The 23 best VR games for PC

best-vr-games

Here they are then – the best games to play in virtual reality…and those games are “watching football,” “drinking”, “a nice cup of tea”, “fleeting emotional connection to another human being” and all those other everyday activities you believe to be real, as opposed than a simulation you have been experiencing since you first plugged your frail, mollusc-like form into a headset 19 years ago. SPOOKS!

But, should you persist in maintaining this fantasy, let’s go one level deeper and talk about the entertaining, satisfying or otherwise nifty games available for what is the current VR state-of-the-art in your imagined world: the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. The rival headsets are getting on for a couple of years old now, and in that time there’s been what can feel like a ceaseless storm of new games for them. How to choose, how to choose? Well, start here. These are not the only good’uns, please understand – but they are our favourite virtual realities right now.

Cosmonaut Conspiracy Outreach Gets Live-Action Trailer

We all know the United States faked the moon landing by covering the floors of Universal Studios with cocaine and then tramping through it in slow motion wearing spacesuits. That’s a FACT. But we don’t know the Russian conspiracies of the Space Race. Outreach [official site] is hoping to fix that. It’s a first-person mystery set on a Soviet military space station during the 1980s. You play a cosmonaut who’s been sent up to investigate why the crew have gone silent. When you get there, they are nowhere to be seen. Now the creators have made a live action trailer offering no answers but just more questions.

Wot I Think: ADR1FT

ADR1FT [official site] manages the impressive trick of simultaneously convincing that the current generation of VR can definitely do ‘proper’ games, and making me flinch at the idea of ever donning a headset again. At least Sandra Bullock didn’t turn green and have to go for a half-hour lie down when she was fighting for her life in space.

Cyberspace: Adr1ft Begins Launch Countdown

Ha ha, I tell you, given the cost of virtual reality hardware, ho ho, it might be cheaper to actually travel into space, hee hee, than to buy cybergoggles for Adrf1t [official site]. That’s a sideways irreverent glance at current affairs right there, chums. Tell Radio 4 I’m available to host The Games News Quiz. Anyway, with Oculus Rift raring to go, news comes that the zero-gravity explore ’em up will launch on March 28th. But hey, you won’t actually need cybergoggles to die in the wreckage of a smashed space station, as a non-Rift version is coming too.

Space Ghosts: Zero-G Exploration In Adr1ft

IGN has some new footage of Adr1ft [official site], Three One Zero’s first person space-explorer aboard a damaged space station. “Damaged” in that it seems to have been ripped to pieces. It’s an interesting take on the usual spook-’em-up formula in that, so far at least, all the danger and destruction is non-sentient. It’s scary not because of a mysterious force or supernatural element but because everything’s fucked.

Debris! Hurry! >Adr1ft Is Basically Gravity: The Game

I will not apologise for that terrible and nonsensical pun in the title

Shattered Horizon’s insistence on putting guns in the hands of the astronauts, while a noble endeavor that I was totally behind, never really reflected the perils and potential pitfalls of being a human in space. There’s plenty that could wrong up there in the black: you could have to listen to the characters from Gravity talking banally inbetween incredi-moments of space fun, for one. That’s what >Adr1ft mostly resembles: the exciting and awful feeling of being alone in the glittering remains of a broken space station. Kotaku has the scoop on this, and I am eternally jealous because you know how I feel about space. Go read their take on it. The rest of this post is mostly screenshots and John’s shocking plans for the future. You won’t believe what he’s up to, readers.
