Second time watching 13 assassins..Really awesome movie.
Second time watching 13 assassins..Really awesome movie.
I just watched 2 movies last night. End of Watch which was good, not as good as i was expecting though. and Savages, which was okay. i usually like Oliver Stones movies very much but this wasn't one of his best at all.
Just saw CSA: Confederate States of America
Hilarious in one way, thought provoking on another and a bit naive on other.
It is American movie featuring fictional British documentary about history of Confederate America being aired on American TV. It is alternative history movie.
It assumes that if South won, slavery would prevail to this day. In modern world, in first world country slavery cannot be common. It makes no economical sense even if it made moral and social.
In some fields, like military, drug manufacture, sex, highly hazardous industries it is possible for slavery to exists. Otherwise the more industrial nations became the less there was need for slave labor. Reason why North abandoned it while South did not.
Other than that, it was actually very good movie describing the attitudes of slave owners and extrapolating them to our time.
Do recommend it.
Watched Men In Black 3. it was okay. I thought Josh Brolin did a great job portraying Agent K (tommy lee jones), he even sounded like him. Jemaine Clement was also very entertaining. and Bill Hader was pretty funny as Andy Warhol. I would recommend it if you don't have anything better to do.
I watched Frankenweenie last night.
It was okay, I guess. It has a good start and finish, but loses it pace for a while in the middle. My girlfriend didn't like it very much, despite being very fond of animated movies in general.
I don't think the stop-motion worked out very well for 3D effects. It kinda felt like playing a game with low FPS.
I saw War Of Arrows yesterday, korean movie set in 1600 something, they fought with bows whole movie,so awesome!
Also watched The Burrowers, underrated movie, check it out,was quite decent.
Brave, Casino Royale and Finding Forrester.
Watched Brave with my brother last night and I thought it was good. Nothing much, story-wise but it's quite a decent mother-daughter movie in a gorgeous setting. Could've been better if it was about Merida without the princess and mother-daughter thing more about her adventures, IMO.
Casino Royale was great as always. I've watched that movie more or less six times and I don't think it ever gets old every time I watched it. Especially that fucking chase scene in the beginning.
Finding Forrester, like Casino Royale, never gets old. You'll probably like it if you love books and learning about the English language in general. The soundtrack in this movie is just great.
The Dark Knight Rises (2012). Pretty disappointing. It sort of has all the ingredients needed, drama, action, silly plot twist, but it just feels rather flat in general.
Battlestar Galactica: The Plan (2009). I'd just watched all four seasons of BSG so it was rather obvious how many clips they'd taken from the series and cobbled together in the movie. It's not bad, and it does clear up a few things, but it's a tad too thin.
Introduced my parents to Daniel Craig as James Bond in Casino Royale. Sigh.
Aside from my mum already deciding she didn't like the film ("I'm sorry, he doesn't look like Bond!") she unsurprisingly didn't like it. "[Song (You Know My Name)] is awful!" "Where's the theme?" "This isn't a Bond film." "Well...it had nice scenery." I'm so utterly disappointed that she didn't give it a chance. It's good because it's not a Bond film. It's better! My dad was slightly more optimistic, actually going into the film interested to see it, but not having already decided on its quality. Whilst he couldn't hear the song, he liked the film, although did recognise that it was very different and not very 'Bondy'.
I then tried to explain that there's a reason it wasn't a traditional Bond film, mostly because Die Another Day was fucking appalling and the entire bunch includes a few with questionable quality, to say the very least. That it was also a reboot, hence why some things only appear so often. I, for one, loved that there were little nods to the Bond theme whenever he did something Bondish, but it was never fully blown until he had become it.
Urgh. Anyhow, Casino Royale; excellent Bond film, excellent film, do watch it if you haven't already.
Hah, parents right? ;p
My mom doesn't really like action movies in general because they're too loud and unbelievable, she did like the Sherlock Holmes movies though!
My dad loves the bond movies and anything with boats in it.
Funnily enough, my mum rather enjoys certain action films, so long as they don't try to take themselves too seriously. She kept saying throughout CR that "It reminds me of Die Hard." I...can't at all agree, although I can see where she was coming from. It also helps that Die Hard is brilliant, which reminds me that it's about a month away from watching the best Christmas film!
Yeah the trailer looked super fun, can't wait!
She was referring specifically to the action scenes. I don't think she likes to see Bond being hit or being anything other than a suave hit-man. She likes Die Hard, although not massively. I liked seeing Bond take a hit or take some punishment and the way it was done in CR made it very guttural. When he took a hard landing, you damn well felt it.
Cabin in the Woods was pretty darn good. Most enjoyable.
The Raid was one of the best action movies I've seen in a while.
Now I'm just waiting for Skyfall and Dredd to make it to Japan (though it looks like the latter won't). Hoping to catch the LOTR movies in the cinema again before the hobbit release too... gonna be bankrupt in december!
My parents borrowed Memento off me but gave up half way through. Can't really blame them, it took me two viewings just to get the basics, and I gained something new from every viewing after. To a lesser degree I watched Hot Fuzz again recently and am still discovering the occasional joke I had missed.
The End Of Watch,it was quite good movie, fairly realistic as well. Only that near the end shooting sequence was not realistic if you know what i mean (Firing AK..).
