World Of Warcraft Dev Address Pacing Problems

If you're still holding your breath for Blizzard to make a firm ruling on official servers running older (legacy) versions of World of Warcraft [official site], jeez, you must be tired. A month of holding until you pass out, over and over? Rough. Well, a Blizzard livestream today deftly stepped around that, but one dev get nicely into one of the problems fuelling interest in…

Blizzard On Vanilla WoW Servers, Talks With Nostalrius

After their lawyers recently shut down the fan-run World of Warcraft [official site] server Nostalrius, Blizzard have piped up with some thoughts thoughts on vintage WoW and unofficial servers. In short, don't hold your breath for Blizzard to run their own vintage version of WoW. However, they have considered a 'pristine realm' which would remove levelling acceleration to get closer to the old way of…

World Of Warcraft: Legion Hunting Demons From August

If you're one of the lapsed World of Warcraft players who pops back to check out each new expansion, here, draw a wavering circle around August 30th on your calendar as that's when World of Warcraft: Legion [official site] will launch, Blizzard have announced. If you're a steady player, still hanging in there, hey, draw a confident circle. If you're neither of these and don't…

Fan-Run Vanilla WoW Server Gets Shut Down By Blizzard

This morning I'm reading about a fan-run vanilla World of Warcraft server being shut down after a legal notice issued by Blizzard's lawyers. It's interesting to me because the subject involves keeping an older version of an otherwise changing game online and alive in some fashion and I have a background in heritage work/archiving. But first here's what happened with WoW:

World Of Warcraft: Noblegarden vs Easter Egg Hunts IRL

Catching up on Blizzard news this morning took me to the World of Warcraft [official site] blog where the company cheerily announced the return of their Easter-themed event, Noblegarden. Noblegarden is more on the "hunting for brightly painted eggs" side of Easter than the "waiting three days to get resurrected" side. I assume it's at least partly because the latter would make raiding rather inconvenient*.

After being announced in August, Legion - the upcoming World Of Warcraft [official site] expansion - has received a launch trailer ahead of its summer release next year. World Of Warcraft Won’t Report Subs Numbers Anymore

World of Warcraft [official site] now "only" has 5.5 million subscribers, a considerable decrease from the game's peak but still nearly a Scotlands-worth of people paying a monthly fee direct into the coffers of Activision and Blizzard. Blizzard also say this is the last time they're going to announce subscriber numbers.

CGI Orcs: Peek At Warcraft Movie’s Orgrim Doomhammer

Curious about what the CGI orcs - and the legendary Orgrim Doomhammer in particular - will look like in the upcoming Warcraft movie? As you may have guessed, he’ll look a lot like the picture above, as Wired revealed. Like a big, muscular orc. But with a sparkle in his eyes that says there’s a sweet, sensitive side hidden in there somewhere.

Let’s Do The Timewalk: Revisit Older Dungeons In WoW

Sounds pretty straightforward to me - I mean it's just a jump to the left and then a step to the right, with your hands on you hi... oh. My bad. "Timewalk". Blizzard want you to do a "Timewalk" in World of Warcraft [official site]. The WoW devs are setting up a couple of weekend events dedicated to letting players attack old-school dungeons. It looks…

Avast: World Of Warcraft Adding Garrison Shipyards

For a game supposedly about war and the crafting of warthings, World of Warcraft [official site] doesn't have much of any of that. Mostly the Horde and Alliance stand on opposite sides of the warhall sneering and occasionally yelling e.g. "You're rubbish you are!" The Warlords of Draenor expansion did add a little warcrafting, though, letting folks build and upgrade their own garrison. Now Blizzard are…

Buy World Of Warcraft Subs For Gold With WoW Tokens

MMORPG players buying and selling virtual money for real money is, we all know, very naughty indeed. Folks who want to skip the grind end up driving up auction house prices for everyone, making the grind even grindier for those without cash to flash. MMOs tend to ban users buying gold (or credz, shillings, cybershillings...), but a few have introduced roundabout official ways to do…

Blizzard have announced that an "upcoming patch" will introduce the ability to buy World of Warcraft [official site] game time tokens to be sold on the in-game auction house for gold, the game's primary currency. This means two things: there is now a first party, risk free way to buy WoW gold for real cash, cutting the legs out from under a long-standing and TOS-breaking mini…

WoW Boosting Colour Blind Filter Options In 6.1

World of Warcraft's 6.1 patch will add a more robust suite of options for colour blind players to use while in Azeroth. Blizzard’s Digital Space Goat Raises $1.9m For Ebola Relief

Sometimes I wonder whether my Mastermind specialist subject would no longer involve questions on "Picasso's relationship with the Communist Party" and would, instead, be "Pets it is possible to own in videogames". Perhaps I'd go with one for the main series and save the other for if I got into the finals.Today's pet is World of Warcraft's Argi who is a blue goat-looking creature. She's…
