The 23 best VR games for PC

Here they are then – the best games to play in virtual reality…and those games are “watching football,” “drinking”, “a nice cup of tea”, “fleeting emotional connection to another human being” and all those other everyday activities you believe to be real, as opposed than a simulation you have been experiencing since you first plugged your frail, mollusc-like form into a headset 19 years ago. SPOOKS!

But, should you persist in maintaining this fantasy, let’s go one level deeper and talk about the entertaining, satisfying or otherwise nifty games available for what is the current VR state-of-the-art in your imagined world: the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. Wot I Think: Eagle Flight

I find myself dreaming of world without humans. Where we have fought our wars, done our damage and in the process been eradicated entirely. No more than we deserve. Ubisoft’s First VR Game, Eagle Flight, Is Out

Big publishers have been cautious about virtual reality but are starting to dip their toes into the cyberpool now PlayBoxes are floating in it too. Ubisoft have a few VR games coming and this week launched their very first, Eagle Flight [official site]. It’s a fly ’em up set over (and through and under) the verdant ruins of post-humanity Paris, soaring as an eagle in singleplayer explore-o-challenge mode and multiplayer capture the flag. VR-o-rama: Ubi Date Star Trek, Eagle Flight, Werewolf

While most big publishers are being conservative about the latest virtual reality fad – unsurprising, given that cybergoggles can cost you eight hundred chuffing quid – Ubisoft are diving right into the cyberpool. Ubi already making eight-player VR games, which seems a touch optimistic. But hey, you need games to spread hardware, so points for effort! Today Ubi announced release dates across October, November, and December for their first three big VR games: the long-time-ago-in-a-galaxy-far-away co-op spaceship ’em up Star Trek: Bridge Crew [official site], the free-flying Eagle Flight [official site, and the party game adaptation Werewolves Within [official site].

Ian Ubisoft, is this here virtual reality bird game Eagle Flight [official site] you’ve just announced set in a version of the Paris you created for Assassin’s Creed Unity? If not, you should do stuff like that. If so, splendid! Share your cities and worlds freely around the Ubioffices, let people play and make weird things out all of them. A game about eagles exploring and fighting in the skies above a post-humanity Paris is a fair start, but let’s go further.
