View Full Version : Fallen Enchantress

Anyone playing this? It's come a long way from the beta and it's actually quite nice to see a game grow in character over the past 6 months especially when it had a lot to prove. The campaign is actually quite enjoyable albeit without some direction at times. Looks like Stardock have made up for the disaster that was WoM.

I'm playing it.

So far, for me, its my game of the year.

It's actually quite bizzare seeing a game like E:WOM (Which really wasn't that good) slowly become E:FE (Which appears to be what I hoped it would). Both have nearly the same graphics and come from the same place and yet they are both so different.

I don't wan't to sing it's praises too much though until I have completed a playthrough. But I'm guessing it's better than the beta (It is so far) and the Beta was a lot of fun all the way through the game.

You say a lot of acronyms that mean nothing and "Fallen Enchantress" sounds like a fantasy roleplay porn flick.

I am going to look it up now obviously, but I'm going to be disappointed with expectations like that, aren't I?

[Edit]Yeah, I was.

I've been looking forward to it and playing it for months, but my backlog is too big right now.

But I actually thought (and still think) Elemental was salvageable, so I might be biased :p

Correction, they mean nothing to you.

To me, they meant exactly what they should mean, which is good because otherwise I would have just been babbling incoherantly.

With XCOM and this you need a completely free month to get the most out of them =p

No, you dont need much time for XCOM, its over pretty quickly.

The team released a downloadable spellbook today. It can be a handy resource, or just something cool to look at. :)

I'll probably get around to it eventually, but I already grabbed Endless Space and Warlock: Master of the Arcane this year, so I'm not really in a rush for another 4X game just yet. It's on my radar, but I'm okay with waiting a little while before diving in.

I've been following elemental since the original WoM debacle.
I'm a big stardock fan (played Galactic civilization 2 A LOT) and was awaiting WoM impatiently and as everybody was very disapointed when it actually came out. I've been following Fallen enchantress since it was announced and I started playing it a couple days ago.

So far it's a lot of fun. As you said it really seems to be everything we expected out of WoM: great 4X strategy with some RPG elements and a lot of customization both in the game generation (faction/sovereign/map/enemies) and in the game itself (champions/ unit design)

Also the fact that stardock gave away $4Million by giving FE for free to those that had bought WoM (100k games !!!) is quite fantastic and shows Stardock's dedication to its players.

The more often than not quite enjoyable Three Moves Ahead podcast on strategy games has today uploaded an episode about this game. Potentially interesting if you want to learn more about the game.

Episode 192: Fallen Enchantress with Derek Paxton
October 30, 2012
Derek Paxton comes back to the show to talk with Tom, Rob, Bruce, and Troy about Fallen Enchantress, his massive revision of 2010's Elemental: War of Magic. He explains how he started reshaping Elemental, and how the project grew along the way. Tom is already a big fan, and even suggests that Fallen Enchantress may be close to Master of Magic-levels of greatness. Rob and Troy are a bit more reserved, and some arguments break out over diplomacy, the early game, and the tactical combat. Derek details his thinking on each of those points, and goes a long way to explaining why Fallen Enchantress works the way it does.

I finished a four-part AAR of my third game of Fallen Enchantress last week. If anyone's curious how it plays, that's as good a resource as any, I reckon.

Overall, I liked it a lot. There are some rough edges, but some of their planned improvements look like they address my hangups.

Hi everyone,

I just started a new Let's Play series of Fallen Enchantress.
This time I play on a large map an Expert difficulty against 5 opponents and I made sure that the faction that I played in my first LP is one of my opponents so it should use the custom units I designed for it.
Here is a link to the first video:
