Day of Infamy gets one of those free weekends on Oct 12

Infamy, infamy, they've all got it: infamy

More like days of infamy. A whole weekend of infamy. A holiday of infamy. The team-based world war II shooter Day of Infamy [official site] is seeking to dig some trenches in your Steam account with a free weekend from October 12-16 . Perhaps developers New World Interactive are aware that Call of Duty: WW2 will be parachuting into its territory come early November and are seeking to set up some resistance to this invader. Or perhaps they are just seeking to rescue the last lovers of realistic shooters from the beaches before the wacky warriors of CoD show up to capture them all. Read the rest of this entry »

Day of Infamy adds two free maps, including Dunkirk

21dunkirk

You might have heard that a little film called Dunkirk has just come out. The folk at New World Interactive certainly have: they’ve updated their hardcore WW2 shooter Day of Infamy [official site] with two new maps, one of which is – you guessed it – the beaches of Dunkirk.

The Dunkirk map fights from the fields, through the streets, and to the beach. The other new map depicts the Battle of Breville, which in real life saw British paratroopers liberate the village of Bréville-les-Monts in France just after after D-Day.

Bonza! Day of Infamy adds Black Panthers and Aussies

Yeah yeah, Call of Duty is returning to World War 2 but Day of Infamy [official site] is already there. Now developers New World Interactive (you might know ’em for Insurgency) have invited more people to the war, launching a free update adding soldiers including Scotland’s Black Watch, the African-American Black Panthers tank battalion, and those rowdy Australians. Yesterday’s update also brought one new maps, a new gun, and some other odds and ends to the WW2 FPS. To cap it all off, Day of Infamy is on sale right now too. Here, look at this bloody ripper: Read the rest of this entry »

Call of Duty is unlikely to get WWII “right”

“Those who do not learn from from history, are doomed to make another World War II videogame.” A famous saying, and one we all know well. So when Activision hosted a live presentation for the reveal trailer of their latest shooter, Call of Duty: WWII [official site], I watched and felt nothing but a tired wave of low-burning resentment for everyone involved. During this presentation the word “visceral” was said a total of eight times and our own news editor Alice silently got up from her desk, walked solemnly out of her house, and never returned. If anyone has seen Alice, please call us. Read the rest of this entry »

Day of Infamy shoots its way out of early access

“Infamy! Infamy! They’ve all got it infamy!” is one of the best jokes of all time. It is also what I screamed as I was repeatedly gunned down in World War II shooter Day of Infamy [official site] while playing the early access version.

Fans of murdering me from afar with a scoped rifle will rejoice that the game has just now busted out into a proper release, fully baked and ready to storm some beaches. You can see what kind of terrible conflict you can create in the trailer below.

Day of Infamy launching properly this month

Day of Infamy [official site], their World War 2 spin-off from modern-day semi-serious FPS Insurgency, will leave early access and officially launch on March 23rd. That’s the word this week from developers New World Interactive. Our Brendan Prematurely Evaluated Day of Infamy in August 2016 and had a gay old time capturing points, shooting faces, relaying messages by radio, and, accidentally calling artillery barrages down upon his own team. Oh dear. Read the rest of this entry »

Premature Evaluation: Day of Infamy

Every Monday, Brendan heads to the frontlines of early access and writes about his heroic battles there. This week, he repeatedly fires upon his own team in multiplayer shooter Day of Infamy.

In an age of Overwatches and hyper-CoDs it’s easy to forget that every first-person shooter was once set inside a single trench of World War II. Returning to this battlefield might seem like a terrible idea to some who’ve served their time in the hellish artillery bombardments of yesteryear. But I never played Day of Defeat, the Half-Life mod upon which this new WWII outing is based. So fumbling with grenades in the mud and snow of the Western front is something I was happy to do. I even tried my hand at commanding the other men. Which obviously resulted in everyone being disintegrated into thousands of tiny pieces.

DoDy: WW2 FPS Day Of Infamy Invades Early Access

Valve seemingly have little interest in making a new Day of Defeat but they are at least letting someone else have a crack. Now on Steam Early Access is Day of Infamy [official site], a World War 2 multiplayer FPS heavily inspired by Day of Defeat – and made with Valve’s blessings and support. Infamy is the work of New World Interactive, the folks who made modern military FPS Insurgency. They’re trying to pick up where Day of Defeat left off, basically. Here, have a gander:

DoD-y Day Of Infamy Goes Commercial With Valve’s Help

Day of Infamy [official site], the Insurgency mod unashamedly based on Valve’s WW2 FPS Day of Defeat, is becoming a standalone commercial game – with Valve’s blessing. Insurgency devs New World Interactive started Day of Infamy as a free mod made with the help of community members, releasing the first version earlier this year. Now they’re expanding it into a full and proper standalone game on the Source Engine, and with Valve’s support they’re even making a few levels based on ones from Day of Defeat. It’ll start on Steam Early Access next month. Here’s the announcement trailer:

Insurgency Launches Free DoD-y Mod Day Of Infamy

Modern-day military FPS Insurgency [official site] now has a World War 2 military FPS lurking inside it, like a matryoshka doll made from bullets. Insurgency developers New World Interactive built the foundations of mod Day of Infamy themselves but have opened it up to players to expand it. Yes, obviously it is inspired by Day of Defeat. Infamy required a beta client when it first launched in mid-January, but as of a few days ago it’s compatible with the game’s main branch for everyone to easily play.
