Best Mods for Half Life 2?
I just received a copy of Half Life 2 from a nice member on the Kindness Thread. One of the reasons I wanted this game was because of the amazing mods I've seen for this game. As soon as i get finished playing the actual game I'm gonna be trying out some of them that I already have in mind.
But what are some of your favorites?
p.s. if you could also leave a link to where i could download the mod, that'd be awesome. thanks!

Dystopia was pretty sweet back when I used to play it. Cyberpunk team objective-based action with cyberspace hacking, implants and whatnot. Fun, nice theme and great production values (at least in the original maps; the later ones were still good but didn't seem as slick somehow).

Mod-wise, HL2 actually ended up being pretty weak. It was the tail end of the "Let's just mod the crap out of every game" craze. And most of the really good ones have actually become standalone games.
But if you like the gunplay and want a fun story, try Minerva
If you want me on either service, I suggest PMing me here first to let me know who you are.

HL2 marked the point when the expected quality of art assets went through the roof, and a lot of mod teams couldn't really match it. It's easier to work on MP mods because there's no requirement for digital acting or anything like that, so a lot of them are multiplayer mods. Mapping and modding declined with the HL2/D3 era unfortunately. Also the pipeline was (still is) atrocious.
That said Missing Information is great for a look at what HL2 might have been but last I saw the public release hadn't been updated for ages. Minerva as suggested by gundato definitely wasn't bad either. Some of the MP mods were good but I don't know if they still get regular playtime compared to the juggernauts like TF2. A lot of the more successful ones from the HL era went on to have commercial releases (like NS2).

I highly suggest the FakeFactory mod which can be found here: http://cinematicmod.com/, it will transform Half-Life 2 in to a next generation game. It also features better character high res character models, each character has about 4 versions.

NeoTokyo was really good, their OST was just mindblowing for me.
Cinematic mod,you can keep HL2 alyx so no need for crying, also you can disable that awful bloom so you only have high res textures which are quite nice.

The only Half life 2 mod I consider essential reading. All the other mp mods were choked to death by feature creep.
One guy who looks like a shimmer of the predator (as in the movies) who can leap huge distances and kill with a single hit or eat killed opponents for health versus 4-8 other guys have a mix of assault weaponry.
The 4-8 are very much the prey

If you want a good single-player mod, try Get A Life. It's a but rough around he edges but really awesome and long (took me about 10 hours to beat)

Misdirection and trickery are the hidden best tools, that and hanging corpses from the ceiling like meat.

Minerva was exceptionally good, although I can't recall whether I played all of it. Think it came in three equally generously sized portions.

Zombie Panic!: Source is good too.
SMOD and GMOD obviously. Missing Information too. Eclipse.
Half Life 2 definitely isn't a poor modding scene.

They're not forcing you to use new alyx, you can freely keep the original model.
