'm Jim Rossignol, and this is all my fault.

03-06-2011, 08:14 AM
I'm Kad and I say we bring Jim to account

03-06-2011, 08:14 AM
I'm cwoac, aka Oliver and I play too many games and spend too much time monitoring things like twitter it seems (given where I am on this thread)

03-06-2011, 08:15 AM
Hi all! I'm amishmonster, and I write for a website and game as my cats do their best to sit on my arms. Call me Peter if you like.

03-06-2011, 08:16 AM
Hello, Jom Rossignol! (I love that meme far too much, can we keep it for the new forum?)

I'm Miker, and I've been an RPS addict for years now. My favorite games are the Unreal series, TF2, StarCraft 2, and Psychonauts. I'm a dirty American, and in the soul-sucking process of applying to medical school right now. That should do it.

(In other news, the Prey 2 trailer is rather quite something. The new Tomb Raider trailer ain't too shabby neither.)

03-06-2011, 08:17 AM
I am Duality.

I do computer games, far more than is healthy. I'm also very active in the anti-cheat side of gaming :)

03-06-2011, 08:18 AM
Oh hai. Me play games hurr.

03-06-2011, 08:19 AM
I'm Flint, and this forum reset nicely coincided with my decision to start to get more involved with the RPS community so here I am! I'm a PC-gaming music nerd and stuff.

Vexing Vision
03-06-2011, 08:23 AM
Hello, I'm Vex and I'm a PC gamer since I had a Commodore (which was way more PC than console, 'kay?).

You'll find me in the Blood Bowl and old-school threads. Unless I have to defend the Witcher again.

03-06-2011, 08:29 AM
Hello! My name is Tom, and I am breathtakingly talented at procrastination. Which is why right now I <i>would</i> be writing music, writing stories, travelling, or studying journalism, but am instead writing this.

03-06-2011, 08:33 AM
What a coincidence, procrastination is my talent too!
My nickname is mlaskus and I should probably change it because you silly, native English speakers can't pronounce it, no matter how hard you try.

03-06-2011, 08:40 AM
My name's Chris and I'm a spooky ghost who haunts forums (wooOOOOoooo). I'm also a writer of little fame, who's handily using this newfangled forum to procrastinate when I should be fictioning great heaping mounds of fiction.

If you fancy something free to read (perhaps in the genres of Sword & Sorcery or Space Opera), you should <a href='http://oktopods.wordpress.com'>drop by my website</a> and download to your hearts content.

Hmmm... with this much spamming, I almost feel like I should be directing people to a Chinese shoe site.

Edit: Seems that hotlink didn't quite work. [insert foul language here]. Trying HTML instead.

03-06-2011, 08:42 AM
I think you may find that many people who frequent forums share in this talent for procrastination, I know I do.

I'm Jockie and I've been an avid PC gamer since the early 90's, I also write about games quite a bit and enjoy long walks in the cold grey wastelands of the North.

03-06-2011, 09:12 AM
I play games and lurk in forums to escape from my dull and pointless life, but don't tell the wife I said that, she might hit me.

03-06-2011, 09:32 AM
Hi, there, I'm a professional lurker and active bloodbowler.

03-06-2011, 09:42 AM
Hello, my name is Gassalasca and I should probably be looking for work. Or at the very least having a breakfast.
Instead I am joining the procrastination herd, whiling away my life with the rest of you. Alas.

03-06-2011, 09:58 AM
I'm StrangLove, I've been a reader of RPS since way back, and an active member of several of the RPS social clubs since september. I can be found playing ARMA, Terraria, MOWAS or F&S most nights.

03-06-2011, 10:08 AM
I am Ian. I like computer games, play a lot of multi-player Blood Bowl with RPS folks and like long walks on the beach.

03-06-2011, 10:22 AM
Hello I'm Jim and I have still never read an RPS article. The Blood Bowl is good though >_>

03-06-2011, 10:28 AM
I am uploading files to a website just now.

Being a webmaster is hard sometimes.

My nick name is Tei.

03-06-2011, 10:30 AM
I'm Mal. Although I had previously owned a ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Atari ST and Commodore Amiga, I became a PC gamer since I installed Doom on a work PC in 1994, while the boss was out.

I only have Peggle on this one though.

03-06-2011, 10:34 AM
Hello my names Matt

I do 3D animation and attempt to make games. RPS has been eating up billable client work time since 2010!

03-06-2011, 10:35 AM
Hi, I'm TheApologist. I also procrastinate when I should be collecting data, reading words, or writing words. Today I am currently not reading words.

My PC is called Keith. This forum post is a joint effort, as is gaming. Except when I play on my PS3 called Gavin (shhhh, don't tell Keith).

03-06-2011, 10:48 AM
Hi, I'm thegooseking. I let my principles get in the way sometimes. I punched a bloke in the face once for saying Dragon Age 2 was rubbish. The point is that I was defending recent Bioware RPGs with terminal intensity, when what I should have said was, "Dad, you're right, but let's give Mass Effect a try, and we'll discuss it later."

Oh, and my PC calls itself Jupiter. I think it's a bit pretentious, but don't tell it I said so.

03-06-2011, 10:49 AM
Hello, I lurk a lot and play games sometimes. It's working out quite well for me.

03-06-2011, 10:51 AM
Hello, I'm Spider Webb.

Comrade Commissar
03-06-2011, 10:51 AM
Hello there!
I'm MrWeed. People outside the virtual reality call me Troll (Yes, that is my nickname) or Philipp. You may call me whatever you like.
I play games on my computer and I am a big fan of RPS. You will mostly find me on the Minecraft topic in this forum or writing uncool comments to the articles on RPS. I often do this instead of doing the stuff I should do.

I use a Xbox 360 controller on my computer. Yes, that's right.
Playing on a PC while sitting on a couch and pretending to have an Xbox is cool.

That's everything you need to know about me for now. Bye!

As everyone is writing the names of their computers in here, I'll do the same.
Mine is called Troll.

03-06-2011, 10:51 AM
Heyo, I'm Theoban as it says <- There

My hobbies include walks on the beach, going to the cinema and playing some 'computer games' as they're called.

Note: Hobbies may be lies.

03-06-2011, 10:55 AM
Hi there!

I'm mcwizardry and it seems like I spend more time on RPS than I do playing games.

Ace Jon
03-06-2011, 10:55 AM
Ace Jon. Web designer/developer, student, PC gamer. I buy a lot of games, I play a few.

PC's called Thunder. She's an i5 760/GeForce 460/8GB/SSD&HDD hybrid/Blu-ray munchin' monster. Recently got her a graphics tablet and that's been my life the past week.

03-06-2011, 11:01 AM
Hello, my name is Aaron and I'm an addicted to games, specifically. having a massive backlog.
*crowed drones "Hi Aaron"*
I'm on 1>x>8 step program to bite unto the jugular of my backlog, tear out its plastic wrap throat and drink the gaming goodness until the backlog is a dry husk.
*crowd stays silent despite a pause in the speel*
I'm the father of a family of gamers, so despite being capable of tucking into hex based strategy game, drawn out grand strategy games, hardcore simulations and demanding multiplayer games I often resort to casual games. I have a pretty wide definition of casual games being anything I can play pick up and play because of having kids and taking my gaming where I can.
I've been clean of full price games since Oblivion in... what, 2004?
*crowd applauds*

03-06-2011, 11:01 AM
Hello, my name is Notch.

I used to build my own PC's a lot as a teenager and a bit into my 20's, but these days I mostly just scroll down the list and select the most expensive prebuilt one I can get. My favorite games are doom, dungeon master, half-life, and so on. I work for Mojang, and I created Minecraft.

moth bones
03-06-2011, 11:07 AM
Hi, I'm moth bones. I'm not being 'trendy', I tried to get capital letters, but the forum said "No, lass. Lower case for you. Now everyone will think you're some nathan barley wannabe."

