StarCraft's Dehaka Will Be The 50th Hero Of The Storm
Not a rider on the storm
Prepare the cake and light up the candles, because Heroes of the Storm [official site] has announced its next hero, bringing the roster up to 50 characters! What do you say? We don't do candles and cake anymore? We just give them an achievement?
Anyway, as reported by Destructoid, it's Dehaka's turn to join Blizzard's MOBA. He comes from Starcraft, and among his abilities it stands out that he won't be able to use mounts.
Dehaka follows the release Li Ming and Xul, both from Diablo's universe. Blizzard has been putting out new heroes at a rate of about one a month, trying to add variety to their battle-arena. HotS may have the different maps on its side, but its roster is definitely lacking in terms of numbers, compared to DotA (111) and LoL (129).
Here is the full moveset:
Brushstalker (Z) (Mount)
You cannot use Mounts. Instead, you may burrow to any bush or vent on the Battleground. 40 second cooldownEssence Collection (D) (Trait)
You collect 10 Essence per Hero Takedown, and 2 per enemy Minion killed nearby, storing up to a maximum of 50 Essence.
Activate to consume all stored Essence and regenerate Health over the next 5 seconds for each stack consumed.
Can be cast during Drag and Burrow.Drag (Q)
Lash out with your tongue, dealing light damage to the first enemy hit, and dragging them with you for 1.75 seconds.Dark Swarm (W)
Over the next three seconds, you gain the ability to move through units and deal damage in an area around yourself. Deals double damage to Heroes.
Can be cast during Drag and Burrow.Burrow (E)
Burrow into the ground, entering Stasis and becoming Invulnerable for 2 seconds.
Heroic AbilitiesIsolation (R)
Launch biomass that deals damage, silences, and slows the first enemy Hero it hits by 30% for 3 seconds. For the next 6 seconds, the affected enemy loses sight of allied Heroes, and has greatly reduced vision.Adaptation (R)
After a 5 second delay, 60% of all damage taken during this time will be returned to you as Health.
What stands out, as mentioned, is the lack of mount: Dehaka will instead be able to burrow. The wording is not clear, but I'd assume it's going to be similar to Rek'Sai's ultimate Void Rush in League, in that you're going to be able to teleport to any bush or vent. On a 40 second cooldown, this gives him incredible mobility, which is always useful, whether you want to play the map, force fights or come to the aid of an ally.
The rest of the kit gives him good crowd control (Q) and disruption: his Burrow (E) is particularly useful to intiate fights, maybe bait the enemy in and then, when they're focusing on you, enter stasis and let teammates do the work.
If you haven't played HotS, you may be confused by the two ultimates (R): in Heroes of the Storm players can choose how to level up their hero during the game, picking different passives or augmentations to their existing abilities. Every hero has two ultimates, and in every game the player can choose the one they think fits best in those particular circumstances. In this case, Isolation gives him more damage (which he lacks) and even more crowd control, whereas Adaption makes him quite tanky, which is important for someone who may be initiating fights for their team.
Dehaka should be coming to HotS in the following weeks.
