The Humble Care Package Bundle packs Stardew Valley, Her Story and more

It seems IGN's recent purchase of Humble Bundle hasn't compromised their ability to put together a pack of awesome games. For the next 5 days, The Humble Care Package Bundle offers 27 games--including Stardew Valley, Darkest Dungeon, and Pony Island--for $30 and all of the money is going to emergency relief charities, which makes this one well worth checking out.

Have You Played… Magicka?

Have You Played? is an endless stream of game retrospectives. One a day, every day, perhaps for all time. QFQFSAA + M2. I just made a double steam arcane double lightning beam, and now you’re dead. Oh, you were on my team? Crap. Magicka does away with mana and cooldowns, allowing up to four wizards to cast spells as quickly as they can hammer on…

Helldivers: Magicka Devs’ Co-op Shooter Coming To PC

With Magicka, Arrowhead Game Studios showed when four well-meaning but inept wizards try to save the world: co-op antics with a whole load of fun and friendly fire. Surely four sci-fi futuresoldiers would fare better? Ha ha. Good news, fans of friendly fire: Arrowhead are bringing their Helldivers [official site] over to PC next month. Released on assorted PlayThings in March, it's a twin-stick shooter…

Spelling It Out For You: Magicka 2 Has Launched

There’s something about Magicka’s sense of humour that makes the series instantly likeable. The first game and all of its DLC was daft and fun and refused to take itself seriously. It helped that it was a cracking good game, as well. Judging from the Magicka 2 [official site] launch trailer, the sequel looks to follow the same vein. Only 96 seconds long and I…

Magicka – Wizard Wars review

After a year of Early Access, Magicka: Wizard Wars [official site] has finally graduated from Hogwarts. We've already shared our thoughts on various versions of the game but there's still plenty to say about this maybe-a-MOBA and its complex combo-based elemental magic system. Here's wot I think.

Hands On: Magicka 2

The first time I killed one of my teammates, it was an accident. The second time may have been an accident as well. The third time was definitely deliberate and after that, the relationship was one of mutual murdering. Magicka 2 [official site] is a brilliant, challenging cooperative game about killing your friends.

Magicka 2 Hands On: How To Refine Slapstick Co-Op

I have accidentally killed Peter Cornelius. I have accidentally killed him several times and this has included (but is not limited to) the time that I launched a rock at his head, the time that I electrocuted him and the time that I pushed him off a cliff. On each and every occasion it was an accident and I don't think I was entirely in…

Magicka 2: New Footage, Also A Singalong Why Not

I appreciate anything that carves out a space for itself to be daft, and Magicka has long been entertaining with its silly wizards, clumsy co-op violence and self-deprecating trailers. This latest video for Magicka 2 is by far the oddest yet. Come for the new footage of wizards slaying magical beasts with beam-weapons, stay for the retro karaoke-video-style.

Spellcasting S-E-Q-U-E-L: Magicka 2 Announced

Wizard Wars has been scratching my mischief and magic itch for the past few months, but that doesn't diminish my delight at the prospect of a full-blown Magicka sequel. Coming to PS4 as well as PC, the game will contain four player co-op, a story-based campaign and 'relationship-testing friendly fire'. Paradox apparently have each of their studios working on a PS4 game (presumably for PC…

Cat And Mouse: A Tale Of Magicka – Wizard Wars

Pride comes before a fall. Worse, actually. In this game, pride comes before a meteor shower to the face, an icy blast to the particulars and a death ray to the heart. Magicka: Wizard Wars continues to entertain me on a daily basis but it has been cruel to me these past weeks and I can't help but feel that I brought some of the…

The Kingdoms Bundle Is Strategically Impressive

The extent of my knowledge and understanding of strategy games is the breadth of smile they create on little Adam Smith's cherubic face. So glancing at Bundle Stars' Kingdoms Bundle, I could see a lovely, warm grin. For £2.18 you get Europa Universalis III Complete, Europa Universalis: Rome Gold Edition, The King's Crusade, Hearts Of Iron III, Sword Of The Stars Complete Collection, and Magicka.

Brazilian Bundle: Super BR Jam

There was a time when I spent most of my day posting about bundles, to the extent that I didn't actually play any new games at all. I'd just list the contents of whatever bundle landed in my inbox, embed a video and check that the 'pay what you want' offer actually let people submit less than a dollar. Then I'd hit the publish button…

Tablets And Terrors: Magicka Expands

Most games would be content to play host to a series of Wizard Wars and frantic tactical multiplayer arena combat is almost certainly the focus of Magicka's immediate future, but the wizards at Paradox have a few other tricks up their sleeves, and hidden beneath their robes. First up is the Dungeons and Gargoyles DLC, a continuation of Dungeons & Daemons. There's a trailer for…

Hands On With Magicka: Wizard Wars

I don't think anything else has quite gripped me in the same way this year. The current version of Magicka: Wizard Wars features only one map, and is suffering some network woes, but the Early Access release of Paradox's arena-PvP reboot of slapstick spell-combinating hit Magicka is shaping up to be a triumph. Let me combine the magic of words with the arcane energies of…

Magicka: Wizard Wars Is Available Via Early Access

UPDATE: I am having trouble connecting to games, seems it might be over-subscribed. And I am going to jump right in, so expect some thoughts on it soon. I've been itching to get my hands on Magicka: Wizard Wars - Paradox's pared down team combat version of Magicka - since I saw it in action at GDC earlier in the year, and I believe it…

Hell’s Spells: Magicka – Wizard Wars Alpha Signups

I killed all of my friends when playing Magicka. Sometimes I even did it on purpose. Fingers dancing across keys to program arcane combinations into a staff, which then unleashes...something. Maybe a flaming boulder that is determined to explode, perhaps a jet of steam that sears the skin off any sorcerers in its path. If Magicka were a fighting game, slipping up slightly mid-combo would…

After DC DOTA, A Magicka MOBA: Wizard Wars

Moments ago, Warner announced the existence of a DC Comics MOBA called Infinite Crisis and Paradox have now announced the existence of a Magicka MOBA called Wizard Wars. Unfortunately, I haven't managed to learn everything there is to know about the genre in between those announcements so I'm just going to copy some words from the press release and pop the live action trailer below.…

Join Magicka’s Free Weekend Birthday Party

As the ice-god Wulþuz is exacting his revenge on the blasé warm bodies of Britain, it might be a good idea to sort yourself out with a game this weekend. You might get dripped on. You might nearly slip! Why even give yourself the option of leaving the house when you could be inside and away from the icy danger? You could just plug your…

Less Magick, More Muscle: Arrowhead’s Showdown Effect

The last we heard of The Showdown Effect, the new side-scrolling and cartoony shootybangbang game from the makers of the reliably silly Magicka, was back in April. Now, it's spooling up its beta-testing mini-gun, and hopes to lure in passers-by by revelling shamelessly in as many action movie cliches as it can conjure up. CONJURE LIKE IN MAGICKA.

Conjuring For The Gold: Magicka’s Olympics-Themed DLC

I think we've all - at some point or another - turned on the television during a major sporting event and thought to ourselves "You know what? If I really put my nose to the grindstone and trained like a madman, I too could be an almighty elemental demigod wizard." But that also sounds hard. And to that, I raise you videogames - specifically Magicka,…
