The Escapists 2 will tunnel into August

The Escapists 2

The Escapists 2 [official site], the sequel to prison escape RPG The Escapists, will bust out of its shackles on 22nd August, publishers Team 17 have announced. The first was a silly, fun little game in which you tried to cut your holiday at Her Majesty’s pleasure short by digging tunnels, cutting wire fences – you know, the usual stuff you’d think of and never get away with in real life.

The sequel is basically that on steroids, judging by its latest trailer. You can grab onto helicopters passing over the prison, tame a dog to fetch important keys, and…er…break dance. Oh, And blast into space. Why not? Read the rest of this entry »

The Escapists 2 Tunneling Into 2017

♫ Tonight there's gonna be a jailbreak ♫

Prisons Are ‘Like Sandbox RPGs’, declares The Daily Rag. They rattle off a list of exciting and fun activities inmates get up including joining a band, learning to paint, crafting new items, and something called ‘multiplayer’ – which sounds highly immoral.

You big sillies: you’ve been watching the announcement of prison break RPG sequel The Escapists 2. Publishers Team17 announced the follow-up to The Escapists, which launched last February after a stretch in Early Access, at TwitchCon over the weekend.

They plan to give the wholly uncreative name The Escapists The Walking Dead. No, really. Just the two names smashed together. Yeesh, parents these days.

The spin-off will see Rick Grimes trying to keep his pals alive while escaping scary places.

The Escapists Is Out On Early Release

When it comes to prison games on Early Access, few are going to compete with Prison Architect. However, The Escapists approaches the concept from the other side. Here, you’re the prisoner, and you’re trying to escape. It’s out on Early Access now – I’ve written some (jail) sentences about it below.

Cellmates: Team 17 To Publish The Escapists

Backers of top-down prison break game The Escapists are no doubt aware that Team 17 have picked up the title for publication. An alpha version will be tunnelling into backer inboxes soon and the game will also be playable at EGX Rezzed. The Lair of the Worms appears to be making a concerted move into third-party publishing, having already signed minimalist stealth game Light, which was also creeping through the crowdfunding process when Team 17 spotted it. My advice? If you’re an indie developer, the best way to attract Team 17’s attention is a spot of top-down sneaking. Perhaps it’s time to start work on that roguelike Casanova sim you’ve been planning for the last five years.

Will We Escape With The Escapists?

Where do you go once you’ve successful Kickstarted a Dizzy-like 16-bit era platformer? Well, if you re the creator of Spud’s Quest, you create a top-down prison break game called The Escapists, and you Kickstart that, too. The developer explains that he believes the prison-break theme hasn’t been sufficiently explored by videogames: “Surely a game that encapsulates the tension and thrills of meticulously planning and executing a perfect prison escape would be fun, no? Well I think so, that’s why I’m asking for your help to make The Escapists.”
