Sow Your Seeds: Farming Simulator 17 Released

I do like that PC gaming now has a spectrum of imaginary farming from Stardew Valley to Farming Simulator 17 [official site]. If have lazy daydreams about a magical new life in the country as a farmer/explorer/lover, look to Stardew. If names like Massey Fergy send a chill down your spine and you dream of ploughing perfect furrows, yeah, it’s Farm Sim for you. The latest version launched last night, bringing more simulated agriculture with ploughing, planting, harvesting, transporting, and dicking about racing harvesters through town with your pals in multiplayer. No, Ryelly: Dead Island Devs Announce Pure Farming

Hope you've been saving your plasma gun ammo for this boss battle!

Techland, the Polish studio behind high-action first-person shooters including Dead Island, Call of Juarez, and Dying Light, have announced they’re making a farming simulator. Pure Farming 17: The Simulator [official site] will be a serious farm ’em up, no zombies or nothing as far as I know. Though I do believe that techno-organic monster teased in the announcement trailer, as shown ↑ up top, may be the final boss.

Gold! (Gold!) Farming Simulator 15 Expansion Released

Farming Simulator is a triumph of earnestness. I’ve known a few people who gave it a try because it was a kooky ironic gag for a while, with all those montage parody videos, only to discover they actually quite enjoyed simulating farming. Stick that in your vapewand and smoke it, ‘irony’. If you too know the pleasures of tilling virtual soil and want more farms and more farming, you may now sow your seed further afield.

The ‘Gold’ expansion for Farming Simulator 15 [official site] launched today, bringing a new Eastern European farm and oodles of new vehicles.

The 25 Best Simulation Games Ever Made

Ready to discover once-and-for-all whether X-Plane is better than FSX? Whether Falcon 4.0 is better than Milk Float Simulator 2012? Ready to read the word ‘realism’ 46 times in a single hour, and spit feathers on discovering that the sim that caused got you through your divorce has been cruelly cold-shouldered by an idiot with a bus fetish and a sci-fi blindspot the size of the Crab Nebula? You are? Splendid. You’re in the right place.

The Flare Path: A Ponce In A Ponsse

Forestry was one of the industries the Industrial Revolution forgot. The tools used by a British forestry worker at the start of the Twentieth Century would have been instantly recognizable to a forestry worker of 1700. It would be another two decades before the oil dripping, smoke breathing dragon of progress appeared in the UK’s pine stands and oak woods. First came the lumbering tractor, then the chainsaw, an increasingly portable petrol-fuelled marvel that quickly saw off the crosscut saw and eventually banished the axe too. Finally, in the 1990s, something truly remarkable arrived. A machine that, in favourable terrain, made a hard-working chainsaw flourisher look like a hopeless slacker, an anachronism, an irrelevance. Chop Chop: Farming Simulator 15’s Forestry

You can't run, tree.

Perhaps this is because I’m a city slicker, but I find something about this Farming Simulator 15 trailer very sinister. It’s showing off this year’s new woodcutting gear, and to me they all look like implements for terrible murder. One vehicle has a mighty arm for grabbing tall, thin, upright things and tugging them through a cruel mechanism stripping off limbs and sawing them into segments. A chainsaw to chase escapees down on foot. A chipper to Fargo what’s left.

Shhh, tree. Be quiet now. Good trees stand very still, tall and strong. Do you know what happens to bad trees, trees which run and scream and trample my corn? Be a good tree.

Agrarian Game Again: Farming Simulator 2015 Trailer

It’s the time of year for ‘revealing’ seemingly inevitable yearly sequels; first Football Manager 2015 and now the similarly field-based Farming Simulator 2015. Only one game can reasonably lay claim to the feature “BREED YOUR CATTLE”, though. The first, very pretty trailer is below.
