90 people lose jobs at Telltale

Telltale Games have laid off 90 people today, shrinking the company’s workforce by around 25%. The company says it won’t affect any of their currently announced projects, which includes The Walking Dead’s fourth season, Batman: The Enemy Within, and a second season for Wolf Among Us. Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy season finale out today

The fifth and final part of Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy episodic adventure blasts off today, wrapping up the first season. It’s got everything: friendship; loss; action; supervillains; banter; big guns; and the sense that everyone and everything you have known and loved may soon be destroyed. Now I’m no Albert Shakespeare but that sounds like the sum total of human existence to me. Read the rest of this entry »

The Walking Dead’s final season brings back Gary Whitta

Veteran The Walking Dead storyman Gary Whitta will return to the episodic zombie apocalypse story ’em up for its fourth and final season, Telltale Games announced today. Whitta was story consultant on the first season and wrote its fourth episode, as well as contributing to add-on episode 400 Days, but hasn’t been involved with it for years. The series has declined over the years so hopefully he might help reverse this.

Telltale have also announced they’re working on prettied-up versions of their earlier Walking Dead games for a big console collection, though they haven’t confirmed if those will come to PC too. (Update: doesn’t look like it.) Read the rest of this entry »

Batman: The Enemy Within removes photo resembling real murder victim

Telltale Games have hastily updated the latest episode of Batman: The Enemy Within [official site] to remove an in-game photograph of a murder victim which bore a striking resemblance to a real-world photo of murdered Russian ambassador Andrei Karlov following his assassination. Telltale avoid addressing how this happened, but do say they “regret this incident occurred” are “taking appropriate internal action”. Read the rest of this entry »

Enter The Riddler’s torture chamber in Telltale’s Batman: The Enemy Within trailer

batman riddler

Feast your eyes on a new trailer for the Batman: The Enemy Within [official site], the second season of Telltale Games’ trip to Gotham. I say feast, it might be more cover-and-squeal, because there’s a particularly nasty sequence of The Riddler, the villain of choice this time around, torturing a man for information.

You don’t actually watch the gore but you see the choppy-choppy contraption and hear the saw blades and the screams and your imagination does the rest. Oh, and The Joker makes an appearance too. Read the rest of this entry »

Don’t expect more of Telltale’s Wolfamongus or Borderlands any time soon

Update: Well ho ho ho don’t I look a fool. Telltale have since announced a new season of Wolfamongus, along with more Batman and The Walking Dead. But no mention of new Borderlands, sadly.

If you’ve been hoping to hear more from Telltale Games about new seasons of The Wolf Among Us and Tales from the Borderlands, don’t hold your breath unless you’re willing to pass out over and over for an indefinite — and possibly endless — time. After That There Internet You Get Nowadays became excited about a marketing hint internauts took to be about an impending Wolfamongus announcement, Telltale marketman Job Stauffer stepped in with a hose to cool everyone’s jets. Nope, it sounds like Telltale won’t release me of either any time soon (if they ever do?). Read the rest of this entry »

Telltale’s Minecraft: Story Mode has started season 2

Blip bloop.

Young people: what are they like? We just don’t know. Telltale released the first episode last night, which follows on from the 2015-2016 season with more cubical adventuring in the traditional Telltale way. Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy continues in Ep 2 today

The second episode of Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy arrives later today, and it seems it’ll bring a fork in the spaceroad. A trailer heralding the launch gabs about choosing between a path digging into Rocket’s path and one going into Gamora’s family as the gang of spacefriends investigate a doohickey. Do you love your spacesister or your dogbrother more? I’m sure they’ll remember that. They’ll probably allude to it over Spacechristmas dinner then slowly build up to a meltdown during the Spacechristmas Doctor Who. Anyway! Have a look in the trailer: Read the rest of this entry »

Walking Dead S4 ep 5

If you’ve been itching to tie up all the loose ends in The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series – A New Frontier [official site], then you won’t have to wait much longer. Telltale Games have announced that the conclusion of season three of their point-and-click zombie ’em up will shuffle onto screens on 30 May and will be called From the Gallows, which sounds pretty ominous.

They’re keeping their cards very close to their chest on this one. There’s not even a trailer to look at yet – that won’t arrive until next week.

Wot I Think: Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy

The cassette tape in Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy [official site] is called ‘Rad Mix’ instead of ‘Awesome Mix.’ A crueller man than I might observe that this is all we really need to know about Telltale’s not-based-on-the-film-and-yet-kinda-is spin on the adventures of Rocket, Groot and chums. I.e., that it really, really wants to be be just like what is arguably the most purely entertaining superhero film on the past decade, but it can’t quite pull it off.

I’m not that cruel. Not quite. Read the rest of this entry »

Groot news: Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy trailer

The Guardians of the Galaxy [official site] adventure that Telltale are tale-telling has revealed itself to us in the form of a trailer for the opening episode, due to come out this April. All the boyos and girlos are there. Starman, Racoon King, Treebeard, Woman Who Is Green, and everyone’s favourite source of taking-things-literally humour: Dracks. I’m a big fan of the Guardians. Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy biffing baddies in April

There’ll be five episodes in this season, with a trailer coming on Thursday, they say. Why is everyone bringing their trailers out on Thursday? Is this some kind of cool new cult? And if so, how do we join?

After kicking off with a two-parter in December, Telltale’s shambling story ’em up The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series – A New Frontier [official site] will continue with Episode 3: Above The Law on Tuesday. If you’re expecting a cheery episode with Clem riding around on the shoulders of police officers and judges, you might be disappointed. Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy cast revealed

Below you’ll find the first screenshots from what we must refer to as Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series [official site], to avoid any possible confusion arising from the existence of The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: A James Gunn Sequel. In Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series, Groot is not a baby, whereas in The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: A James Gunn Sequel, Groot is a baby.

The cast list for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series has also been released and, oddly, Adam Harrington is playing Groot. You might remember that in The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1: A James Gunn Movie, Vin Diesel played Groot, which involved saying “Groot” over and over again. I’d have sample that. I bet Vin would love to be in another game, following Atari’s The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena: A Riddick Chronicle.

Wot I Think: The Walking Dead – A New Frontier Eps 1&2

Telltale’s The Walking Dead [official site] comes back into our lives after just over two years away, but is it a welcome return with fresh water and bandages, or a shambling wreck of fetid corpse. It’s the second one. It’s fucking awful. Here’s wot I think: Read the rest of this entry »
