Here We Go Again… Ubi DRM Really Cracked?

So claim hacker collective Skidrow, at any rate. It's all been a bit quiet on this once-frenetic front for a couple of weeks, but the war is very much back on it, seems. (Also, watching Twitter today, I've seen several folk with Splinter Cell: Conviction PC review code alleging that they're being unfairly dragged to a menu screen a little too often. Nothing says "dynamic…

Ubisoft Says Server Downtime Due To Attacks

Ubisoft have told Eurogamer that yesterday's DRM server outages were caused by external attacks, and that they did not affect 95% of players. "Servers were attacked and while the servers did not go down, service was limited from 2.30pm to 9pm Paris time," they explained to the big EG. They also apologise to those who were affected by this, explaining that they represented only 5%…

Ubisoft’s DRM Servers Broken All Day

Ubisoft's servers have been down/overloaded for around the last ten hours, making it impossible for people in some parts of the world to play Assassin's Creed II. Which is certainly not amusing if you're someone who bought the game despite the DRM (that requires constant connection to their servers), and trusted that Ubisoft would not allow something like this to happen. Especially not in the…

Unsilent Hunter: UbiDRM Not Sunk After All?

It is the year 2138. Since the terrible conclusion of the great war between Simon Cowell's X-tremes and Charlie Brooker's Tweetonauts, humanity has been at peace. And, for the first time in 131 years, the PC gaming website Rock, Paper, Shotgun passes an entire week without mentioning DRM. That's then, but this is now - and UbiGate continues apace. Yesterday, seemingly cracked versions of Silent…

The Year Ahead, Part One

Below is the first part of our intricate guide for PC gaming in 2010. There's a horde of muscular-looking titles on the horizon, many of them likely to stop you and demand your money, like ludological bandits. Meanwhile, others that we expected to land, such The Old Republic, have already fled to 2011. Read on as the clouds in our crystal ball roll back...

Euro-Words: Torchlight, Assassin’s Creed 2

Back from a quasi-week in foreign climes, I return to discover Eurogamer has published some writing they recklessly hired me to write. There's a preview of Assassin's Creed 2, detailing what I found when I nosed at the first couple of hours of the game, and perhaps more interestingly, there's my review of Torchlight. In it, I claim that absolutely everything Walker said it about…

AssCreed TV

We may not get Assassin's Creed 2 on PC for a few months yet, due to spurious excuses to pretend it's not about dodging piracy and not giving a monkey's about the IBM compatible, but there's no reason we can't enjoy the promotional run-up. For instance, 15 minutes of live-action footage of a dude being a 15th century Italian assassin, by way of a prequel…

Jumpy Stabby: Assassin’s Creed II Footage

A few new bits and pieces on Assassin's Creed have appeared, partly in the form of a preview by GameTrailers, and partly in an architecture video from German site Gamerglotze.de. You can see both of them below, learning a bit more about the background behind the new central character and his motivations, and see a lot more of the city that you'll be clambering all…

Huge Assassin’s Creed 2 Walkthrough

Head south for a sprawling walkthrough of Assassin's Creed 2, courtesy of Destructoid. As well as detailing some of sprawling renaissance city, it shows loads of interesting mechanistic stuff such as purchasing equipment with the money you've earned, exploring secret locations, hiring mercenaries to fight guards for you, distracting people by throwing coins, and so on. There's also fun-looking chase sequence. So the missions do…

E3 09: Assassin’s Creed II Dev Walkthrough

"More variety" seems to be the mantra uttered by the Assassin's Creed II development team, and we get to see some of that variety in this new walkthrough. It's the bulk of an entire assassination sequence from the game, and possibly one of the high points, so beware spoilers if you're definitely going to buy into the dude-slaying sequel. Venice certainly looks impressive, and hopefully…
