Call Of Duty: MW3 Allows Multiple Players

It's all so modern
There’s a lot to be gleaned from the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer World Premiere Trailer, though after typing out the cumbersome title I’m loathe to write anything else due to intense fingercramp. I’ll say this for it though: it manages to make combat look exciting, dramatic and bloody horrible, sometimes simultaneously. There’s lots of shooting, which I expected, lots of killing, which I also expected, but also large, spinning fuchsia dogtags, which I certainly didn’t expect. Admittedly, it is mostly man-shooting though. There’s evidence of all kinds of new as yet unexplained details, from strike packages to proficiency. What does it all mean? I’m going to say that men will use packages to strike other men in their proficiencies. Or some other combination of those words. You heard it hear first. Discuss and dissect below. Oh, and do look out for the particularly unpleasant Claymore-alike, the Bouncing Betty. Ouch.

Call of Duty: MW3 To Use Steamworks


This just came in from Valve: “The PC version of the product will be powered with Steamworks for both the digital and tangible versions of the game and, as with all Steamworks titles, offline play will also be supported along with Auto-Updating, Achievements, and more. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will also support dedicated servers on day 1.”

Better, I suppose. The game is out November 8th.

Modern Warfare 3 To Have Dedicated Servers


Back in the mists of time there was this game called Modern Warfare 2, and it had a bit of a fling with the idea of not bothering to use dedicated servers on PC. This, as you might imagine, caused a bit of consternation among people who actually wanted to play the game in any sensible way. Fortunately for such people, it seems that this mistake won’t be repeated for the third iteration of the series. Speaking to Eurogamer, Beachhead’s Noah Heller said: “The big announcement today is that we’re supporting dedicated servers for PC, which is really cool.” Hooray! “And of course we’re working really hard right now on the customised version of Elite for the PC [versions of Call of Duty games], because it’s an open platform and has some challenges.” Mmm.

How about this, then, man-shooting fans? Over two Imperial minutes (count ’em!) of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3’s Spec Ops survival mode can be found below, via BluesNews. What is it? Well, I dunno. Let’s say it’s some kind of escalating fight mode, with its own perks and stuff, featuring lots of different opponents: dogs, men, men, men, big armoured men.

Activision Announce Call Of Duty Convention

This could be you! Just imagine trainers poking out of the bottom of the trousers.

Ye Gods. Activision has announced Call of Duty XP 2011, a convention for Call of Duty fans taking place in Los Angeles on September the 2nd and 3rd of this year. Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg cheerily admits to the event being based on Blizzard’s yearly Blizzcon and says that it will allow CoD fans to “feel like you stepped into the game.”

Handbags: Activision And EA Don’t Get On

Oh, you two. I’m unsure whether the endless spat between two of the world’s biggest games publishers is healthy. With Activision currently occupying the coveted Most Hated spot at the top of the publishing ladder, once so impressively held by EA, you can see why there’s rivalry. “We’ve sacked another entire dev team! Take that!” “Well then! We’re going to cancel a game people were really looking forward to!” And so on. Currently the battle is over the world-dominating presence of Call Of Duty, and EA’s belief that plucky Battlefield can depose it. Slap! Pinch!

Very Modern Warfare: Thoughts On CoD Elite

It was always going to happen, and now it has. The nature of a corporation is never to sit still and be content with its lot – it’s to forever look to ways to make more money from what it has. (If RPS had a scrap of sense, we’d have launched a couple of spin-offs by now, but a corporation we are not). Activision was never going to let the world’s biggest gaming franchise stay the same size – its duty to its shareholders, and to a far less extent to its employees, is to make its IP as profitable as possible. With several of its divisions and titles recently axed and even WoW subscriptions in decline (by an apparently tiny 5%, but the difference between revenues increasing and revenues decreasing is a fundamental one for shareholder confidence), the publisher is almost required to milk a little more out of its remaining cashcows. On the one hand, you can’t blame them for introducing Call of Duty: Elite, a premium subscription service (though its basic features are free) which adds various community and content goodies to its shooter series’ frighteningly popular multiplayer mode.

On the other hand, it’s hard to not to feel a little dirty about Elite, isn’t it?
