in terms of game design, you're basically playing a paid alpha with these games
it's not actually an alpha because they do have some degree of quality assurance for runtime bugs and crashes and...

skyrim is awful at everything. it's like oblivion for 5-year-olds, and that's saying a lot considering how dumbed down oblivion itself is
turn-based strategy (more about strategy. less about calculating/memorizing things)
so games like civilization (i was a civ4 master). not games like chess.
basically anything where you are...
civ6, not so much
civ6 is more like a city-builder, following in the footsteps of civ5:BNW. you spend all your time and energy on all these tiny inconsequential solitaire uninteractive things while pretending to play...
maybe they'res no business model for more hardcore games with AAA budgets, but the fact remains that they're being dumbed down because they need to sell too many copies
$60 is too low of a price for some of the bigger games
they have to dumb everything down to mass market so that they can sell many millions instead of just making a quality game that sells a few...

the galciv2 game configuration settings determine when you run out of colonizable land
i think the best way is to have about a dozen habitable planets per player, and half of those being something...
i thought the pvp looked promising. it was hyped to be kind of like quake X tribes
i didn't play it beyond closed alpha though (i'm not a MMO player)
we need more fast FPS games!

it's pretty short-sighted
civ is a multiplayer game where most people decide to play against AI opponents instead of humans
i don't want to deal with people being confused about which players...

sometimes a mediocre game is your only option
turn-based strategy is basically full of garbage, but if you want to play a real strategy game you might end up playing garbage for thousands of hours...
because it's about skateboarding

i can't think of any
games just aren't universal enough
maybe FTL if I had to pick something
possibly quake 3 arena if you extend it to 20 years instead of 5, but even that's pretty...
civ 6 is probably going to be an improved civ5
play civ4 though. civ6 won't replace it
it's a console game made by people who probably never played doom or quake
it's quite literally a bunch of halo/call of duty players being assigned to make a doom game
12-04-2016, 08:09 AM
i buy a few every year, but when they always fail to be better than doom (1993/1994) i don't know why i keep doing it

i don't know of any modern MMO that's just a single game
there can be the real MMO with artificial delays that players wait for and there are other things to do in it for the people who play it...

did you just wake up from a 15-year coma?
the idea that there are tons of people playing RTS games (at least in multiplayer) is a fantasy. moba isn't rts fyi
there's a lot wrong with the rest...

the base-building term is just referring to the resource management decisions (which tend to originate from your "base" in the UI), even if it doesn't make any English sense
it wasn't as good as far cry 1 (SP) or crysis (MP), but it could be fun if you made it fun and i wish we got more games like it rather than linear scripted call of uncharted: corridors of battle or...

you can't really strip out the resource-management (which is the strategy part of real-time strategy) and just leave the tactics
build orders are a problem when they are the same every time and...
28-03-2016, 07:44 PM
well, the decision-making that doesn't devolve to fast-paced tactics involves the resource management and overall strategy. "how do I balance spending between expansion and technology and military?"...

i'm not saying micromanagement is bad - just that people aren't going to make enough of those games for the subgenre to be considered "alive"
i've played tens of thousands of hours of traditional...

RTS will continue to exist as the only genre where you can see and control really massive battles
if someone who isn't a noob decides to make one of these games one day, then the side effect of...
you could play a flag-capper in tribes
or just play free for all in multiplayer and don't camp powerups
most single player campaigns have a lot of stopping
some games have a sort of separate...
