The Top Best Bestest Games Of 2017 So Far

2017 has already been an extraordinary year for PC games, from both big-name AAA successes to no-name surprise indie smashes. Keeping up with so much that’s worth playing is a tough job, but we’ve got your back. Here is a collection of the games that have rocked the RPS Treehouse so far this year.

We’ve all picked our favourites, and present them here in alphabetical order so as not to start any fights. You’re bound to have a game you’d have wanted to see on the list, so please do add it to the comments below. Read the rest of this entry »

Platinum’s Vanquish rocketslides onto PC

Hold onto your butts! If you don’t, they’ll fall off as you rocketslide around a spacecity kicking robots in Vanquish [official site]. Almost seven years after its console debut, the third-person shooter from Bayonetta and Nier: Automata devs PlatinumGames has finally arrived on PC. It is a good video game. Did I not mention that you can rocketslide and kick robots? Our Alec is bumsliding around to tell us all Wot He Thinks but, for now, here’s notice that it’s out and some brief tech thoughts. Teensy Bayonetta update hints at Vanquish on PC

Because video games can’t ever state good news plainly, Sega are pulling a prank which seems like it’s meant to resemble a teaser campaign for a PC release of Platinum’s underappreciated 2010 shooter Vanquish. The recent (and overdue) PC release of Bayonetta today received a wee update adding only a picture of Vanquish’s protagonist to an ‘extras’ folder. That’s it. A PC release has seemed likely — and been hinted at — for a while but Sega just keep on yanking our pigtails and rocketkicking the back of our chair. Give over. Read the rest of this entry »

Hurrah, Bayonetta has finally arrived on PC

Bayonetta [Steam page] just arrived on PC and though she’s late to the party, in some ways the timing couldn’t be more perfect. The game’s creators, PlatinumGames, are amazing when at their best, but have released a few disappointing duffers over the years. Bayonetta is not a duffer and might be my favourite of their games.

This belated PC release comes hot on the heels of NieR: Automata, another game that showed Platinum at their best. It’s a mini golden age for stylish third-person action over on the PC right now and I’m here to tell you why you might just fall in love with Bayonetta.

Combo Wars:Bayonetta Dev’s G1-Style Transformers Game

I’ve been on holiday. I come back to work mid-E3. It’s like being hurled into the sea, only instead of waves and seagulls there are explosions and men’s khaki-clad bottoms everywhere. I doggy-paddle frantically, searching for something to grab onto, to stay afloat in this ocean of screaming bluster. I’ll swim through it all in time, sure, but give me something safe and familiar to get my sealegs from. Ah, of course. A new Transformers game from Activision. It’ll be more routine shooty-bang from a jobbing in-house developer, and it will resolutely refuse to give long term plastic robot fans what they want in favour of supporting whatever joylessly spiky thing the movies or toyline are currently doing. I can snarl at it mechanically and… wait, what?

Bayonetta Sorta On PC Ish A Bit (Ok It’s A Browser Game)

Heeey hold on.

Hang on. I need to get into character for this. Right. I cannot believe that Platinum are taunting me so cruelly. Or, worse, I can. This is only the latest knife stabbed into my - MY - very beating heart on purpose. I've been waiting for years for Bayonetta to turn up on PC, and Platinum have finally released a PC Bayonetta game only OH WAIT it's a free browser game I literally no, no, that’s not for me.

But if we play the little game on their website’s 404 page, maybe ☆magic☆ will bring the gun-shod witch to PC proper. Or their webperson will fret that these 404 visits mean their site is busted.

A Better Bayonetta: Platinum Games Considering PC

this is the entire plot of God Hand

The first thing that should be said when considering the possibility of Platinum Games self-publishing on PC – and that is the exciting future we are considering this postnoon – is that the company no longer retains the IPs that were originated at Clover Studio, its ancestral home. Those IPs are Okami, GOD HAND, Viewtiful Joe, GOD HAND and GOD HAND. A wiser man than me can tell you why that’s a shame. They do own the rights to Vanquish though and Bayonetta, the game that Devil May Cry occasionally aspires to be, and there’s an abundance of talent and imagination at the studio. So, executive director Atsushi Inaba, take it away: “I was thinking – with our own money – about creating a PC title for Steam.” Do tell.

Have U Got The New Look? ME2/DA Make-up

Instead of doing a podcast, John should give his own personal grooming videotips. Like making sure you get most of the food you eat out of your beard. It's a winner!

I came to Mass Effect 2 late, and after a couple of weeks of man-chat and man-shoot, finished it off last night. And so, I wandered off to Youtube to have a look for some of the choices I stepped away from and to relive my sexing of a mental lizard. At which point, I come across the make-up tutorials of UtopianDream (Who’s affiliated with the splendidly-named gamer-model agency Charisma +2 ). Her initial Miranda Mass Effect 2 one seems to have been linked quite widely back in February – which I missed – but her later ones for Morrigan Dragon age and (RPS IRRELEVANT!) Bayonetta (er) Bayonetta have been ignored. UNTIL NOW. Do you do requests, UtopianDream? If so, SHODAN. Go on. You know you want to. Her tutorials follow…
