Bug your pals: Ghost Recon Wildlands beta pre-loading

Welcome to the jungle.

Pre-loading has started for the Ghost Recon Wildlands [official site] closed beta test that’ll kick off tomorrow. Keys are still going out in waves so if you signed up for a chance to play, check the beta registration page to see your status. If you haven’t signed up, hey, folks who are accepted do get to invite three of their pals too, so start bugging your warbuds. Wildlands is curious one, taking the open-world style of modern Far Cries, taking it to third-person tactical action, giving you squadmates, and amping up the imperialism. Gameplay videos make it look a bit of a lark, at least. Read the rest of this entry »

For Honor closed beta cutting into the end of January

Our Alec had a lark when he romped around stabbing knights and samurai as a viking (a viqueen?) in Ubisoft’s sword ’em up For Honor [official site] and soon more of us will get a go. Ahead of For Honor’s launch on February 14th, Ubi have announced a closed beta test will run from January 26th to the 29th – and you can sign up for a chance to get in. Murders! Deal Me In: Witcher’s Gwent Standalone Hits Closed Beta

Oh sure, Pokémon Go players may be pests, hanging around congested pavements and getting in the way, but they’ve nothing on Gwent players. Imagine if they asked you – all of them asked you – if you had any Gwent cards to sell and they bugged you for battles. Insufferable. NPCs in The Witcher 3 must’ve groaned every time they saw Geralt wandering the streets, deck in hand and a hopeful look on his face.

Thankfully, the free-to-play standalone spin-off Gwent: The Witcher Card Game [official site] will be more Hearthstone than Pokémon Go, with no strolling or nagging. We’ve no word yet on when Gwent will launch but it is now in closed beta, if you’re feeling lucky. Read the rest of this entry »

SimCity Headed To Demo Beta Town Next Week

Recently, I think we’ve seen a fairly wide shift back to treating beta tests like, well, tests. Admittedly, things still get a little dicey when games like MechWarrior Online or, most notoriously, The War Z charge for early admittance, sometimes barely disguising toothy bear traps of vague terminology. In short, “foundation release.” But I digress. Apparently, SimCity didn’t get the memo, because its closed beta will be three days long. Is it a glorified demo? Probably. But oh well. You still (maybe) get to strap into your snazzy mayoral suspenders for a weekend, and Maxis will come away with some form of valuable data, at least. Details on registration and content after the break.

CLOSEDBETAFACE

This is completely inaccurate! The Nintendo 3DS so doesn't require 3D glasses. Get it together, Crytek. Jeez.

Here at RPS, we like to have a little fun every once in a while, but it’s time for real talk: Warface is no laughing matter. It afflicts several billion people per day, and chronic Warface has stumped even the techno-magic of modern medicine for years. Recently, it took Alec from us. Now he just sits in a corner all day, banging his head against the wall and mumbling about how he “must forever live in the shadow of his own Sistine Chapel.” And well, you’ve seen what it does to RPS comment threads. Really, it’s a misnomer: Warface is actually a disease of the mind. An apparition of the soul. Friends don’t let friends face Warface face war war war face far wace wa rface w arfac e.

W… who am I? I’ve suddenly forgotten everything about myself. Oh, but I do have this note saying Warface is now in closed beta. Seems innocent enough.

Prepare To March Into The Ghost Recon Online Beta

"I'm terrified beyond the capacity for rational thought."
Subliminal message warning: Ubisoft have just announced the closed beta of Ghost Recon Online kicks off next month. That month? March. See how I snuck it into the headline? You already knew before you got to the story. The first raft of Ghosts will be let into the secretive world of the closed beta on the fifth of next month. You can sign up here and pray you’re chosen. I’m quite looking forward to running around pretending to be a ghost. Bagsy Slimer! There’s a video to run alongside the announcement. I’m about to watch it for the first time, so do join me.
