Red Dead Redemption 2’s stuttering issues have a workaround in 1.14 patch

Update: Rockstar have patched Red Dead Redemption 2 again, expanding their 1.14 patch notes with lots more detail of various stability fixes that have come to the cowboy game. The apology for the rocky launch and the free items for RDR2 Online players mentioned below are nice, but presumably not as nice as the game gradually smoothing out its wrinkles. In a separate update linked…

This mod lets you roam Red Dead Redemption 2 as any beast you want

Red Dead Redemption 2 is finally here, bringing its sweeping vistas of the American west to PC. Rubbish, then, that you're expected to experience the natural splendour of the rolling plains as an old man with a pound of gravel in his throat. Fortunately, thanks to the work of modders, one download and a few save edits are all it takes to swap those hands…

Red Dead Redemption 2’s 1.14 update finally fixed our launcher woes

So far, Red Dead Redemption 2’s hardest mission has been to get it to work. A fair few folk have been unable to get beyond the new Rockstar Launcher, a crime punishable by tickling in these here parts. If you’ve suffered, you might want to give it a try now. The latest update fixed the launcher trouble for our hardware editor Katharine Castle, who can…

Skip the snowy tutorial and trot into town with these Red Dead Redemption 2 saves

Red Dead Redemption 2 has landed on the PC with all the grace of a bow-legged varmint drunk on moonshine. We've seen it first-hand. Hardware Sheriff Katharine headed into her gaming jail, ready to take on the Wild West’s most fearsome settings menu, but there was a crashing sound and a flaming cartwheel came rolling out. There might be some comfort to those of you…

Red Dead Redemption 2’s frequent crashes are putting a stop to wild west antics

Well rustle my hard drive, Red Dead Redemption 2 is finally on PC. Yee-haw, and all that. Thing is, some gunslingers out there are spreading word that this ain't the sturdiest horse they've seen. From loading screen crashes to problems with Rockstar's game launcher, RDR 2 on PC is proving to be a grumpy ol' mule indeed.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now – but not on Steam

Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now on PC, two years after it was first announced on consoles, and just one month after it was confirmed for PC. It's on the Rockstar Games Launcher and Epic Games Store, and will mosey on over to Steam in December. So here we are, one of the largest games ever released and it's treating Steam like a…

Nvidia have come up with a list of graphics cards for playing Red Dead 2 at 60fps and it ain’t purdy

Saddle up cowpokes, because Red Dead Redemption 2 rides out on PC at 1pm UK time today (5am PST). I must admit, I let out a big sigh of relief when I saw Rockstar's PC requirements for Red Dead 2 the other week, as their recommended graphics card topped out at just a 6GB GTX 1060. Easy, I thought. However, Nvidia have just published their…

Things move fast in the games industry, eh? Rockstar told us only four weeks ago that their hugely anticipated Western game Red Dead Redemption 2 was galloping to the PC. Now here we are looking down the long barrel of a launch trailer like a lame horse that bucked when it should have rooed. We’re mere days away from the launch date of November 5th.

With Red Dead Redemption 2 coming to PC in just a few weeks, Rockstar have made a new PC-specific trailer demonstrating the fancy technical features our version benefits from. Red Dead 2 on PC has even lovelier horses for strapping alligators to

Shortly after revealing Red Dead Redemption 2's PC requirements last night, Rockstar went into more detail about the specific PC enhancements that will be yee-hawing their way into the game come November 5th. HDR, "faster frame rates" and support for 4K resolutions and beyond were arguably the biggest headlines from Rockstar's announcement post (still no word on ray tracing, sadly), but let's face it, all…

Red Dead 2’s PC requirements are gonna put a bullet in your SSD

Rockstar have quietly added the PC requirements for Red Dead Redemption 2 to the game's Rockstar Launcher page. The good news? It's not going to murder your PC. The bad news? It will absolutely gobble up your PC's storage banks, as it's currently recommending you keep at least 150GB set aside for it. I know it's a big game and all, but that's another 50GB…

Red Dead Redemption 2 mods already planned by prolific GTA modders

The gang behind Grand Theft Auto V multiplayer mod framework FiveM are already planning something similar for Red Dead Redemption 2, even though the game's not out on PC until November. While RDR 2 has its own multiplayer mode similar to V's GTA Online, the 'RedM' framework should likewise enable all sorts of player-run servers with mods. Most notably, FiveM is behind weird and wonderful…

Red Dead Redemption 2 riding to PC in November

Well yee my haw and buck my roo, Red Dead Redemption 2 is coming to PC. The oh-so-pretty, oh-so-fancy, and oh-so-vapidly-posturing Wild West sandbox shooter hit consoles in October 2018 and I've been expecting it on PC all along because what is this, 2010? No, this is 2019, which means that the release will be staggered across different games stores. The PC debut will be…

Red Dead Redemption 2 may finally be moseying onto PC, suggests Australian ratings board

Rating boards are the bane of games publishers. They're a law unto themselves, with no care for publishers' plans to drip feed us game release details. No. They tell it like it is, to hang with the consequences. And the Australian Classification Board’s website has just heroically listed a new version of Red Dead Redemption 2, hinting that it could be on its way to…

Rockstar launch their own Launcher, offering GTA San Andreas for free

Just when the Epic Games Launcher seemed like it might have been the final salvo in the launcher wars, along come Rockstar Games with a launcher of their own. The imaginatively-named Rockstar Games Launcher lets you launch Rockstar Games games, and also buy them. Okay? And? Why would I want that? Well, Rockstar are hoping to tempt people to install it by initially offering 2004's…

Rockstar North operate within capitalism, says report

Rockstar Games have paid £0 in UK corporation tax over the last ten years, despite making Actual Billions in profit, according to a report released by Taxwatch UK. Rockstar's parent company Take-Two Interactive are using the Video Games Tax Relief provision to legally save an estimated £42,313,047 in corporation tax. Which is what it's for. Sort of.

Take-Two not planning to open own games store

Starting your own digital distribution store is the hot trend amongst big developers and publishers, so I was genuinely surprised to see Take-Two Interactive say that they don't intend to open one. I mean, it would be a bit daft but... that hasn't stopped anyone else so far. No, the parent company of publishers 2K, Grand Theft Auto devs Rockstar, and Civilization crew Firaxis (among…

Rockstar employees speak out against crunch controversy

With talk of crunch and working conditions casting a shadow over Rockstar's console launch of Red Dead Redemption 2 next week, the secretive company also behind Grand Theft Auto seem to have invited employees to speak openly about their experiences. It's an uncharacteristic and curious move, having employees try to clean up a PR mess created by co-founder Dan Houser's thoughtless boast that he and…

Devs highlight their crunch-free games following Rockstar fuss

"Crunch! A-ah!" sang Queen. "Failure of the industry!" Sadly, even Brian Blessed and his black leather horde descending from the skies failed to make a lasting impact on game development. This week, a Rockstar co-founder put his foot in it talking about "100-hour weeks" for some on Red Dead Redemption 2 and Sega's parent company proudly declared that now only some employees work more than…

Red Dead Online announced but still no word on PC release

Red Dead Online has been announced by Rockstar (as if it was ever in doubt) and they say it'll be an "evolution" of the rootin' tootin' multiplayer in the first Red Dead Redemption. In other words, a big online version of the open world in Red Dead Redemption 2, where you can trot about on your pony, buy fashionable spurs, and get shot by ingrates…