I enjoy games, but I'm generally pretty useless at them.

03-06-2011, 11:07 AM
Hi, my name is Smi. I've been hanging around these parts for a while now. I've been "gaming" since I were a wee thing, although it was games with EDUCATIONAL VALUE which is something sorely lacking nowadays. I think. Um. No, wait. There was one with maths and ancient monuments and an escape-from-alcatraz style game in it, although I can't for the life of me remember what it was called. I had a long hiatus from gaming due to having nothing powerful enough to play with (My Geforce 2 lasted me far longer than it reasonably should have) and then my "university" laptop being incapable of doing anything demanding.
Then I won a supershinyPC in PC Gamer, and it's been downhill ever since.

It's nice to be here, amongst fellow gamers!

Alex Bakke
03-06-2011, 11:09 AM
Hello, my name is Alex Bakke. I'm a student living in a small town in England, and I regularly play: Blood Bowl, ArmA2, Deus Ex, Farcry 2.

03-06-2011, 11:10 AM
Hello, my name is Tom.

I'm an English Literature student at Manchester. My favourite games are Dwarf Fortress, Starcraft II, and Minecraft (I do not work for Mojang and subsequently, unfortunately, did not create Minecraft). I'm in the process of learning how to code and hope to make an interesting game some day. I'm about to go travelling for three months, so the name HexagonalBolts will no doubt have been erased from everyone's memories by then.

My favourite Rock, Paper, Shotgun moment was when I was one of the people to get a free copy of ARMA II (the first thing I have ever won in my entire life).

03-06-2011, 11:11 AM
Hello. I'm one of those fancy "indie developer" things for a small weegie outfit known as <a href="http://twitter.com/RealityCouncil">Reality Council</a>. Our claim to fame is that Quinns once gave us a biscuit.

03-06-2011, 11:13 AM
I'm Auspex and I've spent the last 5 years at university and now can't get a job. I'll probably be on these forums a fair bit.

03-06-2011, 11:14 AM
Hi, my name is Michael.

I study computer science in Odense, Denmark. I find myself reading more about games these days than actually playing them.

03-06-2011, 11:16 AM
Pakoito, Spanish, BsC in IT aiming to be Game Designer in my spare time. Troll-ish in other forums. I also freelance articles for some spanish webs.

My first PC was probably a Spectrum but I barely remember, and I've been fiddling around with them since then. I didn't have my own console until 2005 and it was a Dreamcast.

03-06-2011, 11:17 AM
Hello everyone! I'm Tim and I like computer games.

03-06-2011, 11:18 AM
I'm Rico. You may have fragged me in such games as Quake 2, UT, Quake 3, UT2004 etc.

I was a runner up in GamerTV's 2003 "UK's Sexiest Gamer Competition". True story.

03-06-2011, 11:19 AM
Hey, I'm Arn "ShadowBlade" Richert.

I'm a member of RuneStorm, a team (me and my 2 brothers) that started modding UT2004 and is now working on our first commercial game, Rooks Keep. I live down in South Africa.

Games that rock are Doom, Unreal 1, The Witcher, Starcraft, Assassins Creed, Quake, Total Annihilation, Borderlands and Valve games.

03-06-2011, 11:20 AM
Web Cole, sometime lurker/occasional poster on the old forums. :)

03-06-2011, 11:20 AM
Hi, I'm newc0253 and my first computer was a Challenger 4P with 8K of RAM.

03-06-2011, 11:20 AM
I'm Athena, new to these forums but I thought I might as well sign up to these forums. I've been reading RPS for a while and check it daily. I like videogames, particularly RPG's and RTS's.

03-06-2011, 11:20 AM
Hi, I'm Keroton.

I grew up on Amiga/Nes/PC , was lucky cause my dad worked in Hong Kong, so he used to bring a lot of technology back home (which was really cheap there), I started playing video games really early, like 2 years of age. Was not lucky at that time cause I am from Serbia so I survived a War/Dictatorship/Political revolutions and being thrown bombs at. Decided that I'm going to be an artist later mostly interested in computer music whatever that was, last week i opened a studio where I'm doing lots of crazy stuff that involves old hardware/software which makes me really happy cause i melt seeing old stuff like that.

Favourite games: Doom and Deus Ex.

03-06-2011, 11:21 AM
Im Helder, and I'm an addicted.

03-06-2011, 11:21 AM
Oh, and my computer's name is Durandal. Not the most original, but I only had a Mac until I was 16, so the start of my computer gaming was limited to Marathon, Myth, and DinoPark Tycoon.

03-06-2011, 11:22 AM
Hello, I'm Kyle and I make flash games sometimes.

03-06-2011, 11:22 AM

I'm Dan and I'm an animator by profession, but do games and music too. RPS is very nice and things.

03-06-2011, 11:22 AM
Hey everyone, I have a weird nickname and I love Bioware.

03-06-2011, 11:23 AM
I'm dudeglove and I recently made the life-altering mistake of finally getting into steam. I also think Devil May Cry 3 is one of the best games of the last generation. Some folk think this is odd.

Hello world

Antonius Prime
03-06-2011, 11:28 AM
Hey Folks.
Name's Tony, I play games.
Asinine, I know, but honestly, I play far too many to count.
At the moment though, it's WoW, Minecraft and tabletop 40K.

03-06-2011, 11:28 AM
Hi, my name is Screwie, Screwball, Screwberry etc. I registered on the old forums not too long ago mainly for the joy of Blood Bowl, but I'm also a bit of a PnP/board game nut.

Currently saving up for a high-end upgrade for my 4-year old PC so I can play super pretty games again.

03-06-2011, 11:29 AM
Hello everyone! I live in Sweden and love PC gaming. Although right now my computer is way to old (and broken) so I can't really play much on it I still will always be a pc gamer first. Love indie games.

03-06-2011, 11:33 AM
Hello I'm Patrick Swayze, you might remember me from such films as Red Dawn, Total Recall and Blade Runner.

I spend too long browsing the interwebs and playing games while I'm supposed to be writing books.

Hello, I'm Thants. I stole my name from an English TV show, even though I'm Canadian. I enjoy pretending to shoot men in electronic games for the personal computer.

03-06-2011, 11:43 AM
Hello, my name is Jako and I'm Italian.

03-06-2011, 11:45 AM
Hello, fanatical player of Arma 2 since the previous installment. Funny that I found RPS a couple of years back in a search for a Fallout type game. Think the result was The Fall: last days of gaia. Been reading RPS daily ever since.

Sonny B
03-06-2011, 11:45 AM
Hey, my names Sonny, English, and a very avid gamer, its the only other thing I do other then Parkour haha. I've a fondness for any game from FPS to rhythm games, so yeah, sup.

03-06-2011, 11:45 AM
My name is Jack, and all I do is think about games all day.

03-06-2011, 11:46 AM
Hello, I am Bodge. I can be found in the steam group chat, probably playing ArmA2. If you have any questions or enquiries about our ArmA community or server feel free to ask.

03-06-2011, 11:48 AM
Hello, my name is George, I go by westyfield (or sometimes with a number afterwards) online. I'm from Bath, I like tea but also coffee. My PC is called George's PC. I'm currently a sixth-former, taking my A2-levels in a few weeks.

03-06-2011, 11:51 AM
Salutations. I'm Ashkin, and I don't really do anything. You can just consider me... furniture. Yes.

Bingo Bango
03-06-2011, 11:55 AM
Hello, I'm Thants. I stole my name from an English TV show, even though I'm Canadian.

I know the one! Thanks, ants.

Hi errybody! I'm Bingo Bango. I read Rock Paper Shotgun. I play what it tells me to play and I also do voices and bossing around on mods and fings, like Pirates, Vikings & Knights II! (http://www.pvkii.com)

03-06-2011, 11:55 AM
Alright, I'm soupeh (Jack). Rockpapershotgun is basically my bible nowadays regarding PC games. Other than that, avid Leeds United fan and love health and fitness malarky. Currently playing: Mount & Blade, Brink, and Dirt 3.

