Guild Wars 2 Beginner's Aid: Which profession is best for you?
Guild Wars 2 has been live for almost two months now. While the game is irrefutably aging, a lot of newbies are still coming in to play.
This thread is primarily designed to help newcomers get started at once.
Guild War 2 players are given with eight distinct professions to choose from: Engineer, Necromancer, Thief, Elementalist, Warrior, Ranger, Mesmer and Guardian. Each of them is equipped with unique powers, healing abilities and devastating assaults.
To enjoy a profession for a long time, it is highly recommended to choose a profession according to your personality and play style. Doing so will help you save time and progress in the game quicker.

Don't buy the bags or weapons from NPC vendors.
Go to the trading post directly.
There are no random statistics to every weapon.
It's always X/Y/Z amount of stat/stat/stat, depending on rarity.
Legendaries don't differ in damage from Exotics.
If you are a casual, aim for rare set after a week of dungeon at level 80.
Course, you can craft exotics.
Gem prices will continue to increase. So if you really want to unlock bank slots n char slots - do it now before Xmas comes.
