Fire Pro Wrestling World is great in-ring but lacks depth

Fire Pro Wrestling World [official site] is the indy high-flyer who has been wowing crowds all over the world. Maybe you were lucky enough to see her live years ago in a small out-of-town venue, where she was the clear stand-out in an underwhelming show. Maybe you just heard the buzz and envied friends who were lucky enough to catch her in action.

Well, now you can see the magic for yourself. After a long absence, Fire Pro is back and on PC for the first time. it’s not all good news though: the in-ring abilities are as dazzling and technically sound as ever, but a wrestler is only as good as their booking and in these early days of Early Access, everything outside the ring is far too bare.

Fire Pro Wrestling World slams into early access

Slam your body down and wind it all around as Fire Pro Wrestling World [official site] is now in early access. The long-running series is making its Windows debut and we can pay to get in before the event even starts, watching digital venue staff tidy up code and lay out chairs for sprites. Fire Pro might not have the big brand and 3D-o-vision of 2K’s WWE games but it does offer serious wrestlebiffs – and players are already creating and sharing big-name wrestlers through its fab editor anyway. Fire Pro Wrestling World chokeslamming PC this summer

It’s no secret that one favourite activity in the RPS treehouse is chokeslamming and powerbombing each other. I’m delighted, then, to see Spike Chunsoft announce a revival of the long-running Fire Pro Wrestling series – and this time on PC too. I’ve not played its console iterations but I have heard good things about proper, serious wrestling simulation and welcome more of that. Wrestling on PC is dominated by 2K’s so-so WWE games so, even if the new Fire Pro Wrestling World [official site] is unattractive (and it is!), it’d be nice to have a serious competitor for the belt.
