These days? Check out today's Wikipedia's featured article, it has some relevance (beheading part at least).

"Mob of people in remote region go crazy when they see obvious crime committed in public."
"Don't stab a soccer player to death in front of thousands of soccer fans."

quartered. Explaining it has totally ruined it now though.

Crazy stuff, it's an even more extreme case of the tragic death of a referee in junior football in Holland that was widely reported on a while ago.
Crazy that some people take things so seriously. In this case I can't believe that the ref was carrying a knife. Madness.

Honestly, I don't blame the ref for carrying a knife. People take this crap WAY too seriously and, as mentioned, a while back a ref got beaten to death because a player didn't like the call. And this ref retaliated after being struck, so there IS an argument for self defense (I would have to see the video to be certain, and I have no interest in watching a snuff film).
That being said: There are much better weapons to use in self-defense and if you are going to use a weapon in self-defence it is your responsibility to use the legally acceptable amount of force.Steam: Gundato

For what it's worth, I have been unable to find *any* Brazilian news sites with this story, so I'd take it with a pinch of salt, since if it were true our news would be all over it.

It's real. Don't look for the autopsy video. I can never help myself with these things, and I always regret it.
