The makers of Street Fighter and Resident Evil have reported that a ne'er-do-well got access to their computer systems this week. That's bad. Luckily for us, they say they've found no hint that the unknown baddie got into customer data. That's good. Though I'll be changing the password of any Capcom account I have, just in case. And this happening so soon after hackers reportedly…
Resident Evil 3

What's a holiday if it doesn't come with a sale on games loosely related to its theme? A terrible trick, which is part of what makes Halloween a real treat—discounts on horror games galore. The Humble Bundle are joining in on spooky sales with their own Halloween offers. Some are, appropriately, horror games. Some others are just vaguely grim, I guess. But hey, they're all…

Here’s a shirtless Carlos mod for Resident Evil 3—you’re welcome
Alright, you've all beat the Resident Evil 3 remake once now, right? Time to add some juicy mods. I've found the perfect one for you to try first. It's a shirtless Carlos Oliveira. You're welcome. It's brought to us by modder "Tzarev" with the simple but effective description: "Carlos' meaty pecs exposed." Yes, quite.
Rumour: Resident Evil 8 will leap out next year in first-person
According to new rumours, Resident Evil 8 will come out next year. It'll be in first-person, says serial leaker AestheticGamer, "and many purists are going to hate it" because "it's taking some serious departures [with] story/enemies and the like".If you believe the rumour, it started life as Revelations 3, a more experimental spin-off game, but testers liked it so much that developers Capcom decided to…
Capcom's shiny new remake of Resident Evil 3 launched this morning, inviting us back to Raccoon City to enjoy the outbreak of zombitis again - now with excellent high-fidelity brands. 1999's game saw the survival horror take on more of an explosion-y action movie vibe and that's amplified in 2020's remake, but it's still pretty trad and relatively rad.
Feature: One Off The List
The human race evolved the facial expression known as the “smile” because we needed a way to silently communicate satisfaction to other members of our species. So we decided to bare our teeth at one another and squint. This stuck, and now even the characters of your favourite digital storyderby are doing it. It’s sort of disgusting, and yet… you know what, I like it.…
Feature: Zombies: they came to town
Resident Evil 3’s fictional brands are more frightening than the monsters
As I wrote in my review of Resident Evil 3, one of my favourite things about the game is the level of detail that's gone into making Raccoon City feel like a real place, despite all but a few streets of it being mysterious blocked off by walls of rubble and trashed police cars. It's a strangely generic location, with that faint sense of white-label,…
Feature: The brute of all evil
Honestly, I’m glad Resident Evil 3 is a short game, because it was really, really, stressful to play. After six hours of it, I was thoroughly jangled, and just wanted a break from things trying to messily dismantle me. Which, to be fair, means it did exactly what I wanted it to do. Before my nerves tattered and I evolved into a Strategy Dad, you…
The Resident Evil Resistance beta is delayed on PC for an unknown time
Resident Evil 3's multiplayer horror mode was meant to have a free beta beginning today. Capcom say that "technical issues" have delayed the beta for PC and PS4 players but not Xbox One, interestingly. They've yet to give an update on when the beta will be available for PC players. Fortunately there's still the regular RE3 demo while we wait.
That up there is Leon from Resident Evil 2 wielding a gnarly lookin' combat knife. Eventually that knife will have bitten one too many zombies and break, leaving ol' Leon in a lurch. In this year's Resident Evil 3 remake, Jill and Carlos will fare much better with their now indestructible knives. Capcom wanted you to always have "something you can rely on."
Resident Evil 3 opens a slice of Raccoon City in today’s free demo
A deadly outbreak, broken quarantine, a malevolent pharmaceutical company and store shelves utterly devoid of toilet paper. Perhaps Resident Evil 3 is hitting too close to home right now - or perhaps, it's never been more timely. With the RE3 remake's release just weeks away, Capcom have opened the gates to Racoon City a little early with today's free demo. Take on the Nemesis, evade…
The zombie apocalypse may not be the most comforting thing to play through at the moment. Or maybe it will be pleasantly cathartic. You can decide for yourself later this week when the free demo for Jill and Ted's Carlos' horrible adventure through zombie-infested Raccoon City lands on PC. You can take the Resident Evil 3 remake for a spin starting Thursday.

Hot on the heels of the Resident Evil 2 remake from last year, Capcom are releasing the Resident Evil 3 remake in April. Capcom have now shown off the first few minutes of gameplay in an official livestream. I'll warn you now: it's a pretty dang short session. That means no spoilers, if indeed you can spoil a game remake, but not a lot of information either. If…

Feature: 2020 vision
Over the break we had a chance to do some serious scientific study of this business we call games, and it turns out that games are actually good. 2020 in particular has a healthy mix of big budget bonanzas and smaller indie plates to suit everyone's discerning tastes. And, as you know, the RPS treehouse is the most discerning, so to make it easier for…
Continuing their streak of redoing their vintage survival horror series for modern systems, Capcom today announced a "completely reimagined" Resident Evil 3. That's the one from 1999, set during the fall of Raccoon City, where Jill Valentine is chased around by the clomping great mutated Nemesis. Whispers of a RE3 remake have been around for a while so today's announcement isn't a big surprise, but…

Awesome Games Done Quick raises over $2.25 million for charity
Speedruns themselves can be mind-boggling, but it's the community behind them that interests me the most. There's an infectious joy that comes across in every video that's come out of Awesome Games Done Quick, the annual week-long charity speedrunning event that wrapped up over the weekend. It's an event that provides the triple-whammy of heart warming camaraderie, entertaining speedruns and a whopping $2,269,209.96 so far…
