Destiny 2 PC stuttering fix coming today

A cheeky little hotfix patch is coming to Destiny 2 today to fix a framerate stuttering bug caused by, er, the previous hotfix. It’s a small patch but the eyemashing of hitching frames can really make a game irritating or difficult to play, so it needs fixing sharpish. And that’s what Hotfix 1.0.6.2 will do today. Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris expansion announced

Heroic Destiny header

Gather round, Destineers, and take a look at the trailer for Destiny 2‘s first expansion. The new stuff doesn’t start until around 20 seconds in, where we see everyone’s favourite Guardian stroll up to Ikora for a chat about “an ancient gate” that’s opened on Mercury, where “an army of past and future machines amasses”. Looks like The Curse of Osiris will be a… Vex-pansion!

Sorry. You can watch the trailer for yourself after the jump.

Destiny 2 players will get ‘better rewards’ from Strikes and PvP, says Bungie

destiny2

Destiny 2’s PC launch means that the developers at Bungie will be focusing on maintenance, and to kick things off game director Christopher Barrett has confirmed some of the improvements and tweaks that were announced at TwitchCon. There’s a mix of end-game features, more “incentives” and rewards for playing Strikes and firefighting in the Crucible’s PvP, as well as some additional ways to spend in-game currency. Bungie has banned 400 Destiny 2 players on PC, but some of them have been overturned

destiny2bans

Update: Last night, after a day of confusion over a slew of Destiny 2 bans, Bungie clarified a few things. The developer said that around 400 players were banned on PC for using tools that were a “threat to the shared ecosystem of the game”, which implies tools used to cheat or harass other players, though no specifics were offered.

Destiny 2 PC: a few issues to know before you play

destiny-pc-problems

Destiny 2’s out on PC at last, and a whole red legion full of people are currently enjoying their first rides on its conveyor belt of deadly death. While, by and large, this seems to be a very well-done PC edition of a console shooter – and one that runs very well on minimum hardwware too – there are a few flies in Bungie’s latest ointment that might give you pause if you’re considering putting your Guardian hat on this close to launch. And I don’t just mean the mystery bans. Below are a bunch of issues that make life a little harder than it ought to be, and suggestions for what to do about most of them.

Wot I Think: Destiny 2

destinyreview10

It’s 4AM and I’m whispering with strangers in the dark. I found them online through a private channel, arranged a meeting in secret, and set my alarm to wake under cover of night. We’ve already got a plan, but we need to talk it through, to get on board with each other. We need to make sure we won’t get caught this time.

I promised my wife I’d stop doing this, but these are the sacrifices I have to make in order to finish Destiny 2’s Leviathan raid.

Is Destiny 2’s story tasty junk food or hot trash?

"You are in the pain hotel...and it's time to... *check out*"

Destiny 2 is out on PC today, bringing Bungie’s space killin’ to even more folks. Matt and Brendan have been zapping aliens and robots on the sly (aka the PS4), but they’ve had different reactions to the story and dialogue of this first-person blockbuster. Matt is fond of space wizardry but Brendan is gagging at each and every line. What better place to have a constructive chat about this disagreement than The Internet?

Brendan: Hello Matthew. I’m using your full name because I’m preparing to be a condescending spoilsport who will tell you to stop liking the thing you are currently liking. Let’s go!

Matt: Hello Brendy! I’m being more colloquial because I’m hoping to inject some joy into your cold, dead heart.

The PC version of Destiny 2 is out now

Destiny 2

It’s 6pm over here in ol’ Blighty, which means that according to this handy launch-times map Bungie’s zeitgeist-wrangling online FPS Destiny 2 is available to play on PC. For those who preordered and preloaded, your copy of the game should be unlocking just about now, assuming the servers haven’t burst into flames, of course.

If you’ve not preordered and are still wondering what all the fuss is about, check out the PC launch trailer after the jump, and see the game described by many Destiny fans as “It’s way better now!” and by some of the original game’s detractors as “Actually good this time.”. High praise, for sure.

You can pre-load Destiny 2 now, if you’re into that

"You MUST stop the Cabal, Guardian. It is.... your DESTINY 2."

