Watch The Sinking City devs ponder how to demonstrate the Lovecraftian investigation

I’m glad to see more of The Sinking City, the Lovecraft-inspired investigative horror game being made by Sherlock Holmes studio Frogwares. Wandering and boating around a half-flooded city to poke into mysteries of terrible and unknowable beings sounds great to me. I’ve not heard much from it in a while but, with The Sinking City set to launch later this year, Frogwares are starting showing it at shows. A new developer video walks through the process of creating a show demo – which, as you may or may not know, is rarely as simple as just cutting off a slice of the game. Win tickets for EGX Rezzed 2018 and see us talk to the developer of Into The Breach

EGX Rezzed is just over a month away, and announcements for things to see and do at the lovely games event are coming thick and fast. For example: this post, in which I let slip that Adam will be on stage during the show to talk to Subset Games’ co-founder Matthew Davis about his work on mech strategy game Into The Breach.

If you’re interested in hearing Davis speak about the game, then I’ve got more news: we’ve got five pairs of super passes to give away. You can enter below for a chance to win. Read the rest of this entry »

Rezzed lines up six more games including Disco Elysium

Are you going to the glittering Imperial city of London next month for games show EGX Rezzed? I’m not. I’ve got a stag weekend in Madrid where I’m expected to play Gaelic football with a crowd of storming drunks. Trust me, you’re better off in the bright glass hallways of Tobacco Dock, especially now that six more games have been added to the line-up, including Disco Elysium, the surreal isometric adventure formerly known as No Truce With The Furies. We’re talking with Truck Simulator devs at Rezzed

Our Adam once told a story in the RPS treehouse about meeting with folks from Truck Simulator developers SCS Software, who were surprised and somewhat confused by how much we’re into their virtuatrucks in totally non-ironic ways as chillout games. We really are. (Well, when we’re not modding horns into alien wails.) You’ll get to see this encounter happen again live on stage in April at EGX Rezzed, the London games show run by our corporate siblings, as Adam will host an interview with two SCS fellas. Mavericks: Proving Grounds talking 400-player battle royale at Rezzed

What do you get if you cross a video games show with a 400-player battle royale game? A newly-announced session at EGX Rezzed in April where a developer will gab about the upcoming Mavericks: Proving Grounds. The Plunk ’em up will use Improbable’s much-vaunted SpatialOS cloud server technology for fancy features like trackable persistent footprints and destructible buildings, so even if you’re not interested in battling royale you might enjoy nodding along and murmuring “Ah yes, building games in the sky, truly we live in the future.” Read the rest of this entry »

Phoenix Point will be playable at EGX Rezzed

Our corporate siblings who run EGX Rezzed go on about how it’s a games show with all sorts of video games to play and talks to hear, but in reality it’s a front. Rezzed exists because we believe you will pay money to breathe the same air as RPS staffers, getting some of our air inside you and some of yours in us, but both sides are too embarrassed to publicly acknowledge that. So sure, okay, let’s keep up the facade. For example: Rezzed today announced more of the games playable in London this April, including X-COM co-creator Jullian Gollop’s fine-looking grid ’em up Phoenix Point. Read the rest of this entry »

EGX Rezzed 2018 unveils Leftfield Collection lineup

The best part of EGX Rezzed, the London-based games event in April run by our corporate siblings, is always the Leftfield Collection. I don’t know if The Man will allow me to say that, but it is. Come at me, The Man. Meet me in the car park and bring HR to referee. Leftfield is the showcase of smaller and stranger games curated by Feral Vector head honcho David Hayward, and it always has a pleasingly wide range of games. The Man today announced this year’s Leftfield lineup and yup, it’s a goodun. The fact that I don’t recognise half the games myself is exciting. Go, see, play, find out. Read the rest of this entry »

Hey, devs! EGX Rezzed 2018’s Leftfield Collection submission are now open

Hey, you: do you make video games? If so, nice. Thanks. Thank you for the video games. Keep it up. A follow-up: perhaps consider submitting your game for inclusion in the Leftfield Collection at EGX Rezzed in London next year. Rezzed is a games show organised by our adoptive corporate parent Gamer Network, and Leftfield is the best bit. It brings together, and I quote, “independently developed games and game-like projects that often defy genre classification.” Perhaps your game might fit? It’s free to submit games to the Leftfield so mebbe give it a think. Read the rest of this entry »
