Developer CI Games has delayed Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 [official site] yet again. The game was originally slated for release this year, but in June we heard that it wouldn’t hit shelves until January 2017. Today CI Games stated that they wouldn’t be hitting that release window either.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 [official site] and Sniper Elite 4 [official site] are giving each other the eye from either side of the no man’s land between January and February. Open-world snipe ’em up Ghost Warrior 3 will launch on January 27th, 2017, CI Games announced this week during E3. The very same day, Rebellion announced that they’ll launch Sniper Elite 4 on February 14th, 2017.
Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 [official site] is the third in the FPS series, but the first that developers CI Games are making as a “full-fledged triple-A title”. The first two face-shooters were a bit cheap and cheerful, see. So what’s so different about 3? You can have a peek for yourself, as a new 24-minute narrated gameplay trailer the devs playing through the demo they took to E3.
In short, it’s now a big open-world affair with side-quests (or ‘war crimes’ as CI have decided is a cute name for them) and crafting and everything, and looks a lot less janky.
Given the option in an FPS, assuming I’m too far for a shotgun and the game’s stingy with revolver ammo, I’m awfully happy with a sniper rifle in my virtual hands. Great noises, sniper rifles. Popping heads with a bolt-action rifle, nervous that their pals are getting closer and closer, is up there with slide-kick-shotgunning and dual-pistol-side-diving on the list of Cool Ways To Kill Virtual Men. So here, CI Games have announced Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3, and they want this one to be a little less cheap and cheerful.
RPS Feature The game so average it doesn't want you to play
Lords of the Fallen is the first of what will surely be many clones of the Souls games – which is great! I adore the Souls series and think the action-RPG genre could learn a tonne from them. Lords of the Fallen, unfortunately, is not the brightest child in the class, and more to the point the PC version is currently in a right old state. Hero Harkyn faces tonnes of nasties, but the worst of the lot is the game itself.
RPS Feature In this WORLD even CAPITAL LETTERS go ROGUE
I’m not usually one to judge a book by its cover, so to speak, but the capitalisation of LORDS of the FALLEN just has me tickled. It suggests we should shout the first word but then drop to a whisper and, when listeners are lulled into a false sense of security, scream the last syllables like a BANSHEE. If you’re thinking ‘only an angry nutter would do that’ then welcome, my genteel friend, to LORDS of the FALLEN.
RPS Feature Call of Duty dutifully recalled
During the 11 hours I’ve spent with this CryEngined WW2 shooter so far, I’ve had 4671 separate thoughts. Here are 50 of the most telling.
#2038. I’ve just hacked a man to death with his own entrenching tool. I’m not sure I should be feeling quite this gleeful.
#2099. Player-protagonist Robert Hawkins has the personality of a sandbag, but better a bland hero than an irritating one.
#1775. Look Mum, I’m in The Heroes of Telemark!
#1690. Look Dad, I’m in Where Eagles Dare! Read the rest of this entry »
