Evochron Legacy Blasts Off Into Sandbox Space

I’ve always been impressed that sandbox space sim series Evochron is mostly the work of one man, StarWraith’s Shawn Bower. Heck, I’m even more impressed now big names and big budgets have now returned to space sims as points of comparison. I’m awful at Evochron–always floundering and giving up in demos–but I’m glad it exists.

So hey, look, Evochron Legacy [official site] came out this week. It has a demo too.

Space Demo! Space Video! Arvoch Alliance

we break for nobody

It’s all been dragoning and mining and dildo-waving and warfaring this week, so let us not forget that there are many other places videogames can visit. Arvoch Alliance, follow up to the Evochron games, purports to be “the definitive 3D space combat game.” I do like a bit of space combat, although all the talk of Newtonian physics and an incredibly elaborate targeting system has me immediately worried I may be fluffy for this one. Find out for yourself though: a svelte 250MB demo is out now, as is the full game. But what does it look like, a man perhaps once bellowed in mild confusion at his cold, unresponsive monitor? Mission Ready: Evochron Mercenary

The latest in the Evochron freeform space flight series has just been launched. Entitled Evochron Mercenary, it adds a bunch of new features to the existing universe. Here’s one of the most exciting elements of the new game:

The new multiplayer system offers in-game voice chat and supports group territory control, letting players join together to conquer solar systems for profit. The in-game quadrant map provides real-time territory control data and credit is given for each Clan-vs-Clan kill and completed cooperative contract. Controlling clans must defend their territory from other clans who can take the systems for themselves. Players can construct stations in newly discovered systems to expand their empires and introduce new trade locations, AI pathways, and resources to expand the game’s universe.

You can grab the demo from here, and I’ve posted the most recent trailer below.

Make Space For: Evochron Mercenary

A new version of Evochron, this time called Evochron Mercenary, has just been released announced for the autumn. It’s another iteration of StarWraith’s ongoing 3D freeform space sim project, this time with a reworked graphics engine, and some serious new options for multiplayer, including player-built (and destroyed) structures for multiplayer games. Seems interesting, and I’m going to take a closer look when we can get hold of a copy. Trailer showing a bunch of the new stuff is embedded below decks.