03-06-2011, 11:57 AM
Unaco. Not UNATCO. And before you try, I've heard every possible joke to do with my name.

03-06-2011, 11:58 AM
I'm venn177, an avid MMORPG fan who never gets past level 15 due to the (ironically) isolated feeling I get from playing them alone. I should make a topic on this.

First time on the forums, the old look of them scared me away when I tried to sign up.

03-06-2011, 12:00 PM
I am James, except sometimes without the e. I like computer games and computer games.

Anyone thinking we should get a Trackmania league going?

03-06-2011, 12:03 PM
Ey up, I'm a long time enjoyer of RPS and all its fine members, and occasionally comment on the site when I think I have something funny to say. Or I want to make an "and in the game" joke.

03-06-2011, 12:05 PM
Alright chaps and chapsies. I'm Joe and I just hit the refresh button on RPS when I'm bored.

Tiger Walts
03-06-2011, 12:07 PM
Hi I'm Stuart. I enjoy long walks in open worlds, visiting dungeons, and engaging in social bullet-face time.

You'll find me haunting EG, RPS or <a href="http://www.allaboutthegames.co.uk">AATG</a>. The latter of which I sometimes write stuff for, but not for a long while, I should do something about that.

I AM GAP GEN, PLAYER OF GAMES AND DESTROYER OF WORLDS. At work I'm a mild-mannered astrophysicist, creating universes and blowing up stars, but in my private life I stack blocks and uphold Southern rights. I've read Rockpapershotgun since it was called PC Gamer, and tweet puns at http://twitter.com/#!/sgeen

03-06-2011, 12:12 PM
'ello everyone. I just registered on this forum. I have a problem with my Steam games: They don't play themselves. Thinking about that shortcoming consumes more time in my daily life than I would like to admit. Out of sheer guilty conscience I regularly haunt this here website, pretending I care for games like I used to when I still had the time. I'm sorry, games. It's not you, it's me.

03-06-2011, 12:12 PM
Hello, I'm Wizlah, and spend forum time either here or at a phillies messageboard. I mostly post about not having any time to play games, on account of how I'm a father of two young kids. Except Frozen Synapse. That I can play. I actually enjoy getting my arse tanned. (And ... oh, y'all know what I was going to say.)

03-06-2011, 12:13 PM
The names Frenz0rz, or just Frenz if you prefer. I've been a avid RPS follower for quite some time, and try to contribute to the comment threads as much as possible. Oddly, though, I hardly touched the old forum.

I'm also the staff writer for Team SAO, which you'll probably see me plugging occasionally. Forgive the state of our website, it's fairly new and we're waiting on a software update so that we can transfer a lot of the old features. SAO 16 (one of our occasional clan events) is coming up next Saturday, so feel free to pop in for a game of Left 4 Dead or Blood Bowl.

Right, that really is enough plugging. As for me, I play quite a broad spectrum of games. Basically, if a game is regarded as being good, I'll give it a go regardless of the genre.

Hmm... I cant seem to figure out how to embed links into text here. Anyone know?

Hi I'm Will, my handle came from a dream where I had a net made of a thousand rabid eagles strung a meter apart. I used it to catch a flying killer whale.

Since girls do not exist on the internet I can safely reveal here that I like to eat fermented tofu.

03-06-2011, 12:24 PM
Hello, my name is Joe. I'm an unemployed uni drop out, and I use words to mask my failure.

03-06-2011, 12:29 PM
I'm a maths research student. This means I read books and papers all day whilst wishing I was doing anything else but read books and papers all day.

Always enjoy a game of Blood Bowl, and will generally play any game - however badly designed - if it has a good story. I get easily addicted to MMOs but single player sandbox games bore me to tears. I hate all RTS games with a passion ever since I wasn't immediately good at them as a kid and wrote them off forever.

03-06-2011, 12:29 PM
Greetings one and all, I am the one they call Sidian. RPS is by far my favourite gaming site and is quite wonderful. These forums seem to be a big step up from the last ones, so I'll probably be more active on here from now on and I hope to make some good gaming buddies in the future. I like most game genres but my favourite games are old school, classic RPGs with good writing and plenty of choices and consequences such as Fallout 1, Planescape: Torment and Arcanum.

03-06-2011, 12:31 PM
I'm Jimmy. Hit me up for ARMA, Red Orchestra (+Darkest Hour), Men of War Assault Squid and flying shenanigans. I'm usually in steam group chat if you want a game :D

03-06-2011, 12:31 PM
Hello gents, RL handle is Bill, i've been on the forums and commenting on the site for a while now. Longtime gamer and onetime pundit sort of between things and generally enjoying the craic. Good to see the new forums are up!

03-06-2011, 12:39 PM
I am Yodith, aka Jodi, and have been playing PC games for a good 15 years. I work in digital media in a primarily SEO, blogging and social media driven role for all manner of high-profile multinational clients. I'm fairly old skool PCGF and have been on the diaspora sites for quite a long time, for those that still means anything to.

Although this is a PC gaming site, I'm also a keen console gamer and don't let platform get between me and a good slice of action. I'm generally a single-player only type although I enjoy a bit of BFBC2 online and used to be a hardcore WoW raider in a World Top 25 guild. My MMO days are now long behind me although RPGs generally remain my preferred genre by quite a stretch.

I also enjoy writing and blogging outside of my professional capacity and would be eager to get involved with any gaming-related blogging projects anybody here is running. Drop me a PM if you've got something on the go.

03-06-2011, 12:58 PM
I am AbyssUK, I may or may not be a senior member of Anonymous you'll never know.
I get angry about DRM and even more angry at stupid people who think DRM will fix piracy.

I am a real scientist who does experiments and stuff, not that rubbish biological/medical stuff but REAL stuff with metals and ceramics and mud.

In my spare time I plot ways to take over the world, I am planning on writing a book about it.

03-06-2011, 01:04 PM
Hi folks, my name is Markus and I'm infiltrating RPS on behalf of the German government. Your humor confuses me but I try to blend in by playing Blood Bowl with you fine gentlemen.

Nice new forum, by the way, should prove to be much better than the old one.

03-06-2011, 01:06 PM
Hola, I'm UW. I've been about for a while.

I've got square brackets around my name now because there is a 3-character minimum as a new feature on the forums.

03-06-2011, 01:07 PM
I'm Chalky. I post stuff on the internet from time to time. When I'm not writing introduction posts on rock paper shotgun, I moderate guildwars2guru.com, a Guild Wars 2 fansite. That game's going to be quite good, or so I hear.

03-06-2011, 01:09 PM
I am Allan Schnorr. I live in Brazil and I am a PhD Student who plays PC games in my spare time.

03-06-2011, 01:10 PM
Hello, I am Seb, and it's all Jim's fault.

By day I do internet things, by night I make games. Or is that the other way around?

03-06-2011, 01:10 PM
Hi, I'm Simian9, been lurking on RPS for ages... nice new shiny forums have galvanised me into registering. Into most things, FPS, strategy (RTS, turn-based), RPG. Hope to do less lurking and more non-lurking.

03-06-2011, 01:11 PM
I'm State. I tend to read about games more than I actually play them. I'm also a machinima.com director of GTA IV videos (http://www.youtube.com/user/State209).

03-06-2011, 01:15 PM
I am Soldant. I'm a long-time lurker who has read all of your insightful comments and I just generally like the RPS community. By day I'm a nurse. On weekends I volunteer as a medic.

I'm Duke Nasty VI.

I'm a computer science student.

It turns out I'm not very good at introducing myself. Some short facts: I like most game genres as long as the game is good. I've been reading RPS for a few years now and I had at least 5 posts on the old forum. Right now I'm playing Football Manager 2011, because I'm very fond of procrastination. Especially when there are exams coming up. Oh, and I'm from Norway.

