FIFA is that game series I play while the rest of RPS shake their heads and sigh slightly. FIFA Ultimate Team is the mode I spend money on, using real currency to buy virtual football stickers which heal bruises on virtual footballer's thighs, while the rest of RPS wrestle me to the ground and try to get the debit card out of my hand before…

Feature: Injury Time
“I’ve been playing FIFA competitively since 09 but it's only as of about January this year I learned to control my aggression towards it,” says David Bytheway. Bytheway, a competitive FIFA player from Wolverhampton, reached last year’s FIFA Interactive World Cup final in Rio De Janeiro, but fell at the last hurdle to Denmark’s August Rosenmeier. The game finished 3-1 with Bytheway squandering a first…

Foot-to-ball isn't actually on the list of "things I do not understand". I followed it closely for a few years in the mid nineties so I'm not a stranger to how the game works. My reference points, however, are outdated and weirdly specific and I have never played FIFA. This post about FIFA Ultimate Team player updates can only go well then…N.B. Usually Graham would…
Feature: Muddled Thoughts
FIFA is a game you play co-operatively with your computer. This is true of any game, of course; there is no play without the computer's reaction to your inputs. But FIFA requires that you steer eleven footballers in real-time around a pitch you can see less than a third of at any given moment. To make that possible, you're reliant on the computer to take hold…
Our Adam often writes posts about EA's FIFA games, but as he's off on holiday this week (sitting in a quiet, dark room, for all I know), I'll have a crack at this one. Hey there, FIfans! (I imagine that's the term.) EA yesterday released a FIFA 15 demo, so we might finally answer the question on all of our lips: have they managed to…
FIFA 15 Highlights The Emotional Intelligence Of Footballers
There's a point in the life cycle of any EA Sports series where, pressured by the need for new yearly features, the game dashes away from the reality of its simulated sport and straight into fantasy. In the old Tiger Woods golf games, that was being struck by lightning to charge up supershots. In FIFA 15, it's positing a world in which footballers have something…

FIFA 15 Trailer Highlights “Visible Breathing”, “Visible Mud”
There's little I like more than chatting with my co-workers about videogames. Why, it was just earlier today that Adam turned to me and asked, "Hey Graham, what's your favourite gameplay feature?" I responded with something typically pithy, remarking that "My favourite gameplay features is the incredible visuals. For example the whole new level of visuals which bring fully realised arenas with Living Pitches to…
FIFA 15 is a game that I will definitely play. The latest entry in EA's endless foot-to-ball series will bring the PC version in-line with the next-gen console releases, finally giving us the new physics and graphics engine that console players received last year. It'll also bring one of E3's most hyperbolic trailers, which is embedded below alongside a thousand whiny complaints from me.
For a long time, FIFA games on PC lagged behind their console counter-parts. Then FIFA 11 came out and brought the joy of parity; the PC version was finally the same as the 360 and PS3 releases, with the maximum number of realistic brick falls, awkward tumbling hugs and imprecise auto-passes that the series could muster. Unfortunately FIFA 14 eventually followed and the world was…
