Godly: Reus Gets May Releus Date
I know I may look like a stunningly handsome, impossibly well-put-together game journo, but in my most sacred heart of hearts, I've always felt more like an Earth-punching crab god. Those megaton claws and beady, all-seeing eyes are pieces of my soul I've never been able to fully embrace. So I was ecstatic to hear that Reus would allow me to finally take a sideways walk on the crab side's sidewalk, even though that's really, really hard to say multiple times in a row. Oh, and I guess it also looks like an utterly magnificent god game, a rare breed in these dark modern days. Release details and a new trailer are both after the break.
May 16th! Not in 2014, 2015, or 1657, either. This year. Initially, it'll turn water into wine essential resources for its population on Steam, GamersGate, GOG, and Desura. Abbey's been developing the game between work and studies for quite some time, too, so this is a rather large milestone.
As for the game itself, it's about using your three titans to shape the planet's ecosystem - for instance, by filling the planet with a chewy, nougaty center of precious metals or turning barren wastelands into loamy blankets of green. However, your human subjects are inherently greedy, so it's all about striking a balance. Your almighty hand must be helpful, but also firm and sometimes callous.
In other words, Reus' cheery, colorful exterior belies a seemingly nuanced core. If we're lucky, then, we'll get the best of both worlds. Here's hoping anyway, given that even the god of god games seems to only have a tenuous grip on the genre these days. Reus, if nothing else, represents something new and largely different, and for that it deserves our loudest crab snaps of adulation.