03-06-2011, 01:21 PM
I'm Maykael, I am a philosophy major that is not pretentious and I think this is the best place to be on the internets. I also really like this new interface.

03-06-2011, 01:21 PM
I'm Renfield, and I started following RPS ca. 2007, and never stopped. Not even when Quinns phoned it in that one time, or when the comments ooze topical hatred! Edit: Though as charmingly as one can ooze.

When not reading RPS, I mostly play RPGs (p&p included) and strategy/tactics stuff (only virtual). Sadly, due to a lack of resources for a proper system, my current PC is a quasi-gaming laptop, just about managing DA2 in medium settings, and shall therefore remain nameless. It cannot remove its own eyeball.

Also, I don't hate consoles. They give me a means to follow more of the current gaming catalogue than my PC allows, and are therefore pretty alright in my book; and/or inherently a viable gaming medium.

tl;dr -

I love RPGs, I love strategy, I love tactics (and in the game), and I require more minerals, so my present PC is a bit meh. When not gaming(!?), I think about thinking, and listen to too much classical.

03-06-2011, 01:25 PM
I'm Ben and I'm a proto-psychologist. I started reading RPS because of a friend who enjoyed reading the work of the hivemind back in magazine days. I'm ashamed to say that I had not heard of them before I came here several years ago.

03-06-2011, 01:28 PM
HI I'm tssk and I've been a long time reader of RPS which has caused me to spend too much money on PC games. I've been gaming since the late 70's and love consoles and PC's. The PC has become one of my two main platforms of choice (the other being the DS for long trips). I decided on the PC after wanting to play games on the 360 but hearing horror stories about the 'red ring of death' (and even seeing one happen once.) Sure my PC has died a couple of times but at least I was able to open it up and fix it.

What I love about the current PC scene is that it's almost like the heyday of the Amiga with high budget blockbusters and indie games rubbing shoulders.

(Hey admins, any chance of a retro and 'other' corner for games not on the PC? Man cannot live on bread alone you know.)

03-06-2011, 01:28 PM
I'm Mikael, who live in the northernmost peninsula of Norway and thus Europe. Came across RPS a year ago and haven't managed to escape it yet.

Dan Lawrence
03-06-2011, 01:34 PM
I'm Dan, I like to think of myself as an indie game developer. I'm currently working on an X-Com inspired, medieval/grim fantasy themed game called Free Company a bit more about which can be read about over on my game dev blog (http://www.roboticshed.com/).

You might also know of me from my programming work on Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising (the less popular modern sequel to that fan favourite :D) or my earlier years working on Half-Life/Unreal and source mods like The Opera and Action:UT.

I'm a long time RPS fan since they first opened their doors and a fan of most of the writers from their PC Gamer years.

03-06-2011, 01:35 PM
Hi, I'm Tikey, I post often in the rps forums and I finally got my nick capitalized.

03-06-2011, 01:36 PM
i the confused owl known as akeripper
avid sims3 player
RPS is love yes?

03-06-2011, 01:48 PM
Hi all, I'm Ovno, some of you will already know me from RPS Holdings in eve.

Been playing games since the Atari 2600 though nowadays if it hasn't got a keyboard and mouse I look down upon it with great disdain :p

I work as a software engineer making video fruit machines though I am currently trying to make the break into indie game development, hopefully you will see more of me through my creations in the years and months to come =D

03-06-2011, 01:52 PM
Hi all. I'm lunarplasma, and prior to this post, my post count equalled zero. It now does not.

03-06-2011, 01:54 PM
Hello. I'm Alex and happen to be a quite boring human being, utterly inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. My main source of game news is RPS, occasionally supplemented by EG, and I sometimes spend more time reading about games than actually playing them, which apparently isn't as uncommon as I previously thought.
My involvement in these shiny new forums will most likely consist of lurking until I feel compelled to get into an argument regarding some completely arbitrary abstract point, feeling ashamed about it and returning to lurking. Sometimes, I also make lame puns and references no one gets.

03-06-2011, 01:56 PM
Oh wow, these new forums have it all! My name is Konrad and I am a PC snob.

Indefatigible Snoozer
03-06-2011, 02:12 PM
Hi - I am Indefatigible Snoozer. My name is oxymoronic, and therefore amusing.

I was previously Spankymonkey on the forums, but that was immature, and in any event did not match my Steam ID, and therefore confusing.

03-06-2011, 02:13 PM
Hi all. I'm lunarplasma, and prior to this post, my post count equalled zero. It now does not.Oh, how disappointed you will be ;)

03-06-2011, 02:14 PM
I'm Xercies, you may remember me from such websites as the old RPS Forums, and the RPS comments.

I got to reading RPS through the PC Gamer forum(the one i remember now dead) actually through that Pathologic trilogy that Quinns made, and the allure that John Walker was writing here as well who was my favourite writer in PC Gamer.

03-06-2011, 02:15 PM
Hey all, I'm John and I found RPS via the Idle Thumbs podcast. I am a recovering console person getting back into playing games on my pc.

03-06-2011, 02:22 PM
I'm Selesnya, posting a generic introduction! :P

03-06-2011, 02:24 PM
Hurrah, I've got my username back....

03-06-2011, 02:29 PM
I'm tall, blonde and completely delusional.

03-06-2011, 02:35 PM
I am Faldrath, from Brazil, PC gaming since 1990, so almost as old as RPS, right? I also get to introduce myself just after the spammer that's going to be deleted.

03-06-2011, 02:37 PM
Im 20k and err.. i write awful programs? :P

03-06-2011, 02:41 PM
Hi, I'm Jeroen.

I'm a software developer from Belgium, Engineer CS.
I play games and enjoy reading RPS a lot.

See you around!

03-06-2011, 02:43 PM
My name is airtekh, and like many people on this board, I play games.

A lot.

03-06-2011, 02:44 PM
I'm Jake, I read about games much more than I actually play them. I write about films on my blog. I love Silent Hill 2 and Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 though there is no real connection between the two.

03-06-2011, 02:47 PM
Bruno here. I write from Brazil (well, actually, I write from my computer, but I guess you got the idea). I'm a Software Developer and love games ever since my hand was large enough to hold an Atari joystick. The PC is my main game platform since 1995, and I love almost any genre (of games, of games!), only avoiding sports. No love for that, no no.

I love RPS ever since I first read it, but I must admit that wasn't long ago. I like the way indies balance against AAA titles on the site.

03-06-2011, 02:49 PM
Hello, I live in Greece and i tend to play distorted stringed instruments. Also, I have been known to play games occasionally (usually involving airplanes, if possible).

03-06-2011, 02:50 PM
Once upon a time, there was a fellow called Brennan who played a lot of games.

One day he wrote an introduction post on a forum.

03-06-2011, 02:59 PM
Hi! I'm sure no one really cares about a random internet person in a thread like this but I'll tell a bit about myself anyway.

First, I haven't been a RPS reader for long. In fact, I discovered the site only... late last year? Anyway, I've been enjoyed everything about it: the steady stream of news, the sense of humor on the site, PC focus (probably the reason I actually gave this site a chance)... I was a bit disappointed about the commenting system but I believe these forums will benefit the site greatly.

Anyway, let's get to more personal things. I live in Finland, I'm 20 years old, and just last fall, I started my physics studies at a Finnish university. More or less needless to say, I'm quite interested in physics (though I don't spend too much of my spare time with it so don't expect any deep understanding just yet). Among my other interests are computers and gaming, on both PC and consoles (though PC is definitely my main gaming platform). Other interested worth a mention are mathematics and possibly some cultures and more specifically some eras in their history. The Three Kingdoms era of Chinese history is definitely the one I'm most interested in.

