F1 2018 racing out in August

Codemasters today announced that F1 2018, the latest annual sequel in their series of competitive pootling games based piss-takingly loosely on the popular Top Gear segment ‘Star in a Reasonably Priced Car’, will launch on August 24th. This year’s game will bring an old feature back to Career mode, add more classic cars, and… other stuff. Codies aren’t saying yet. They’re not even showing screenshots yet. But I will go out on a limb and guess that it’s broadly the same as last year’s game, looking a little fancier, updating liveries and tracks, and tweaking some bits. You know, annual sequel stuff. F1 2015 is free for keeps right now on Steam

f12015

Formula One fans should take note of this small window of opportunity where, not only can you play F1 2015 for free, but it will remain in your Steam library permanently. I’m not sure what else you need to read about it? You click a button and have a free forever game. It is yours. Like so many other Steam games you own, you never even have to install it. It can remain on a list that haunts you, reminding you of Steam sales gone by where you spent hard earned money for digital experiences you’ll never even find the time to touch; entire worlds you’ve promised to visit but will ignore, casting them into some electronic purgatory from whence they cry out to you in the night.

Anyhow, this is a game about racing cars. They go real fast.

** NOTE: …and just as fast as the cars, this free game promotion and sale have already ended. Well. There’s that. **

Classic car in F1 2017 appears to be modder’s work

Formulaic

Get ready for a copyright-related headache, friends. One of the most iconic cars in Formula One racing sim F1 2017 appears to be the work of a modder for a completely different racing game, Assetto Corsa.

The car – Michael Schumacher’s Ferrari F2002 – was reproduced by modder Somchith Vongprachanh last year for players of the Italian-made racing sim. But in May this year he saw a trailer for Codemasters’ latest F1 racer, which featured the same iconic car, and felt that the particular 3D model shown off by the developers had some troubling similarities to his own work. Parp parp! F1 2017 gets new liveries, AI improvements

Codemasters today called F1 2017 [official site] into the pit to polish and refuel their racing game with a new update. Version 1.9 has brought updated liveries for cars and drivers, a LAN mode, AI improvements, a new UI for spectator mode, and bug fixes and bits. Pictures of the shiny new liveries are included in the v1.9 patch notes. Hit that for the full blast but here are some little bits I’ve pulled out: Read the rest of this entry »

Steam Charts: Half Price Edition!

Other sites will bombard you with “facts” and “details” about the top-selling games on Steam, but not us. We won’t patronise you with such things. We know you’re better than that, taller, more attractive than the readers of those sites. We know you know we know you better, and as such reach for higher, smarter, more eloquent brilliance. Chain, keep us together: F1 2017 released

F1 2017 [official site], Codemasters’ latest annual adaptation of The Chain by Fleetwood Mac, roared off the grid this morning. Once again, the avant-garde artgame uses fast cars to represent throbbing basslines and lyrical concepts such as running in the shadows, damning your love, and damning your lies. I can’t say I feel Codies’ interpretation in my heart own but hey, who am I to judge how a song feels to them? You can’t say they don’t commit to the metaphor, as they’ve released an update every year since 2009. And if you don’t love me now… Read the rest of this entry »
