Monster Hunter and Final Fantasy XIV’s crossover blends the best of both worlds this August

Final Fantasy XIV and Monster Hunter: World are both games near and dear to my heart, and colliding in a major crossover event next month, at least in the case of Final Fantasy XIV. While I'm hopeful that this crossover will accompany the PC release of Monster Hunter: World on August 9th, we're poking Capcom for confirmation either way. Headed to Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood is the…

Minecraftbut MMO Boundless picked up by Square Enix’s Collective for release this year

Construction & exploration sandbox MMO Boundless has technically been around for yonks now (nearly four years of early access, and it was once known as Oort Online before that), but only now has it been signed by a big-name company for a multi-platform release. Wonderstruck's planet-hopping MMO has only just be signed by Square Enix's Collective - their indie incubator project - and is due…

Life Is Strange 2’s first episode is due out in September

The first episode of Life Is Strange 2 will arrive on September 27. Dontnod's Twitter account has announced the release date, along with a painfully brief teaser displaying only the title and the series length: five episodes. Beyond that, the developers are keeping quiet. For more details we’ll need to wait until August.

Avalanche: Just Cause 4 will not have multiplayer

Alas, Just Cause 4 will not include an official multiplayer mode, developers Avalanche Studios have said following the drive-o-fly-a-shoot-o-explode sandbox's announcement at E3 this week. None of the previous games in the series have officially featured multiplayer, so it's perhaps not wholly a surprise. However, sanctioned-yet-unofficial mods did add multiplayer to the past two games - and in 2016 Avalanche hired the lead developer of…

Platinum continue their PC streak with Babylon’s Fall

It looks like a scene straight out of Dark Souls; a battered knight lays hunched over as a towering blue armoured figure prepares to finish them off. Then the fallen knight sprouts magical tentacles from their back, tears off their opponent's sword-arm with them and uses it to bisect them, which is a bit less Dark Souls. Announced during Square Enix's E3 showcase, Babylon's Fall…

Square Enix tease The Quiet Man

The bods at Square Enix teased a new game called The Quiet Man during their E3 video presentation. There isn't much to it, except that it features a pale deaf (and presumably mute) character with good back-alley brawling skills. The game, curiously, is half live-action and half graphical biffing - as you can see in the announcement trailer below.

Shadow Of The Tomb Raider gameplay shows Lara’s Predator-esque junglemurders

When Eidos Montreal say that Shadow Of The Tomb Raider takes us through the journey where Lara Croft "becomes the Tomb Raider that she's destined to be", I think they mean becoming a stone-cold mass murderer. They blasted a few minutes of gameplay footage during Square Enix's E3 press conference today, and it shows Lara's stealthy murdermoves from camouflaging herself in mud to firing rope…

Just Cause 4 officially announced, shows wild weather

As if swinging from hostile helicopters on a grappling hook, gliding around on a wingsuit, and causing so very many explosions weren't dangerous enough for Rico Rodriguez, in Just Cause 4 he'll also be fighting through tornadoes, sandstorms, and blizzards. Publishers Square Enix today formally announced Avalanche Studios' next explosive sandbox, surprising no one after recent leaks, and it looks nifty. The storms in Avalanche's…

Dontnod’s Captain Spirit reminds us that we’ve become old and dead inside

Life is Strange was always promised to be a big complicated weirdo universe. I thought Dontnod started fulfilling that promise when they setup the expansion/prequel Before The Storm and let us explore superpower-less backstories. But here's a bit of something completely different: The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit; an original story set in the Life is Strange universe and taking on a completely different style…

When and where to watch the big E3 livestreams

Publishers are lining up to announce and show off their upcoming games at their big annual press conference-o-market-o-ramas, starting today. This is all livestreamed nowadays, and it's certainly more comfortable to be watching from home than the conference rooms (sorry, Brendy), and it's always a lark. Cars descend from the rafters for no reason, lights flash, music plays, terrible terrible just awful jokes are told,…

Final Fantasy XV mod tools released

Square Enix have launched the promised official mod tools for Final Fantasy X, letting all and sundry tinker with those good boys. Right now, the tools can replace models, add new weapons, and add new costumes, but Squeenix have said before that they plan to keep expanding their scope to make more types of mod possible. The FFXV Steam Workshop, which previously only hosted mods…

Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition arrives on Windows 10

The boys are low-poly now. As someone with a fairly fancy PC, it's easy to forget sometimes that not everyone has the GPU muscle to run the likes of Final Fantasy XV. An alternative presents itself today (for Windows 10 users, at least - it's OS-exclusive, sorry) in the form of Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition, a low-fi demake of the game designed for mobile…

Chrono Trigger’s PC port improves, one step at a time

I don't think it's unfair to say that when Super Nintendo classic JRPG Chrono Trigger first hit PC back in February, the quality of the port could be summed up as 'hot garbage', with blurry sprites, a clumsy interface and even using Windows default system text in places. The iconic opening screen of the game - a clock pendulum swinging - was even undermined by being completely…

Cinematic animated adventure Forgotton Anne out now

We all lose socks from time to time. According to just-released adventure Forgotton Anne, it's because they were spirited away to a magical world of forgotten things and granted sentience. Less great for our errant footwear; it must now work to earn its keep or risk having its very life-force stripped from its body by the human Enforcer of this strange land. You get to…

Final Fantasy XIV’s Under The Moonlight patch due soon

Few games make patch day feel even half as momentous as Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. In-between each major expansion, the MMORPG receives five massive episodic updates bridging between story arcs, adding new features, dungeons and more, each accompanied by a dramatic trailer and a novella's worth of patch notes. The third episode of this season was officially unveiled today. Due for launch on May…

Shadow Of The Tomb Raider is fighting the apocalypse

Lara Croft will be sticking her toffee nose into the Mayans' business to prevent their apocalypse in Shadow Of The Tomb Raider, Square Enix confirmed today as they started showing more of the game. Typical colonial invaders: thinking they know best, that they can and should solve everything. Hey, pal, that's not your apocalypse. Butt out. And don't think I didn't notice you slip that…

Otherworldly adventure Forgotton Anne launches in May

We've all lost socks to some bizarre interdimensional vortex, but thanks to ThoughLline Games' upcoming 'cinematic adventure' Forgotton Anne, we also know that these lost and mislaid items have their own world, where they've been granted sentience, mobility and (in some cases) snazzy hats, which are probably also sentient. Not all is well in the land of these 'Forgotlings', however. For starters, more things are…

Chrono Trigger’s first patch is a step in the right direction

Even after peeling away the shell of nostalgia, Chrono Trigger is a truly classic JRPG, so it's understandable that people were a bit miffed when the recent PC release of the game was a messy port of the Android edition of the game with no shortage of technical issues. Today, it received its first major patch, which goes a long way to getting the game back…

Final Fantasy XV getting four new DLCs in 2019

Final Fantasy XV has already seen some story based DLC this year, but at PAX East there was an announcement from Square Enix regarding four add-on story packs coming to the game in 2019. The Dawn of the Future DLC hopes to set itself apart from other story-based add-ons by creating an entire season of alternate plot branches, building towards (what appears to be) a…