I believe I don't really have any more to tell right now. I hope I'll be around here enough so we can have... interesting discussions. I feel like I'm often representing the minority in many issues others seem to almost love so I think we'll have more heated discussions than I'd like to :P

03-06-2011, 03:13 PM
My name is icupnimpn2 and I'm here to say, I love Fruity Pebbles in a major way.

I'm a Doctor of Pharmacy and have an MBA.

03-06-2011, 03:17 PM
Hi all, my name is DJ_Squizzy and I teach British Literature to high-school students in America, because I am an American.

Also, I spell color without the u.

Irony anyone?

03-06-2011, 03:23 PM
<-Enef, i play competitive TF2 and SC2, i like RPS.

anything else?

03-06-2011, 03:23 PM
Hi, my name is Oshada. My username is also (very creatively may I add) Oshada. I'm Sri Lankan and I live in Australia. My gaming is divided between my laptop and my DS Lite.

03-06-2011, 03:25 PM

I am golden_worm, welcome to my introduction to myself.
I am the more vocal aspect of a person interested in computer games.
I am the voice from the outer world.
I am an adventurer, leader of men, tactician, city planner, dictator, cyborg, and all round protagonist.
I am an exquisite imperfection living in the hollow core of a rational mind.
I am prone to hyperbole.

Stuff written as golden_worm may not be the full scope of my true thoughts or even a fair reflection of them, but they are the musings I have failed to self censor, so maybe they do say something about who I am. Enjoy.

03-06-2011, 03:26 PM
I'm Tatagigi, a french never-happy gamer.
I also comment on RPS sometimes, when I'm not trolling on other websites.
But I love you (yes, YOU), is that enough ?

03-06-2011, 03:28 PM
I'm Archaeon, and I've been addicted to RPS since I first stumbled across the site mid-2008. I love the Gaming Diaries and Wot I Think articles. RPS has led me to many an enjoyable indie game and for that I wholeheartedly thank you! I'm an American and an IT nerd with an unhealthy love of PC gaming.

03-06-2011, 03:34 PM
Hey there! I'm bob and im currently much too addicted to league of legends.

03-06-2011, 03:34 PM
Hello, I'm Alaric and I write for the Adrenaline Vault (http://www.avault.com).

I come here because I'm a PC gamer and want the scoop.
Also because I want to learn to write like the RPS guys do.
(And steal their ideas for my own personal gain.)

03-06-2011, 03:44 PM
Hi I'm Pekka and I spend more time reading about games than playing them. It's a tricky situation to be in.

03-06-2011, 03:54 PM
Good salutations, all. I am the Butts del Smacky. As for who Smacky is, why he has multiple butts and how I am the manifestation of many butts in total is anyone's guess.

I decided one day a few years back that I wasn't going to buy video game consoles anymore. Plugging a happy box into a picture box just hasn't been the same since controllers started having more than 4 buttons and a rocker switch. What happened was, I was smart. I was ahead of the game. If I used my computer, I could use all the buttons I ever wanted on my keyboard. And if they weren't enough, I could plug in USB peripherals for even MORE buttons. Forgive me, I... the button prospect got me a little excited.

Eventually this automatically became my favorite gamings blog. I enjoy the Sunday papers and the thoughtful reviews devoid of numerical scoring. Perhaps I can make some actual Steam friends as well.

03-06-2011, 03:54 PM
Hello, I'm Gerbick. And I'm late for the party!

The Great Skratsby
03-06-2011, 03:57 PM
Ahoyhoy I'm Alex otherwise known as Skratsby. Long time PC and console toy person, budding-post-grad game designer and professional procrastinator. Moved to RPS-Land from Australia, haven't kicked the habit of buying more games than available play time, and I love a bit of MechWarrior. I also do believe I've met a few fellow RPS chaps at a couple of the the London meetups.

Man Raised By Puffins
03-06-2011, 03:58 PM
I am a man.

The JG Man
03-06-2011, 04:06 PM
Hello all! I'm Joel, otherwise known as The JG Man (on Steam too!) and I'm a UK person. I started playing games when I was 3 and 18 years later, I still play them, regularly. I've just made a gaming PC and am trying to return to it from my last attempt. I've been on RPS for a few weeks and hope to get annihilated by you all in game soon.

03-06-2011, 04:22 PM
Hey everyone, I'm Kody; Kody94 on Steam. I've been playing games for as long as I can remember, with my earliest memories being Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear and Commandos on PC, Mortal Kombat and Super Mario Brothers 3 on the SNES. I hope to play with you all some time.

03-06-2011, 04:34 PM
Right, Hi!
I like computer games. Also I can barley keep on topic in message boards.

03-06-2011, 04:35 PM
Howdy. I'm Travis (Saiwyn on Steam). Thank God I found RPS last year after unfortunately being an avid Kotaku reader for a long time.

03-06-2011, 04:37 PM
Good evening, I am Snukk, and I most certainly didn't read the last 11 pages of introductions.

03-06-2011, 04:41 PM
CrimsonRising here! HI! Bye-bye.

03-06-2011, 04:52 PM
I'm Rakysh. I'm usually knocking around the steam chat, and so forth.

03-06-2011, 04:55 PM
Hello, I'm Thom, and I live in a former colony what is called Canada. Also, my graphics card just died.

03-06-2011, 05:11 PM
Hiya, I'm Plum :) I'm a PC gamer at heart but due to a restricted budget and wheezing geriatric gaming rig, I mostly only play oldies, indies and City of Villains on my beige baby - anything modern I tend to play on 360 instead.

03-06-2011, 05:16 PM
Hello, I am Shaker and I live in Amsterdam. I have been playing games ever since my dad got me a Pong console when I was a toddler. Game-wise I am kinda of an omnivore, but I do tend to favour strategy games and manshoots.

03-06-2011, 05:16 PM
RPS reader from way over in the colonies here. Got my first Blood Bowl beating in the RPS cup a few weeks back. I'm a big fan of you gents.

03-06-2011, 05:39 PM
Hello, I'm ata, I also like to play computer games.

The Official RPS TF2 server ( is fantastic when there's people on, hopefully see you there!

03-06-2011, 05:40 PM
I am DrazharLn, an RPS reader. I can exit North, but I will be eaten by a Grue if I do. Send Help.

03-06-2011, 05:43 PM
I am Henke. On the forum, as in the commentssections. Amen.

03-06-2011, 05:47 PM
Hi, Dave here and i am Australian and i really need to get some sun.

03-06-2011, 05:49 PM
Hello, I'm Dark.

I like games, and I've been known to help people smuggle them. Pleased to meet you all.

03-06-2011, 05:53 PM
Hi. My name is kind of ridiculous but it's the one I use these days so there you go. When I was a moderator on the old forums, I went to using my real name, Josh Brandt. Now that we're on the new forums, it's back to solipsistnation. "Soli" or "Solip" work if you don't want to type that whole thing out.

I'm a unix admin by trade. I play fewer games these days since my son was born, but he's getting old enough to entertain himself so I get more of a chance these days. I still get in an hour or so of World of Tanks almost every day after he goes to bed, and other stuff when I can.

I used to write for MacGamer.com (not the site that's there now, but a previous incarnation of it) and I'm listed in the IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1942408/).

03-06-2011, 05:57 PM
Hoi, chummers. I'm colR in Steam and Evolve, and in various games. I'll be lurking around.

03-06-2011, 06:00 PM
My name is Andy, and I'm an alco... wait wrong place.

So... Hello?

I'm in Newcastle, and am the proud creator of the Ultima Minecraft Texture pack.

03-06-2011, 06:38 PM
Hi, my name is Joe, I've got a wife and 3 kids and I work in a button factory....

Wait. What?

I'm JoeTom, you can call me Tom if you want cos you're lovely I'm sure. I like Starcraft, TF2, Bad Company 2, STALKER and the Command & Conquer series. Currently playing The Witcher 2, Brink and Singularity. Also, ambulances are sweet.

