Gravity bone creator now helping develop Sub Rosa

Early access game Sub Rosa [official site] is both a blocky, physics-based FPS and a corrupt corporate simulator. You jump into its online multiplayer world, enrol with a company and start doing dirty deeds, like carrying out heists on office buildings or hunting down a limousine containing one of the game’s valuable discs.

What I’ve seen looks promising, and it’s just got even more promising, because Brendon Chung has announced he’s helping developer Cryptic Sea make the game. Chung is the chap behind Thirty Flights of Loving and Quadrilateral Cowboy. Those are good games.

The Electronic Wireless Show – IGF Special #1: Sci-fi

It’s time to use to our radio voice. The RPS Electronic Wireless Show has historically been our not-very-regular podcast where we gather to tell each other how wrong we are about videogames. But this month it has mutated into something different. In the lead-up to this year’s Independent Games Festival, we interviewed a whole bunch of developers, all of whom have been nominated for some kind of award this year. We’ll be talking to them about sex, politics, and other things we’ve never understood.

Level With Me, Brendon Chung.

Months before releasing Atom Zombie Smasher to acclaim, Brendon Chung exploded onto the indie scene with the stylish FPS sketch Gravity Bone – but before then, us loyal followers (“Chungers”) had already been enjoying his short-form forays into FPS-dom for years. His Barista series, especially Barista 2, is proof that Brendon was doing this “indie FPS” silliness long before any of us. Damn.

There’s No Place Like Homeworld: Flotilla

You remember Blendo Games’ Gravity Bone, yes? One of the finest short-form indie games ever, frankly. Anyway, Mr Blendo, Brendon Chung, is working on another indie game which very much looks like RPS’ sort of thing. It’s called Flotilla and is a skirmish-level orbital-fleet RTS. In other words, yes, there’s a clear Homeworld influence. Woo! Between this and Frozen Synapse, the iconic-graphics micro-indie strategy game seems set to flourish in 2010. Hopefully! Hopefully Yays!
