Super Hydorah blasts out today

Swell shoot ’em up Hydorah returns today, expanded as Super Hydorah [official site]. As bad at shmups as I am, I did enjoy Hydorah’s side-scrolling action and weird locations. The Super version isn’t massively different but it is fleshed out and fancied up, and the 2010 original is free so heck, it’s hard to complain about a £9 price tag. Hydorah is the creation of Locomalito, whose fine freeware Ghosts ‘n’ Goblins-ish platformer Maldita Castilla was similarly revamp-o-rereleased last year. Read the rest of this entry »

Super Hydorah revamping ace freeware shmup

Hydorah, the cracking horizontal-scrolling shmup by Locomalito, is being expanded and fancied-up as Super Hydorah [official site]. While I missed Hydorah when it came out in 2010 (it did tickle Kieron), recently I noticed it and had a crack (it’s good; I suck) after a few ‘Tubefolk got into its Gradius-ish, R-Type-y action. A new version sounds grand. Locomalito has teamed up with publishers Abylight again on this, following their expand-o-re-release of his platformer Maldita Castilla as Cursed Castilla. Ghosts ‘n Goblins ‘n Gonks: Cursed Castilla Released

Cursed Castilla [official site], an expanded version of Locomalito’s ace Maldita Castilla, has arrived on PC for more Ghosts ‘n Goblins-y, Tiger Road-ish shooty platforming action. It improves on the original with new levels, new enemies, new bosses, a new illustrated bestiary, new songs, and remastered audio – it’s the fancy polished commercial version of a game that was already really quite pleasant.
