Thread: CivIV - Fall from Heaven 2 PBEM

I tried to hop on the server three times, but I timed out the three times.

yup, tried it a few more times, same here. I assume it is due to the fact multiple people try to connect and it dies? not sure.

It's telling me I'm out of sync. Good start?

I have a save from before anyone joined. The sync thing seems to be a common issue with FFH, there's a dll file floating around that's supposed to fix it. What I don't know is whether the connection problems are related. Riadsala was able to connect so I'm unsure what the issue is for you two.

I saw something that it can be due to two reasons, either it's two people try to log in at the same time and it dies. Or it is due to a reconnect problem with your firewall. You can connect once, but not twice.

Any idea how to test that? I've had no problem hosting direct connection civ and other games in the past.

Host it again and I will see if I can join, disconnect and rejoin.
Maybe this helps: http://apolyton.net/showthread.php/1...nection-Issues

It sounds like More Naval AI offers improved multiplayer: "Any and all bug fixes for base FFH that have been made known to me have been fixed (to the best of my ability and/or my ability to find the fix elsewhere). There are no known crashing or hangup bugs in this mod. This mod is extremely stable and turn times are relatively quick. If anyone discovers any OOS issues during multiplayer, please report them in this thread."
So I suggest we maybe want to try again, using this mod?

That post is referring to P2P games through gamespy, only the router configuration on my end should be relevant here, and I'm 99% sure it's right.
I've saved and restarted the server, if you want to try connecting again.

nope, not working, still timed out.
PBEM? (might be just due to the mod and stuff that pittboss isn't working)

I vote for trying a new game, using the Navel AI and Pitboss, as pitboss should be a lot faster than PBEM :)

I'm happy to try that. I can have a new game up in 30 minutes or so, once I've had my somewhat late dinner. If that fails we can do PBEM.
Naval mod seems like a good idea regardless, the sync issues are present in PBEM as well as pitboss.

I've hosted a new game using the naval mod. Same address and password.

PBEM it is then, I'm out of ideas. Riadsala hosting?

Dropbox turns PBEM into a fairly seamless thing.I am once again writing a blog, vaguely about playing games the wrong way

We'll still be using that Naval AI mod? if it fixes so many bugs and doesn't actually add new content Ias it seems it'd probably be a good idea.

Yes, I think so. Vanilla FFH still has out of sync problems with PBEM.

It's to bad, but it tends to happen a lot with FfH2 and besides, pitboss itself isn't as stable as well. Back to PBEM it is then.
I assume Riadsala will now be the game master. In that case, it might be wise to send him the details he needs to work with so he can set it up as soon as possible.
