Update Your Sig: 3DMark Launches New Direct X12 Test

The most essential item for PC gaming is not a mouse, nor a keyboard, nor even a PC. Without a sweet forum signature proudly declaring your 3DMark [official site] scores, you may as well give up and play Monopoly. I’m sure you’ll be both overjoyed and anxious to hear that 3DMark devs Futuremark have expanded the graphics benchmark with a new test stressing DirectX 12 performance. How powerful is your PC – your box, your rig, your beast, your beefy big boy, your cyberhog, your chip-slapped datajack, your silicon-snorting framecrusher – and has anyone noticed your sig still lists old scores?

Alpha & Benchmark Tool For Stardock’s SupCom-like RTS Ashes Of The Singularity

Ashes of The Singularity [official site] is the Stardock-published, Oxide-developed uber-RTS in which you control thousands of units. I can barely keep control of one toddler and one cat, so I’m already scared. Apparently the trick is to “build “meta-units” that act together as a single, coherent, massive unit” though, so I guess I’ll try a cut’n’shut on my household’s junior lifeforms and see if it works out. Anyway, this ‘first 64-bit RTS’ looks pretty spectacular, but the finished version is a long way off and specs look a little scary to anyone with a humbler PC. A paid alpha’s been available for a couple of months, but it’s now joined by a benchmarking tool with which you can a) splatter pretty scenes all over your screen and b) compare genital sizes.

Test ‘Em Up – Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward Benchmark

Final Fantasy XIV [official site] may have launched in a sorry state, but I’ve heard good things from MMOers since its revamped relaunch with the A Realm Reborn subtitle. A big ole chunk of newsness is coming in June with the first expansion, Heavensward, and you can have an in-engine peek at that now running on your own computer thanks to a new benchmarking tool.

The free Heavensward benchmark will run through a few scenes showing off new things in Heavensward. It also includes the character creator so you can play with the new race in advance, and save your toons to use in the full release. Two months is about how long I need to perfect characters I create anyway.

Benchmark Your PC With Giant Cats And Dubstep

STARING EYES.
The list of things cats can do: lick their genitals, preen, fight off bears, and benchmark your PC with dubstep. That last one is SO a thing. Remember those programs that would use pretty graphics and scenes of games that didn’t exist to test out how powerful your graphics card is? Well the best one ever has just come out. Allbenchmark’s Catzilla shows Godzilla-sized cats battling armies and each other. The video below is life changing.