03-06-2011, 06:43 PM
Hello, Internet people!
My name is Conor, geeky student extraordinaire. I hail from the land of haggis and other stereotypes, Scotland!
I play all sorts of games, because I'm cool like that. My steam ID is cw001, should anyone have the urge to stalk me there.
So, erm, yeah. Hope to engage in delightful conversation with you lovely gentlemen/gentlewomen on these lovely forums!

03-06-2011, 06:44 PM
I'm Poindexter. Software developer by day, computer game enthusiast by night (and sometimes afternoon). Also an American.

The Innocent
03-06-2011, 06:45 PM
Hey all, good to see the new forum working so well! I'm The Innocent and I'm interested in games.

03-06-2011, 06:47 PM
I'm the guy behind Winter Wolves (http://www.winterwolves.com), and I love making story-based games. I'm just a small indie so don't expect any 3d real-time stuff... but I think the artwork of my recent game is nice. If you like 2d manga art of course!

Zak T Duck
03-06-2011, 06:51 PM
New forums? Best re-introduce myself then.

I'm Mark, more commonly known as Zak T Duck or Zak Canard depending on when and where on t'interwebs I am at the time. I mostly spend my free time as target practice in TF2.

Johnny Lizard
03-06-2011, 06:51 PM
Hi, fellow forumites. I'm Ben, aka Johnny Lizard. I like Football Manager, Deus Ex, interactive fiction and game journalism. I have a blog that I mainly use for writing about very old games.

Unpleasant Scott
03-06-2011, 06:55 PM

I'm Scott, I'm quite unpleasant.

Besides staring at my Steam sale to-do pile, I edit a public sector website, and hunt potential 'volunteers' with a blunt knife.

03-06-2011, 07:05 PM

I'm Tess, AKA Stense. Not sure what to say other than I play games, read trashy sci-fi, write dodgy dumb stories, following cricket, rambling and listening to suspect rock music.

Loving the new look forums. Its very forumy. Which is generally a good thing for a forum to be.

03-06-2011, 07:06 PM

I'm Patricia. Currently in college in MA, studying video game design and marketing, but what I spend most of my day doing is games journalism. To whore myself out a tad, this is the site that I spend almost every waking moment working on nightmaremode.net . Further plug: we're always looking for new writers/video people/podcasters, so you should get into contact if that's your kind of thing. Let's talk!

BUT ANYWAY, I just got into PC gaming this February, so I haven't been at it for long but...it's pretty much replaced my consoles. I can't believe it took me this long to adopt it. I'm just...amazed. Words, I don't have em!

Typical internet denizen here, spend a ton of time on forums and the like, so hopefully we'll get to know each other. :) Top 3 favorite games: Persona 4, Fallout 2 and Dragon Age Origins.

03-06-2011, 07:06 PM
Hello! I am SovietToly, live in the states. I love the compooter as I am sure all you guys do too. Been playing pc games since ever, my favorites are Battlefield Series, currently playing alot of Battlefield Bad Company 2, love RPG Witchers, Baldurs Gate, Fallout. Of course I dabble in the super modern shooters like black ops and that junk, kinda want to give Arma 2 a try.

03-06-2011, 07:07 PM

my name is Chris and I'm just this guy, you know?

03-06-2011, 07:18 PM
Hello. My name is Sean, and I think Scotch is the bees knees. I also enjoy PC games. And breasts. On women.

03-06-2011, 07:48 PM

I tried doing this much earlier - only to be unable to login. What's up with that, eh? Still - PC games, multiplayer games, singleplayer games, and long walks on the beach.

03-06-2011, 07:54 PM
I am Kester, and I am terrified by the implacable march of RPS forum technology.

Hello everone. I am *points to the left* that name over there. Not using my actual name, that'd be silly.

Anyway, I do love tea, and anyone who says any biscuit is better than the digestive is just plain wrong. I will fight you over that.

Testing, 1 2, Testing! Hum! Well, it works. I'm *REDACTED* and I'm a student from Portugal.

Yes, my life is THAT boring, I have nothing else to add...

03-06-2011, 10:13 PM
This introduction thread has been a fascinating read, running the gamut from typical student to devs & journalist, assorted teenagers, and quite few oddballs.

Like a surprising number of you I read about games more than I play them, follow RPS religiously ever since I found it late last year, and am looking forward to participating in the forums with you all.

03-06-2011, 10:28 PM
TheLastBaron, my last name is Baron so I've been using this as a username ever since the most recent Mastodon album came out which has the song "The Last Baron". It works out well as most people end up calling me "Baron" which is what most people call me irl.

03-06-2011, 10:28 PM
Hello people. Im just some random fella from the worst place (if you're a gamer) in the world: Uruguay... Still. I've managed to actually PAY for my games somehow! =P

03-06-2011, 10:31 PM
I'm Lambchops. I'm doing a PhD in organic chemistry and gaming would be one of the things I do when I'm not beavering away in the lab, if it wasn't for the fact that by the time I've spent an hour reading about it I don't have anymore time to actually do it.

Other interests involve sport, music, an even mix of trashy/quality television and the consumption of copious amounts of alcohol.

Hi, I'm named after a tree. I'm from Buenos Aires and I say kill 'em all.

Mr. Icarus
03-06-2011, 11:15 PM
I fell out of the air once, but I'm a bit older now. I'm a Computer Science student in good old California, USA who converted after getting a degree in Musical Composition. I am a huge fan of the writers on RPS, and of the commenters, who constantly amaze me with intelligent discussion and witty banter. Mostly.

I hope to be putting up my own website soon, and the inspiration to add another inane blog with poor writing to the interwebz is all your damn fault, RPS.

04-06-2011, 12:34 AM
I'm Ross, I live in London and I'm addicted to buying cheap games on Steam (Current count stands at 123 (75 installed)). I've been gaming since my dad introduced me to Magic Pockets and Monkey Island on the Atari at the age of ~5 and my first online game was Quake 2 (Action Quake 2 FTW!). Been lurking on RPS for a long time and thought I'd use the new forums to say hey! Oh and if there's anyone out there as crap at Shogun 2 as me online, then I'm up for a game!

04-06-2011, 01:05 AM
I'm P1ayerOne, games writer (as in in I write for games, not about them). Last project was the sports commentary for the 2012 Olympics game for Sega, and am currently looking for more work. In the meantime, working on Indie projects catching up on playing some games. Long time reader of RPS and took this forum reboot as a chance to join the conversation.

04-06-2011, 01:10 AM
Hi, I'm named after a tree. I'm from Buenos Aires and I say kill 'em all.

Did you see the Velez football game yesterday?

04-06-2011, 01:38 AM
Yo I'm Darkath, I'm French, living in Paris, moving to Shanghai soon.

I follow RPS since quite a long time but never noticed there was any forums, now with this shiny new vBulletin board, i'm sure it will be good place to lurk, troll and glorify the almighty PC Gaming !

Currently playing Terraria (little indie gem), Starcraft 2 (pure eSport awesomeness), and Brink (laggy unbalanced stuff)

04-06-2011, 01:41 AM
Hey i am karandraz, one of the resident blood bowl players. Pleased to meet you all :)

04-06-2011, 03:34 AM
I'm Rich and I've been addicted to video games for about 20 years now. At the moment I am mostly playing Section 8, Terraria and Frozen Synapse. I am also looking for people to play the above games with plus some AHL2 and Blood Bowl/

04-06-2011, 03:49 AM
Hey, I'm Ford. I like cheap, unusual PC games that can actually run on my aged rig. Trying to expand my horizons and all of that.

04-06-2011, 04:39 AM
Hello. I'm Meatloaf. Programmer, computer scientist, (mediocre) artist, and vodo gam enthusiast.

