£25?! Xbox One Controller’s Wireless Adapter Is Out

The Xbox One controller is the finest lump of gameplastic I’ve had the pleasure of using for appropriate virtuamurder, but on PC I’m confined to connecting it via a USB cable. That’s a bit old-timey, considering this is the 21st of October, 2015. Wires? Where we’re going, we don’t need wires!

We do need, however, need £24.99 to buy the new USB adapter allowing Xbox One controllers to work wirelessly with Windows 10. Great Scott! That’s a big price for a small doohickey. Why, to afford that I’d have to travel back to 1955 and hand Young Alice sports results from 1950 to the year 2000 so she could become rich off betting!

Rocket League Adds DeLorean DMC-12 In New DLC

In 1981, the DeLorean Motor Company started producing its first – and only – car, the DeLorean DMC-12. It was a flop, and the company shut down a few years later. The DMC-12 was expensive, heavy, and slow, so for a good long while many simply sat and rusted quietly in garages, car yards, and barns – too much work to fix up.

The car’s spaceship-y stainless steel panelling and gull-wing doors have found a few fans amongst collectors in recent years but, even so, this is a curious development: a DMC-12 arrived in Rocket League [official site] today as DLC.

Comfy? Telltale’s Game Of Thrones Ends In November

Speaking of conclusions to episodic adventure games made by Telltale, the devs have announced that their television murderfest spin-off Game of Thrones [official site] will wrap up on November 17th with its sixth episode, titled ‘The Ice Dragon’. That makes this post a bit like going back to past and changing that other post so in the future we have a post about Game of Thrones rather than Tales from the Borderlands but oh no what is this I’m dissolving gosh meddling with time is a rum do and no mistake!

Microtransaction Mishap: Payday 2’s ‘Safe’ Skin Tweak

We can be fairly certain that affordable time travel won’t exist within our lifetimes because Payday 2 [official site] developers Overkill Software evidently haven’t travelled back to last week and erase their mistake of adding microtransactions to unlock more-powerful versions of guns. If they had, memories of CS:GO-style weapon crates and keys concealing a random selection of garish weapon skins with better stats would fade away. No, clearly we don’t have time travel, because instead they’re now fiddling with the heist FPS’s safe system a bit, trying to placate riled-up players.

Heisters can now earn keys (or ‘drills’, in its terminology) to unlock crates (‘safes’) for free as they play, rather than having to buy or trade for them. It’s a start.

Tales From The Borderlands Episode 5 Is Out

It seems unlikely and pretty silly that two developers would release the fifth and final chapters of their respective episodic adventure games on the exact same day, but what do you want them to do – jump in a time-travelling car and return back from the future with a copy of The Video Game Almanac 2015?

By which I mean I’m still determined to win Most Forced Back To The Future Reference today, and also that I didn’t play Episode 5 of Gearbox’s pretty fun Tales from the Borderland [official site] last night because I was instead playing the conclusion to Dontnod’s wonderful Life Is Strange. But TFTB is now finished too.

Cheese It, It’s The Five-Ocean! Coast Guard Released

SEA COPS! COPS OF THE SEA!

Let’s go back to a few weeks ago and hide behind a bin to see John giggle like a schoolgirl on glue as he watches a trailer for Coast Guard [Steam page, ‘cos it has no site]. Now let’s come back to a time he would then have considered the future to discover – great Scott! – that the quirky sim is now out. Seacops!

It’s all about the lives and duties of seacops, roaming around around on their fancy boats, rescuing people, putting out fires, and (!) solving seacrimes. Developers Reality Twist have a string of shonky sims to their name but the idea is splendid. Seacops!

You Can’t Take The Sky From Me: Rebel Galaxy Released

Blammo!

Speaking of Back to the Future, how about that future where we’re all living in shades of grey as space captains on the outskirts of space society? Sorry, today I’m in the unofficial competition with every other wordperson to link a story to BTTF Day in the most tenuous way we can.

That idea is real, though: it’s Rebel Galaxy [official site]. The space scoundrel ’em up launched last night, offering procedurally-generated cosmos to explore, trade in, and maybe – just maybe – double-cross, cheat, and destroy folks with broadside combat. I haven’t had a play yet myself but it looks a bit Freelancer-ish and Firefly-y, yeah?
