Spintires: MudRunner’s dirty American expansion is out today

Spintires: MudRunner is Euro Truck Simulator for people who want to get caked in mud while they scream at the ground, demanding that it release their hefty vehicle. It’s a filthy game of churning up muck, recklessly charging into rivers and trying to get up slippery slopes while laden with lumber. It’s brilliant. It’s also off to America, which I believe is quite muddy, in…

Spintires: MudRunner’s Steam Workshop adds map support

Probably the main reason to buy Spintires: MudRunner if you already owned the wonderful original is the prospect of ongoing support, of what the game might become under the stewardship of publishers who aren't publicly feuding with the game's creator. Today saw the release of a new update expanding the muddy drive 'em up's Steam Workshop to support maps too, making it easier to download…

Digital deals so far this week

We've hit the mid-point of the week and the see-saw of time is about to tip forward and hurtle us towards the weekend at an alarming rate. Perhaps more ominously, we will also be hurtling towards the litany of PC gaming Black Friday deals that are headed our way in a fortnight's time. Before then, however, the deals aren't slowing down one bit and there's…

Spintires: MudRunner splats out

A hundred Halloween horrors start this way: driving through the wilds, a vehicle becomes stuck and its driver faces a harrowing ordeal. Will they escape and live to see another dawn or will they be found in a shallow grave? A hundred Halloween horrors may start this way but few are nearly as tense and trying as Spintires: MudRunner, which launched overnight. It's an expanded…

Spintires returning enhanced & expanded in MudRunner

Back in 2014, the RPS treehouse shook with everyone thundering around pretending to be trucks stuck in squelching mud. Such was the captivating magic of Spintires, a serious simulation of simply trying to drive across rough Russian terrain. But ongoing development got bogged down by a drawn-out spat between developer Pavel Zagrebelny and publishers Oovee Game Studio, and Spintires seemed to be left to rust…

Spintires Now Back On Steam With Official Fix

Spintires [official site] is now back on Steam and an official fix has been released for the crash bug, which was originally rumoured to be sabotage by the game's developer after a falling out with its publisher. That developer, Pavel Zagrebelny, denies it was sabotage and now seems to be possibly denying any rift with the publisher at all.

Spintires Pulled From Sale, Developer Denies Allegations

The Spintires saga rumbles on. Yesterday, we reported on the apparent 'timebombs' in the game's code, which were causing crashes. Reverse-engineering of the code led to the belief that these crashes had been implemented intentionally and may have been the result of a well-documented breakdown in the relationship between developer and publisher. Now, the game's creator Pavel Zagrebelny has denied any responsibility for the issues.…

Spintires Dev ‘Sabotages’ Game After Publisher Relationship Breaks Down

[Update: the developer denies sabotage rumours. What could it be? Possibly a mirage.] Spintires [official site], the splendid game of mud and massive vehicles, appears to have been intentionally damaged by its creator Pavel Zagrebelny. We reported on the troubles that were brewing at Oovee last year. In short, financial disagreements and Pavel's claims that he couldn't update the game as he wanted to had…

Spintires Update Adds New Trucks, Mod Tools To Follow

Spintires' post-release development has seemed at times to be mimicking the game's subject matter, progressing with the speed of enormous lorries grinding themselves deeper and deeper into mud. Progress is being made however, slow and steady. Last Friday publishers Oovee released an update which fixes umpteen bugs, adds five new trucks, and paves the way for Steam Workshop support and mod tools to follow in…

Keep On Trucking: Spintires Development Back On Track

Ooh you could hardly hear yourself think in the RPS treehouse around when Spintires [official site] came out last year, what with Adam thundering around pretending to be a honking great lorry stuck in mud. But development slowed then by the end of the year, a nasty rift had formed between publishers Oovee and maker Pavel Zagrebelny, as The Flare Path reported. It sounded like…

The Flare Path: Continuum

What a con! So far '2015' feels a lot like a re-badged '2014'. I know you shouldn't look a free update in the mouth, but gosh, a few improvements would have been nice. How much longer must we wait for that Ebola fix... that promised 'Peace in South Sudan' scenario? Surely ISIL-seeking killer bees and colourblind-friendly rainbows don't take that long to code. I'm beginning to…

Spintires review

I'm stuck in a puddle and I can't get out. Every attempt to move forward only serves to send me deeper into the hole I've made for myself, and every attempt to reverse causes my vehicle to scream, splutter and stall. It all ends in tears and treadmarks, tires bald and fuel gauge needling toward oblivion. The track has become a battlefield and I'm desperately…

Glorious Mud: Spintires Squelching Out In June

A large part of PC gaming, to me, is developers combining several niche passions to make dream games--games that may not have mass appeal, but will be adored by people at the intersection of their niches. Off-road driving with fancy terrain deformation might appear on any platform, but in a sim where all the vehicles are honking great Soviet-era military and industrial hardware bristling with…

The Flare Path: Heads For The Hills

The FP works outings are legendary. Every year on the first bank holiday in Spring I pull up outside the office in a hired Abarth 500. Hilde and Hereward, the Reading Room librarians, squeeze into the back seat, closely followed by Roman (Senior Foxer Setter) Kate (Senior Foxer Setter's Assistant) and Uncle George (Not Totally Certain What Uncle George Does). The hampers, rugs, and deck…

No Flare Path Today, Simulation Offering

There's no Flare Path today, with Mr Stone being delayed until the weekend. To keep in the spirit of 1300 on a Friday, however, I wanted to point you towards the Spintires tech demo. Have you played it? Holy cow, that's some good off-roading. Throwing this mad Russian ATV into a heap of mud is quite the thing. Spintires had a successful Kickstarter a while…

The Flare Path: A Stoichiometric Mixture

FP likes his driving games the way he likes his Nineteenth Century literary heroines: lots going on under the bonnet, keen on cross-country rambles, accomplished on the pianoforte. Small wonder then that when he's not being kind to servants or being cruelly misunderstood at dances, he's usually to be found enquiring after the health of Spintires and Automation.

The Flare Path: Elegant Elefanticide

How rude. I sidle off to the seaside for a week of sun, sand, and saucy postcard scrutiny and instead of downing tools and waiting patiently for my return, the World's wargame workshops and sim smithies press on regardless. Combat Mission's assault on the Gustav Line appears to have commenced in my absence. DoorKickers' doorkickers are now toting sledgehammers and breaching charges. Blimey, even the forest-furrowingly…