04-06-2011, 04:46 AM
Hi, I'm tonka, but you can call me tonka.
I'm a (you guessed it) computer science student in the University of Limerick.
My real name has 3 vowels in a row (out of a total of 4 letters), and should I ever reveal it, I will glory in the mispronunciations.
My reading of RPS directly caused me to buy Spacechem, AI War, and other incredibly great games that few of my friends have heard of (and they're all in games degrees :/)
I play a large variety of everything so I may suddenly arrive in a discussion of two very different topics... This is normal

also nice to see a few kinks in the system, that's how we know it's a keeper :)

Greetings RPS community, the sweetest smelling community in the whole galaxy. This is a link (http://www.informationweek.com/news/windows/microsoft_news/229900137). Microsoft and Nvidia are evil! So there. Hrm. Linking works but you have to have text already typed, after which you highlight else it continues to type before the /url tag unless you only write in bbcode editor mode.

This is a picture. Yay pictures work.

edit: yay edit works. However animated gifs do not.

Hi, I'm TDO and I'm an enthusiast of gaming and feldspar.

04-06-2011, 09:35 AM
Hello, I'm NecroKnight and I come from Crotia. I like to play all sorts of video games ranging from RTS & RPG to FPS. I also like to listen to death metal, although I sometimes listen to normal heavy metal and some rock'n'roll.

Hey, I'm Baris. When I'm not following RPS since I was 15 (feel the grammar destruction, mwaha) I study Enterprise Computing in Dublin City University. I like to stay up very late, become exhausted and ultimately post offensive crap on the forums.

04-06-2011, 10:32 AM
Berlin here, trying to survive through university, running my website about Nintendo (somebody has to) and writing for the web-edition of CD-Action as newsman/editor, listening to everything, playing everything except racing games and other boring stuff, and reading everything that's cool and adoring Murakami and Pratchett. Never been any good in introductions.

I think I might have the longest username on the forum so far, which I'm proud of. It can be abbreviated as "WIMHP" which sums me up perfectly to be honest.

Afternoon all - been keeping up with rps for a while and find it generally agreeable. Bought a new pc recently, so catching up on the last 5 or so years worth of gaming. Finished mirror's edge last night, loved it.

The Prince Of Love
04-06-2011, 01:56 PM
I'm currently 21 and studying computer science. I came to check this place out, because my current everyday forums is slowly dying. When it comes to games I mostly go for PC, and I usually prefer low budget games that tries new things rather to big budget games that play it safe.

Some find me eccentric, but most of my posts are serious and grounded in reason.

04-06-2011, 02:21 PM
Hey all,
been reading RPS for a few years now, and read the forums moderately frequently, though I currently only tend to post in the Blood Bowl threads I am a part of.

04-06-2011, 02:38 PM

because i'm uncreative i usually take song or album titles as a nickname, so wolfenswan (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CybSYMgzM3s) it is. (And for the sake of completeness: 'twas Latterman (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0WWkaYQLbM) on the old forums)

Playing mostly ArmA2, Vegas 2 and Red Orchestra/Darkest Hour with other RPS-chaps these days.

I animate games by day and work on my own projects by night. Primarily a PC gamer, though I tend to play the occasional console title as well when there's games worth getting the system for.

Favourite PC games: Outcast, Little Big Adventure, Grim Fandango, Gothic, Vampire Bloodlines, Half Life, Portal and others.

04-06-2011, 03:37 PM
I'm the old man (42) who's also the big Old Man Murray fan.

I also love to talk about Minecraft, Portal, Half-Life, Research & Development, Psychonauts, Freedom Force, Spider-Man games, Batman Arkham, Mirror's Edge, Prince of Persia, Trackmania, Rollcage, modern Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Ultima Underworlds, Ultima 7 & 9(!), Far Cry 2, NOLF, Myst games, Trine, Titan Quest, Torchlight, Rayman 2, Magicka, Assassin's Creed, Oblivion, Gothic, World of Goo, Serious Sam, Crimsonland, Heretic 2, Quake, UT, Thief, Descent, Freespace 2, Giants, MDK2, Wheel of Time, Braid, VVVVVV, AaaaaA, Defense Grid, Dark Messiah, GTA: VC & SA, Burnout Paradise, Tony Hawk, Audiosurf, Frets on Fire, Igneous, SHMUPS, interactive fiction, and playing console games in emulators.

I'm Jason and I'm not really evil, shifty maybe but not evil.

Fun Fact: My wife told me recently that her cousin works in the same office as the guy that did the voice acting for JC Denton.

Hi, I'm JohnnyK, and I am a Jackass. I needed a name for BF1942, and since I kept bouncing those lovely grenades right back to myself, the choice was easy. It has stuck ever since.

Gamer since we got a C64 when I was 7 (Great Giana Sisters for life!), I've become older and slower, still cannot get into RPGs, but love to play games, read about them and occassionally offer my rather bland opinions about them.

04-06-2011, 09:22 PM
Hullo, I'm Zealot.

04-06-2011, 09:47 PM
Hello you guys!

Anyway, I like what's been done with the place, although now have to remember where to go for different subjects now. I guess that's what come of being a proper big boy forum now.

Yeah, so name of dan and- holy shit I just found a bag of milky ways!

04-06-2011, 10:27 PM
I'm Laneford. I'm mostly harmless.

Hi! since you probably looked at the left of the post first, you already know I'm an obscure node by the name of Ghil

I've started gaming at 3 years old on a Nintendo and a 286, and haven't stopped since. :P

04-06-2011, 11:29 PM
Some find me eccentric, but most of my posts are serious and grounded in reason.

Don't fool anyone, most of your posts are as eccentric as you are, for they're too serious for a gaming forum :P

My name is WitchfinderG, and i have been playing the Gameboy since the mid 90's. I have no idea about that fancy smancy PC you guys are talking about, but i'm sure we will get along anyways.

Hi everyone. I also go by BeamSplashX (which is still how it shows up on the RPS comments, so I probably should've stayed consistent... meh).

HELLO! I'm a game design nerd, creative writer, and hobbyist laptop musician. Do you want writing/music for a creative endeavor? Hit me up.

I just read every single one of them.

Everyone seems really nice! But also I get the sense we are all crushingly aware of the vast gulf of distance that seperates us from true social interaction. The Internet is to social interaction what telegram-sex is to sexual arousal.

I come out with unfounded crap like that all the time, then have a whole few minutes of doubt about if I should say it. I write tweets at people and then delete them.

On the comments threads I have the same avatar but a different name. It's my real life name.

I like all the games on the PC, although strangely thought Half Life 2 was pretty poor on a recent play through. I would have consoles also if I could afford to (shortly will).

I forced myself to post this because I almost deleted it, hating the entire thing for it's lack of eloquence and rambling structure.

Edit: oh god I didn't say anything I wanted to. You're all very clever and sexy here on RPS. But don't get big headed about it. Okay I need to be shot, this is rediculous.

05-06-2011, 12:27 PM
Hello all, I am Acroman...can't remember why I have the 56 bit in my username since I have been using this since the internet began!

I love World of Warcraft (still) along with many many other games including, but not limited to: Minecraft, Terraria, Blood Bowl, Borderlands, Super Meat Boy, Trackmania, Hitman series, Red Dead Redemption (Boooo no PC version yet), WH40k: Dawn of War 1/2, Total War and loads of other PC/PS3 titles that I can't remember. I love films (don't we all) with Star Wars, Kill Bill, Sin City, Anchorman and Hellraiser being a few of my favourites and I am a closet wrestling fan.

And now you know, and knowing is half the battle!

Hai dar, Kai.

05-06-2011, 07:11 PM
I'm Nick Stevens/VoodooFrog and I was on the old forums too. I'm a web designer currently but hope to go study game design. I made the Minecraft Survivalism mod so if you're annoyed that more Minecraft stuff got posted on RPS or that I dragged you back into addiction, then I'm sorry. :D

05-06-2011, 07:34 PM
Hi, Also a long time lurker, with an interest in RPGs and games where I build things. Very happy to have stumbled upon RPS in my internet wanderings. I just felt that I should say so.

