How to play Dragon’s Dogma Online wherever you are

ddoheader

Ah, Dragon’s Dogma [official site], gem of Capcom’s slightly weird early 201X lineup. The familiar alliteration in the title wasn’t coincidence; Dragon’s Dogma was Capcom’s take on classic D&D, circa 1990. A fully player-designed party, a threadbare plot, a semi-open world full of dungeons, loot, levelling and a few dragons, too, and all tied together with a physics’y, tactile action combat engine fresh out of the Capcom forges, allowing for the kind of dramatic combat that would drive a DM to despair as they consult the arcane rules behind grappling.

In 2015 Dragon’s Dogma Online took the series online in a sequel of sorts, but as the third season of that game approaches, there’s still no sign of an English language release. Fear not though because with a little bit of tinkering, you can jump in right now, and there’s a fan translation in progress that you can enjoy the early parts of already. Here’s how to play and why you should.

Best PC gaming deals of the week

Another week has gone by and with it came the news of Destiny 2, a Witcher TV show and a whole stack of new gaming deals to check out. Conveniently enough, I’m here to take a closer look at that last thing and it’s about the only thing that’s keeping me from playing more Prey. Without further hesitation, let’s go ahead and check out what’s on offer this week, shall we?

As usual, we’ve got deals that’ll work in the UK, deals that’ll work in the US and some deals that will work in both the UK and US, as well as presumably many other places. Let’s get started.

Steam Game Charts: Cause For Celebration

Change! Actual change! Other than, y’know, the three games that are here every single week, every single week I have to include them, every single week, they’re there, undying, changing, every single week, every single week.

Yeah! It’s the top ten best-selling games on Steam last week.

Have You Played…Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen?

Have You Played? is an endless stream of game retrospectives. One a day, every day of the year, perhaps for all time.

Just to get this one out of the way early, I love Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen [official site]. I can’t think of another game I was more excited to see liberated from its tortured existence on the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. But performance issues aside, Dragon’s Dogma was the kind of experiment I wish more companies would be willing to take—and from Capcom of all places!

Wot I Think: Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen

Originally released on PS3/Xbox 360 back in 2012 and then updated to Dark Arisen in 2013, Dragon’s Dogma [official site] is a tough game to pigeon-hole. It’s a bit Dark Souls, a bit The Witcher, a bit Skyrim, and a bit Shadow of the Colossus. But is it a bit good, especially coming to us after a generational upgrade? Here’s Wot I Think.

Every Dogma Has Its Day: Dragon’s Dogma Out Jan 15th

When I watch trailers for Dragon’s Dogma [official site], I’m not quite sure what I’m all excited about. It looks like a hacky and slashy RPG with some big ol’ monsters and a full party system, and that’s fine, but what makes it stand out from the pack? It’s the voices of friends who played the console release that elevate it rather than anything in the videos – someone once told me that Dragon’s Dogma is like a party-based Dark Souls and I was sold there and then.

And that’s why I’m excited that this latest trailer reveals that the game comes to PC on January 15th, even though the trailer itself isn’t all that exciting.

Dragon’s Dogma Trailer Clambers Up A Cyclops

Capcom’s party-based action-RPG Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen [official site] sounds great, from what I’ve heard, a weird new surprise from a company who spend too long mining former glories. I’m sold simply on the idea of you and your AI pals clambering up big beasties to stab soft spots, really. I was writing for a multiplatform site when Dragon’s Dogma first came out on consoles, so I’ve seen a whole lot of it, but maybe you haven’t? Here, watch this new video that’s somewhere between an introduction and a collection of tips:

Capcom RPG Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen Heads To PC

Unexpected and welcome news has just reached us from Capcom HQ. No, we’re not going to get a Megaman Battle Network Legacy collection on PC but there is a port incoming – intriguing RPG Dragon’s Dogma [official site], in its expanded Dark Arisen edition, will be landing on PC in January.

“The PC version will feature stunningly high-res graphics and improved fidelity, as well as support for both the Xbox 360 and Xbox One controllers, as well as a traditional keyboard and mouse control scheme.”

It’s a fantasy RPG with AI controlled party members who are referred to as “pawns”. I haven’t played it but I have a soft spot for it already because one person I know, who has terrible taste in everything, thinks it’s a load of cobblers.