“There is no greater love,” sang the late Amy Winehouse, “than what I feel for shooting hostile robots in their glowing stomachs.” If you also can’t get enough of sci-fi space shooting, then you’ll be happy to learn that Destiny 2 [official site] can be pre-loaded now. That’s a whole five days ahead of its release on October 24. On top of that, here’s the exact times you can start playing. Activision aren’t taking any chances, are they?

Destiny 2 PC system requirements finalised

As Bungie wind up to launch Destiny 2 [official site] for PC on October 24th, they have finalised the system requirements. These are basically the same as the open beta version demanded, though now Bungie go into helpful extra detail on alternatives. Will you be able to play with your chums or is it your destiny to miss out? Destiny, yeah? Wordplay. Look, I’m told people like puns. No, I agree that puns are awful. Yes, I realise the irony of saying that while working for RPS. No, I don’t mean irony in an Alanis Morissette way. All I really want is for you to read the system requirements and be happy. God, no, that wasn’t meant to be an Alanis Morissette joke. You oughta know. Read the rest of this entry »

Podcast: Destiny 2, Steamworld Dig 2 and binge gaming

'ello Traveller

Oh heavens look at you, you’ve been bingeing on videogames again. Pumping platformers into your veins and shoving shooters into your piehole. That’s fine, so have we. This week’s edition of the RPS podcast, the Electronic Wireless Show, is all about binge gaming. Alec joins us to talk about chomping down on numbers-go-up alien-zapper Destiny 2, which Adam has also been gorging on. Meanwhile, I’ve been happily dig-dugging my way through robotic metroidvania Steamworld Dig 2, which as far as I’m concerned is far healthier and wiser.

Together alone: a misanthrope’s guide to Destiny 2

destiny-2-singleplayer

Destiny 2 [official site], Bungie’s game of unblinking science-fictional loot acquisition, is due on PC later this month, but it’s already enjoyed a few apparently very successful weeks of online robot-bothering and gun-collecting on console. The Destiny games are most heavily associated with players working together to take down big bosses and obtain the hardest-won loot, but there’s a certain sect of us who aren’t as comfortable communicating with strangers over a microphone. What does Destiny 2 have for us, the folk who like to think of ourselves as too-cool-for-school loners but are considered to be miserable, uncooperative gits by everyone else?

Destiny 2: No-fuss engrams, guided game beta and ridic live action trailer

Destiny 2

Is “reminds me a bit of Power Rangers” an emotion? Because I’m watching the live-action Destiny 2 [official site] trailer and that’s the main sensation it’s generating. Further emotions include “You could have actually done a full homage to the official video for Sabotage starring Destiny characters and I think that would have worked but you didn’t and why would you not?” and “shut up Cayde-6, you’re overexposed right now”. Podcast: The Electronic Wireless Show talks Destiny 2, Absolver and XCOM 2: War of the Chosen

If on a winter's night a Traveller

Hark, it’s the sweet vocal vibrations of the humble RPS podcast, the Electronic Wireless Show. The lads (lads lads) are back from the bright lights of Gamescom and ready to chat hard about the games they saw. But Pip is only giving us a maximum of three words about each one. Madness. Never mind, we can talk more verbosely about the alien-shooting of the Destiny 2 beta, or the otherworldly kickboxing of Absolver, or the other-alien-shooting of XCOM 2: War of the Chosen. It’s been quite a good week.

Destiny 2: Judging the game from the beta is an impossible prospect

Destiny

Once upon a time (like, 9.30am BST) Adam popped up on work Slack chat and asked if I could spend two days playing the Destiny 2’s [official site] PC beta. 2 Days 2 Destiny, if you will.

I would.

Here is my report after a few hours! I’ll update it with more thinking if and when it occurs to me or if I want to show off a particular quadrakill and pretend it’s news or something. There are mild spoilers ahead but a) I don’t think it’s anything you won’t have seen on various livestreams or at events if you’ve been paying attention to those and b) Bungie have set the whole story bit of the beta up so it cuts off before you get any answers – only questions.