05-06-2011, 09:24 PM
I'm J.B. (in the real world & on these forums) and digital_pariah in Steam etc.

Been reading RPS for some time now, liking the new forums. Nice to meet you all!

EDIT: Oh yes, I'm in England (South-East to be not very specific). And like many of you I play far too many games on this here PC.

05-06-2011, 09:37 PM
Love the new forum. Hi, by the way, I'm pnikosis, but this is not my real name though: It's not that people on the street shout "hey pnikosis!" just to get my attention. Mostly because there are not many random people in the street that want to get my attention, but also because as I said before, "pnikosis" is not my real name... But probably you already guessed that.

05-06-2011, 10:09 PM
Hi, my name isn't really Bob and I am not a landscaping engineer. I hardly ever have time to game much anymore and generally get my gaming fix via RPS whenever the opportunity arises. I've been known to say incredibly stupid shit from time to time and would like to apologise in advance for any offence caused.

man-eater chimp
05-06-2011, 10:59 PM
This is the internet name I came up with when I was 12, and I've foolishly stuck with it. Ah well, too late now. 'mechimp' or 'man-eater chimp' on steam if your that fussed! I found RPS after reading the tall-nut article an indeterminate amount of time ago.

My PC is rubbish as I'm poor with little technical know-how so I'm stuck with free/low spec games, still fun though!

05-06-2011, 11:20 PM
I'm Swanny, mostly a WoW addict at the moment, but this site has helped me to support a lot of indie developers starting with AI War, and Mechanarium.
I play guitar, 40K, Necromunda, and make the best damn chocolate chip cookie you've ever had (don't ask).

An Anonymous Source
06-06-2011, 01:21 AM
Well hello there fine folks, An Anonymous Source here.

I've been following RPS for a few months now because of your awesome consistency in being above average. Thought those new forums would be a good occasion to start commenting.

I play games. On a PC. The one I'm using right now as it happens.

Greetings all!

My name is Kevin Veale, I'm a PhD student of Media Studies at the University of Auckland in New Zealand. I've written a Masters Thesis on storytelling in videogames, and a PhD on comparative storytelling in various digital media forms including videogames. I've been delighted to see the Sunday Papers articles about feeling in games, since that's pretty much the direction I've been going too. I lecture a summerschool paper about games and game culture because I am Incredibly Lucky.

Becoming a game academic was a great self defence for loving games yet remaining rubbish at them.

I've been reading RPS for several years. I wasn't in on the ground floor, but I was pointed at it by a friend (I think) within the first few months.

It's been a great resource for me, and I've been referencing articles left-right-and-center. Hell, I've written up a draft for a journal article which I realised is entirely devoted to games I only learned about from RPS.

(cue background clickery involving money.)

Well, if nothing else, this post has reminded me that I intended to become an RPS subscriber months ago, and forgot because I'm a Goddamned Genius.

I think the game which made the biggest impression on my formative years was Starcontrol 2, which I'm delighted to see has made it onto GoG.com as well as the glorious effort that is the Ur-Quan Masters. At some point I might do a more detailed rant about it.

Uh. Hmm. I guess that's it. Oh yeah: because I clearly decided that the life of a penniless academic raving in the streets about fireants and communism wasn't a big enough challenge, I'm a fiction writer.

I think that's where I sign off. I'm @krveale on Twitter if anyone's interested in bibblings about games, fiction, relevant academic wank and the like.

Hi, I'm Caleb/Cable (seewhatididthere?) i also study at the University of Auckland (yay!) doing law and science.
I've been lurking around RPS for a while i was brought here thankfully by Quinns' mine the gap series, i also play games on my personal computer when i find time as i have many to get through having only recently been truly brought into the fold of playing electronic games.

06-06-2011, 01:20 PM
Hello People,
I'm Joseph, a student (thing) from England. I've very recently finished college and I'm now waiting to go to University where I'll be studying games programming. Between then and now I'll be reading, playing games, playing guitar in terrible bands and attending various social alcohol consumption events.
I'd been reading RPS for quite a while now when they made this new forum (The old one didn't appeal to me much) so decided to join!

06-06-2011, 01:47 PM
I discovered RPS after becoming sick of Kotaku and now I can't go back. I'm a decommissioned Irish terrorist of not to be sneered at proportions- I used to enjoy Modern Warfare but it got a bit tedious and boring. I like em all, big and small, something with a good story and brilliant music is what I'm really interested in though. I make and study music in different forms, sometime this summer I'll be asking your opinions on some of this :)

06-06-2011, 03:48 PM

My name is Ross. I've been playing games since the ZX Spectrum. I'm 34 and from the UK. I used to run a gaming community. Now I don't.

I'm currently playing The Witcher 2, Dirt 3 and Theif: Deadly Shadows.

06-06-2011, 04:31 PM
Hello, hello. I am squirrelfanatic and I like good video games. I started off with an NES, made my way through the (short) N64 era and I am still happily playing on my Wii on and off. Wait, you don't care about consoles here, you say? But I also DO like PC games, yes sir. Matter of fact, these days I "do" more PC than consoles. As I said, I like good video games and I don't care too much which platform they're on, as long as I have access to that given machine.

Multiplayer-wise I enjoy some TF2 from time to time and I have a history of Guild Wars which will be extended as soon as GW2 is released.

06-06-2011, 05:20 PM
Hi, I'm Caleb/Cable (seewhatididthere?) i also study at the University of Auckland (yay!) doing law and science.

Cable has been my go-to nickname in forums for years, and yesterday i tried to log on with your name, only to find that I wasn't registered yet :(

So I'm ̉scar/Oscar, both here and in real life. I'm a Spaniard currently studying translation and interpreting and will move to Munich to do my Erasmus next year woohoo. I'd love to end up in the localisation side of videogames. Also I promise my Spanish is much better than my English. I like games and stuff.

06-06-2011, 09:02 PM
apologies for thiefing it, i hope you can develop a sufficiently acceptable alter ego for use on this forum :)

I'm DarkTAO and I am a Troll/PC Gamer. I came to RPS a while back on the old forums playing minecraft in Alpha. Egg651 brought me over here. I am an American, so don't hate me too much.

11-06-2011, 02:25 PM
As a memory exercise for myself and despite it being of no interest at all to anyone else - Here is a (chronological by platform) list of every game that I've ever played and genuinely loved in the same way that you could love a record or a book or a movie:

Sega megadrive:
Sonic the Hedgehog
Street Fighter II
Bushido Blade
Quake 3 + Team Arena, Urban Terror, True Combat and Quake Live
Air Buccaneers (bought and installed UT2004 just to play this)
System Shock 2
Ghost Recon
BF1942 + Desert combat
Bad Company 2

The Question
13-06-2011, 12:30 PM
Hello! I'm Nathan, but when I'm shooting people (and also on forums) I'm The Question. Been reading RPS for ever so long now, and since I'm putting off doing anything constructive (but have already finished Duke Nukem Forever) I thought I ought to sign up to the forums.

While I do love the PC, it'll never replace the Speccy in my heart.

13-06-2011, 10:57 PM
My names Dave and I'm an alcoholic! Oh shi... that jokes already been done a million times! So yeah i like general FPSness getting drunk and reading RPS not always in that order!

14-06-2011, 10:03 AM
Hi, I'm Jeremy and I like drinking and gaming. Together or separately, whichever works.

A Delicate Balance
14-06-2011, 02:17 PM
I am A Delicate Balance. Or just Balance. I live with my wife in Toronto - moved here 8 years ago from the UK. I play Men of War and Team Fortress 2 amongst other things, but have been spending too much time on my own playing games and it's starting to drive me bonkers. I'm looking forward to some time when my time is more balanced between games and other activities so I can play games because I really want to, not just to pass some more time.

15-06-2011, 02:00 AM
Over here from another site, mousing around for a new gaming "home". I've read reviews from here before.
