Plunkbat servers crash in first 24 hours of 50 player deathmatch

Bluehole ran into a serious issue this week, as their servers crashed 24 hours into the return of their 50 player deathmatch mode. Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds War was the temporary return of the team deathmatch from last month, which breaks from PUBG’s traditional ‘once you’re gone you’re gone’ structure and allows you to respawn. There are ten teams of five and everyone starts with top-tier loot. Or, would start with top-tier loot, if anyone was able to connect to the game. Desert Knights mode was supposed to run until the end of the weekend, but had to be yanked by Friday afternoon after a Thursday night launch.

Overwatch adding deathmatch to Arcade lineup

Deathmatch is finally coming to Overwatch [official site] as a side mode. For players who simply want to run around shooting people, paying no heed to any objectives, free-for-all and team deathmatch modes are being added to the Arcade lineup of rotating game modes. Oh sure, do it now, Overwatch has only suffered a year of those jerks ignoring the objective. Some existing maps have been modified for deathmatch, and Blizzard have purpose-made a new deathmatch map set in Widowmaker’s family estate in France. Doom Update Brings Deathmatch, Private Matches

Free-for-all deathmatch has been the foundation of multiplayer in id Software’s shooters since, well, since they started making them, yet somehow D44m [official site] launched without it. Didn’t even get a half-hearted note from their mum (in handwriting suspiciously similar to their own) saying demons stole their deathmatch and threw it on top of the bikesheds. Well, deathmatch has finally arrived in D44m with the launch of Update 3 last night. That also brought support for Private Matches, where you can pick modes and settings as you play with your pals, along with bug fixes and such.
