Witchy woods, drifting crystals, and alien sunrises in Connor Sherlock’s new collection

Walking simulator wizard Connor Sherlock has released a new collection of his splendid strolls, visiting five forbidden places for five dollars. I adore exploring his worlds, crossing vast lurid landscapes and poking at fragments of civilisations as my ears fill with his synth soundtracks wailing and warbling like 70s sci-fi and horror movies. Good, yeah? Good.

Connor Sherlock’s Walking Simulator A Month Club collection visits a lot of strange places for $5

Connor Sherlock makes some of my favourite walking simulators these days. With bold colours, vast scale, and his cracking retro synth soundtracks, they explore strange places it often feels we really shouldn't be in. I've wandered through mysterious structures on the surface of a comet, through caves and catacombs, and down the valleys beyond a walled kingdom, I've rocketed around megastructures and even had a…

Horror walk-o-story Marginalia remade and respookified

On Halloween, there are few places I'd rather be than in a Connor Sherlock forest. Often contrasting darkness with lurid colours and laying ace retro horror synth soundtracks over the top, he creates places where people shouldn't be. He never has jumpscares or monsters, just creeping wrongness. On Halloween in 2014 I was playing Marginalia, a horror walk-o-story he made with Cameron Kunzelman, and this…

Krypton Comet offers trek across a strange spacescape

Game developer Connor Sherlock sent me Krypton Comet, the latest in his series of monthly walking sims (it's a subscription service he's running as a Patreon). It was an email exchange pretty much entirely based on my writing about Narcosis which is a game with a similar colour palette. I am very into this as a form of game recommendations, by the way, and it…

Dark Obelisks Await In Free Horror Walking Sim Sanctuary

Connor Sherlock's games often remind me of slow, dready horror movies from the '70s, the sort of oddball thing you might catch at 3am on a Friday night then spend years trying to remember the name of. From ghost stories in the woods to eerie deep space encounters with deserted alien ships, he's happy to let things unfold slowly and build unease. It's part pacing,…

In A Dark, Dark Wood: Spooky Story Marginalia

What spooky use do you have for £3.13 this Halloween night? A bag of Haribo Fangtastics, a Screme Egg, and a can of Stella? Oh you could buy that, you could. You might also quite like Marginalia. It's a spooky trip into some spooky woods with a spooky tale narrated by a spooky/quite pleasant man and spooky music. It's got a few problems, but if…

Wot I Think: TRIHAYWBFRFYH

Its full name being 'The Rapture Is Here And You Will Be Forcibly Removed From Your Home', but there's about as much chance as that fitting into our post title space as there is my being clean shaven for any reason except a funeral. It's an exploration game, created by one Connor Sherlock (and what a fabulous name that is), set during an unspecified end…
