Warface bizarrely lets players be NotTerminators on Mars now

The face of war is always changing, and Warface's latest face is skull-faced androids fighting faceless robot drones on Mars, because why not? Perhaps My.Games have gotten their free-to-play shooter confused with Warframe? Either way, I'm always down for a little robot-on-robot laserfight action. The new update adds a new co-op mission set on the red planet, remote robot bodies to inhabit, zappy laser rifles…

Crytek taking their Warface… off

Crytek's hilariously-named free-to-play FPS Warface is taking off, its development team splintering up to set up their own independent studio and taking the game with them. Blackwood Games is their name, and continuing Warface is their game. Crytek say it'll be better for the game to be independent, and that this will also let Crytek focus on other plans. Updates already announced for Warface are…

Warface’s Pripyat mission is more C&C than S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Crytek's name might not command quite the same respect as it did during the height of the Crysis series, but their free-to-play FPS Warface has maintained a steady (and slowly growing) player-base over the past year, in large part due to a steady influx of fresh content. While the previous update to the game was a predictable me-too Battle Royale mode, the latest addition is…

Warface gets in on the battle royale craze

Everyone’s trying to get some of that Plunkbat money, with Warface, Crytek’s free-to-play shooter, being the latest game to add a battle royale mode. It’s live now as part of the November update. Unlike Battlegrounds or H1Z1, however, the smaller scale of Warface means that it’s not quite as much of a messy free-for-all, what with only 16 players competing for the top spot.

Video game tourism alert: Warface is off to Pripyat

Crytek's free-to-play face-shooter Warface [official site] is off to the city of Pripyat within the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone later this year. Is Warface (WARFACE WARFACE WARFACE etc.) any good? Dunno. Am I keen to see this? Oh yes. I always enjoy video games travelling to that spooky abandoned land, from Call of Duty 4's stealthy visit to the joys of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.. Video game tourism is…

Crytek On Unpaid Staff: “Some people were very impatient”

In June this year, rumours began to circulate that developer and publisher Crytek were in trouble. Anonymous sources told Kotaku and GameStar [article behind paywall] stories of wages being late, staff going two months without pay, and a lack of communication from the company's management. Crytek initially denied everything. Then last week Crytek made staff redundant at their Austin office, and sold their UK office…

ReleaseFace: WARFACE Is Now Live

The saga of WARFACE, the free-to-play shooter from Crytek that RPS has treated with all the respect we could muster, is finally coming to some sort of conclusion. It is out. It is live. Everyone in North America, Europe and Turkey can sign into their social netwrok thing GFACE (really) and play on the game's co-op or multiplayer maps for nothing. I'm impressed that they…

How Is It Still Called WARFACE?

Just think: two million years of evolution got us to this point, give or take one divine intervention. Hundreds of billions of humans have lived and died to get the world to the state it's in now. We've sent men, women, dogs and monkeys into space. Mapped the globe. Put the internet and all of human knowledge into every pocket. Landed on the moon. Made…

CLOSEDBETAFACE

Here at RPS, we like to have a little fun every once in a while, but it's time for real talk: Warface is no laughing matter. It afflicts several billion people per day, and chronic Warface has stumped even the techno-magic of modern medicine for years. Recently, it took Alec from us. Now he just sits in a corner all day, banging his head against…

Crytek CEO: All-F2P Future ‘Won’t Happen Tomorrow’

In the future, nothing will cost anything. Ever. Well, except when it costs something. Which will be sometimes, but not always. Or ever, unless you want it to. Those are the sorts of wonderful logical fallacies somewhat - shall we say - misleading phrases like "free-to-play" conjure up, but there's no denying the business model's effectiveness. Even so, there are plenty of kinks to work out, which…
