Podcast: The worst games of the year

House Party: a bad game

We’ve told you about the most overlooked games and what has us excited for next year, but we haven’t had a good grump yet on the RPS podcast, the Electronic Wireless Show. So this week the team discuss the worst games they played in 2017. John thinks the misogyny of House Party puts it firmly in the bin, and Brendan is still wiping the red dust from his eyes after woeful survival game Rokh. But Matt can’t bring himself to call any game terrible, not even Star Wars Battlefront 2.

It’s not all negative vibes, however. We’ve also been smiling at pretty and poignant Gorogoa, climbing a mountain in Getting Over It, and shooting our way through Destiny 2‘s Curse of Osiris expansion. We’re only a bit scroogey. Read the rest of this entry »

Have you heard the one about Humble making a new Bundle? It’s a good one. Rather, it’s a Very Positive one.

Following on from the original ‘Very Positive’ Bundle back in May this year, Humble has brought the idea back for another go – in the Humble Very Positive Bundle 2, funnily enough. The collection of games brought together here all feature Steam ratings of ‘Very Positive’ or above and while we can’t always rely on those ratings as proof of a game’s intrinsic qualities, as recent happenings have taught us, rest assured these games are quite good.

It’s time to walk the streets (well, street) of mid-80s New York as a down-on-his-luck patrol officer, handing out parking tickets, and er, handing out some more parking tickets. But! But handing out parking tickets while people all around you shout racist and sexist stuff, because it’s set in the ’80s! It’s Beat Cop [official site]. Police ‘Em Up Beat Cop Announced

Long before they spawned a SWAT FPS spin-off, Sierra’s Police Quest games were big on police procedure, often with deadly consequences if you didn’t play by the book. Beat Cop [official site], an adventure game announced today and due to launch at the end of this year, may let players write tickets and tow cars but… I wouldn’t get your hopes up for obsessive procedure. Inspired by ’80s cop shows (not the most formal, that lot), Beat Cop is about a former detective framed for murder and busted down to a beat, trying to clear his name. Might be an interesting one, this.
